As AADC President, the connections I have made during my leadership and involvement in AADC programs, events and initiatives have enriched me, above and beyond. I am proud to lead at this critical time as we move Forward Together. The AADC has so much to offer as we celebrate nearly 100 years of providing educational, social and leadership opportunities that connect and advance Douglass alumnae! As we have said, “We are students for four years, but alumnae forever.” Together, we encourage and support one another. Together, we will capitalize on 95 years of successfully empowering women by continuing to promote and develop alumnae connections and women leaders. The holistic, personal and leadership education that began at alma mater should be a life-long pursuit. The AADC allows for our diverse alumnae to remain connected while learning through all stages of life. We call this connection our Sisterhood. With more than 37,000 alumnae, the AADC represents the vast and rich expertise of our alumnae sisters and friends. Each alumna’s personal and professional growth strengthens our association as a whole. This year, we celebrate the 95th Anniversary of the alumnae association’s founding by sharpening our focus and creating dynamic new initiatives to serve and connect alumnae and friends. Look for these initiatives: The Women’s Life-Long Learning Initiative - This suite of educational opportunities was developed for alumnae at every stage of life. The second year of both the AADC Mabel’s Alumnae Mentoring Program and the Victoria Dabrowski Schmidt ’42 Workplace and Professional Development Symposium have been held. We also welcomed Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and author Nicholas Kristoff for this year’s L’Hommedius Lecture, which was inspiting. Next, the AADC will implement workshops and lectures so that alumnae will continue the personal and professional development started during our college years while engaging with other smart and savvy Douglass alumnae. Possible topics are: changing careers; women’s health and wellness; negotiating compensation; dealing with work-life balance; preparing for retirement and other subjects relevant to women’s personal and professional development. While we will predominately host these on-site in New Jersey, we also seek to utilize the expertise of alumnae in other regions and live stream whenever possible to alumnae sisters and friends near and far. Special Anniversary Initiatives - During our anniversary year of 2017/18, every AADC program and initiative will be bigger, bolder and branded. We will also disseminate the 95th anniversary themes and graphics that herald our AADC pride at all events and in all publications. We will plan and execute the AADC 95th Anniversary Weekend Celebration and Alumnae Reunion Weekend, April 19-21, 2018, which includes our AADC Forward Together Gala: From Our Founding Into Our Future, on Saturday, April 21, at New Brunswick’s Heldrich Hotel, which will honor the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs GFWC, founders of NJC/Douglass. Awarding of Alumnae Fellowships - Currently, 22 fellowships are available for graduating seniors and alumnae who are seeking an advanced degree. With the growing and competitive market place, a post-baccalaureate degree is becoming essential in many fields. • As AADC President, the connections I have made during my leadership and involvement in AADC programs, events and initiatives have enriched me, above and beyond. I am proud to lead at this critical time as we move Forward Together.

The AADC has so much to offer as we celebrate nearly 100 years of providing educational, social and leadership opportunities that connect and advance Douglass alumnae! As we have said, “We are students for four years, but alumnae forever.”

Together, we encourage and support one another.

Look for these initiatives:

The Women’s Life-Long Learning Initiative - This suite of educational opportunities was developed for alumnae at every stage of life.

We will plan and execute the AADC 95th Anniversary Weekend Celebration and Alumnae Reunion Weekend,

April 19-21, 2018, which includes our AADC Forward Together Gala: From Our Founding Into Our Future, on Saturday, April 21, at New Brunswick’s Heldrich Hotel, which will honor the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs GFWC, founders of NJC/Douglass.

Awarding of Alumnae Fellowships - Currently, 22 fellowships are available for graduating seniors and alumnae who are seeking an advanced degree. With the growing and competitive market place, a post-baccalaureate degree is becoming essential in many fields.

Join us in moving Forward Together - It is not like a Douglass Alumna to rest or slow down, even at 95! The 95th anniversary year is the right time to connect or reconnect and to spur even greater success for your alumnae association and our alumnae sisterhood. Be a part of the celebration. Thank you to all those who made a commitment to inspire another 95 years of impact during the AADC’s 95 hours for 95 Years appeal. We are thrilled to have received $70,571.62 from 154 alumnae and friends! Your contributions will continue the 95-year legacy of educating, empowering, and engaging all alumnae.

A special thank you to our dollar-matching challengers Tina Gordon ‘72 and Marilyn Marolda Steiner ‘65 who inspired others to give through their generosity and leadership. We thank Jennifer O’Neill ‘95 for her generosity in offering a challenge to the class of 1995 and for her support to the future of our alumnae association.

Our goal was surpassed because of your dedication to advancing our sister alumnae and staying connected to one another. Thank you for your passion and generosity.

The AADC is committed to providing programs and initiatives that allow alumnae to achieve their ambitions and continue a lifelong journey of learning and connecting to sister alumnae. Your unrestricted gifts allow the AADC the

flexibility to seize unique opportunities which empower and strengthen our sisterhood, to direct support to alumnae initiatives that are of the greatest priority, and to support the general operations which allow us to be a best-in-class alumnae organization.

Class of 1965 Inducted into the Vanguard Fifty Societyat Alumnae Reunion Weekend 2015

Congratulations to our 2017 AADC Alumnae Awards recipients for their outstanding service and contributions to the AADC. The Vanguard Service Award was presented to Victoria Dabrowski Schmidt ’42 at the Reunion Vanguard Luncheon on June 2; the Margaret T. Corwin Award will be presented to Debbie Lynch ’79 at Fall Alumnae Council on November 11; Alumnae Recognition Awards were presented to Mary Elizabeth Neary ’71 and Elena Anastasiou Rossi ’78 at Reunion Convocation on June 3, and to Donna Coulson ’77 at the Victoria Dabrowski Schmidt ’42 Workplace and Professional Development Symposium on September 16; the Young Alumnae Mabel Award was presented to Heather Tedesco ’12 at Reunion Convocation.

