In Galveston County, PWA Docket No. Texas 1968-R, Galveston Causeway, i t being considered desirable to increase the height of earth approach and to increase the amount of protective sodding, over that provided f o r under t h i s Docket, and to permit the construction of more adequate surfacing; and i t being brought to a t ten t ion tha t the grade r a i s ing operation w i l l i n t e r f e r e w i t h the performance of the ex is t ing contract quanti t ies of sodding and temporary pavement; i t is herehy authorized that an agreement be made providing f o r the removal of the items of sodding and temporary pvement from the ex i s t i ng contract, and i t is hereby ordered tha t the ra is ing of grade and construction of sodded slope protect ion be provided fo r as a separate pro jec t , and the sum of $59,121.70 i s appropriated f o r said purpose, and tha t the sums i n the amount o f $20,850.00 now appropriated under th i s Docket fo r the items of sodding and temporary pavement be transferred i n conformance w i t h PWA requirements f rom the Special Account f o r the Galveston Causeway (J-206) to the State Highway Fund, and that proper surfacing of t h i s Docket and i t s necessary connections be provided when and as soon as the above work w i l l permit.

WHEREAS, P.W.A. and W.P.A. funds are avai lable f o r such work; and

WHEREAS, State funds previously appropriated have a l l been ex­pended and addi t ional funds w i l l be required to operate the p ro jec t ;

IT IS THEREFORE ordered by the Commission that an addi t ional 5,000.00 State funds be appropriated to supplement P.W.A. and W.P.A.

This work i s t o be done under the d i rec t supervision of the State Highway Engineer wi th Maintenance Forces.

I n Grayson County, i t i s ordered by the Commission that an appro­p r i a t ion of $2,002.00 be and i s hereby made to cover the cost of remov­ing the d i r t to clear the roadway and ditches at points on U.S. Highway 82 between ^Herman and the Pannin County l i n e . This work i s necessary because of sl ides during the recent wet weather. This work i s to be done under the d i r e c t supervision of the State Highway Engineer wi th Mainte­nance Forces.

In Gregg County, i t i s ordered tha t a non-skid surfacing be plaoe on Highway No. 15 extending from the Harrison County l ine west approxi­mately 1.0 mi le , at an estimated cost of $1,800.00, to be contracted w i t h the adjoining section i n Harrison County previously approved as a part of the 1938 Asphalt Program.

In Hamilton County, i t i s ordered by the Commission that the 5.019 mile section of Highway No. 36 extending from a point 3.977 miles east of Hamilton to a point 8.996 miles east of Hamilton be taken over fo r Maintenance, inasmuch as a l l conditions imposed i n t h i s designation have been f u l f i l l e d .

I t i s f u r t h e r ordered that am appropriat ion of $878.32 be and i s hereby made t o cover the cost of maintenance on t h i s section f o r the balance of the f i s c a l year.

In Harris County, i t is ordered tha t Item 5, Div is ion 12, of the 1939 Regular Federal Aid Program providing f o r construction of grading, drainage structures and surfacing on Highway No. 19 a s needed t o connect the proposed grade separation at Spring be advanced to the 1938 Regular Federal Aid Program such that th i s work may be contracted wi th the pro­posed grade separation. The State Highway Engineer i s directed to sub­mit a request t o the Bureau of Public Roads providing f o r t h i s program modif i ca t ion .

In Harris County, i t i s ordered t h a t Item 6 Sheet 4 of the ap­proved 1938 Grade Crossing Program providing f o r the re locat ion of the M. P. Railroad between McCarty Avenue and Market Street Road i n Houston be withdrawn since i t now appears impossible to develop, and the State Highway Engineer i s directed to submit a request to the U. S. Bureau of Public Roads providing fo r th i s program withdrawal.

This payment is based on the State assuming 50% of the cost, due to excessive subsidence, between the actual cost to the Sub-contractor plus 15% and the uni t bid price by Contractor.

In Parker County, the State Highway Engineer i s directed to pre­pare plans and receive bids f o r the construction of grading and drainage structures and surfacing on Highway No.89 as needed to connect recent improvements w i t h Highway No. 1 at Weatherford, a distance of approxi­mately 0.3 mi le . I t i s ordered tha t an appropriation of $17,000.00 or so much thereof as may be necessary be made at such time as the contract cost becomes known.

In Wood County, on Highway No. 42, U. S. 69, i t is ordered that plans be prepared and bids be requested f o r the construction of grading and drainage structures and surfacing extending from the Rains County l i n e v ia Alba to a point at or near the in tersect ion of the present road i n the east section o f Alba at a t o t a l estimated cost of $18,000.

This order is conditioned upon the county fu rn i sh ing necessary r ight-of-way on a locat ion approved by the State Highway Engineer.

IT IS ORDERED BY THE COMMISSION that an appropriation of $8,500.Op be and i s hereby made to pay the costs o f operating Information Off ices at Pecos, Farwell , Texline, Shamrock, Wichita Fa l l s , Gainesvil le , Denison, Paris, Marshall and Orange from June 1 to September 1, 1938, and the costs of continuous operation of Information Off ices at El Paso, Texarkanlk, and Laredo. This appropriation i s to supplement present available funds.

I t i s ordered by the Commission tha t $24,508.33 be appropriated to cover the cost of paint ing 1097 miles of highways selected i n Divisions 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21 and 22 which on e i ther part or most of t h e i r length are carrying more than 1,500 vehicles per day. This work i s to be advertised and done by contract method in accordance wi th approved plans and spec i f ica t ions .