AADC Medals were presented to Valerie L. Anderson ’81, Jennifer C. Bender ’93, Jeanne M. Fox ’75, Helen M. Galt ’69 and M. Wilma Harris ’66 at Reunion Convocation. Special thanks to the AADC Awards Committee members and Chair Isabel Goll Drzewiecki ’61 for their work.

Alumnae Honoredwith 2017 AADCAlumnae AwardsWe are pleased to announce that the proposed amended AADC bylaws have

been approved by an overwhelming majority of the more than 560 votes cast by eligible voters. Therefore, the revised bylaws will go into effect on November 1, 2017.

These changes are being made partly as a result of the Agreement we signed with the Rutgers parties in July, 2016, that defines our role in serving alumnae going forward. Changes were also made to clarify many governance aspects of our organization and, in fact, were in the works prior to the mediation/negotiation with the University.

Our revised mission statement now accurately depicts the AADC’s primary areas of focus and will help us achieve our goal to be a best-in-class alumnae

organization that is alumnae-created, alumnae-led, alumnae-driven and alumnae-supported. To read the revised bylaws, please visit our website at: www.douglassalumnae.org/about/bylaws.

We thank AADC Vice President of Administration Helen Galt ’69 and her entire Bylaws Committee for more than two years of diligent work on this initiative. Also, thanks to those of you who reviewed the new Bylaws and returned your ballot. With your continued support, we will proceed FORWARD TOGETHER to an exciting future for the AADC. Please help us to celebrate the 95th anniversary of our vibrant community at our Forward Together Gala: From Our Founding Into Our Future on April 21, 2018, held during our Alumnae Reunion Weekend, from April 19 - 21.

Rosalie B. Cooper ’52 earned a Bachelor’s Degree from NJC, followed by a Masters of Laws (LLM) in 1953 and a Juris Doctor Degree (JD) in 1954, both from Rutgers Law

School. She was the only female student in her law school class where she served on the Law Review and graduated first in her class. She was

the first female to serve as an associate attorney at any large NJ law firm, joining the McCarter & English law firm in 1953. In spite of a serious disability that left her confined to a wheelchair for the last 36 years of her life, Rosalie became the first female Assistant Prosecutor and then the first female Superior Court Judge in Ocean County. For her career achievements and her devotion to Douglass alumnae, she was honored by the AADC by being selected to the Douglass Society (now the AADC Society of Excellence) in 1994.

Upon her passing in 2011, her husband, Dwight N. Halpern, M.D., generously created a fellowship in her memory. The Honorable Rosalie B. Cooper ’52 Fellowship provides

tuition assistance to a deserving Douglass alumna attending law school. Through this impactful support, five deserving young women have been able to follow in Rosalie’s esteemed footsteps in the legal field. Dr. Halpern also planned for a generous increase to the Fellowship to be provided by a charitable foundation established in his Will. Therefore, upon his passing last fall, an additional generous grant was received for the Fellowship.

Judge Cooper’s passion for the law and belief in the power of our alumnae sisterhood live on through the Fellowship, assisting future generations of Douglass alumnae to achieve their own “firsts” as attorneys and Jurists.

Create a Lasting LegacyThe Honorable Rosalie B. Cooper ’52 Fellowship“Judge Rosalie B. Cooper was the most courageous, determined, indomitable woman I have ever known.

She trail blazed for women. She treasured her love for family and law and excelled in both.” Dwight N. Halpern M.D.

WHAT IS THE AADC ANNUAL APPEAL?The AADC Annual Appeal is a yearly fundraising effort, which runs throughout the fiscal year from July 1 to June 30. Supporting the AADC is a long-standing tradition for alumnae. When the AADC was founded by the first graduation class of 1922, alumnae were asked to pledge a penny a day. This evolved to what now exists as the AADC Annual Appeal. The Annual Appeal is not on behalf of NJC, DRC, Douglass or Rutgers. The Annual Appeal is on behalf of the AADC and supports the educational, social, and leadership opportunities that connect and advance Douglass alumnae.

HOW CAN I JOIN THE AADC ON GIVING TUESDAY?All alumnae and friends, including class officers, board members and leaders, are asked to participate as AADC ambassadors. Alumnae and friends will kick-off Giving Tuesday during Fall Alumnae Council by: Y Making your Giving Tuesday gift through

    our crowdfunding page together.douglassalumnae.org/givingtuesday

or mail your check made payable to “the AADC” (Associate Alumnae of Douglass College) on or before November 28.

Y Taking your unselfie with your reason for giving (see AADC unselfie handout)

Y Showing you are joining the AADC on Giving Tuesday by sharing on your personal social media your unselfie and tagging the alumnae sisters you are challenging!

WHAT IS GIVING TUESDAY?#Giving Tuesday is a national day of philanthropy on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving to kick-off the giving season. The AADC will launch its Giving Tuesday appeal at Fall Alumnae Council on Saturday, November 11, 2017 and will run until Giving Tuesday on

November 28, 2017. Alumnae and friends are asked to join the movement and show they are moving Forward Together with the AADC by making an unrestricted gift to the AADC Annual Appeal and advocating for the AADC to classmates, friends and family.

WHAT SHOULD I INCLUDE IN MY GIVING TUESDAY POSTS?Y Use the trending hashtags #GivingTuesday,

#AADCForwardTogether, and #unselfieY Tag the alumnae sisters and friends who

you are challengingY Include the link to our crowdfunding

    page together.douglassalumnae.org/givingtuesday

Y Download, pick up a copy or make your own unselfie sign which says: “This #GivingTuesday I am supporting the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College because __________.”
