Philosophy & Why ELTHAMELTHAM College is at the forefront of schooling innovation and academic success. We are very highly regarded and amongst the educational leaders in Australia.

“This final year of school I discovered myself and finally found out the things I am really interested in. I realised that it is such a good feeling to be hardworking, to chase my own dreams and create my own future. This year I became more independent and confident.”- QIAN Xiao Yun (Sherry)

We make a commitment to release and enhance the talents of every young person in our learning community. Our priorities are to ensure that students achieve their academic and personal potential and graduate from ELTHAM with the skills to succeed at university and the wider world. ELTHAM College is a place where differences are celebrated and global citizenship is valued.

Philosophy Why ELTHAM?

ELTHAM College is one of Australia’s most experienced international student educators. Our core business is education and being the best at providing a fully rounded education for young people is our main purpose. We strive to enable our students to become active, socially aware and successful people in the world. ELTHAM College has not only offered a successful International Program for over 20

years but continues to foster important global connections, with sister schools located in China, France and Indonesia. In addition to this we have established strong exchange programs in Japan and England and contribute to ongoing community projects in Guatemala. The main College campus boasts a well equipped library, science laboratories and numerous sporting facilities.

Our educators take an active interest in the academic progress of their students while also providing excellent pastoral care, where the emotional and physical needs of every student is given equal consideration.

Middle Years Program

Year 9 Program

Personalised learning is key to the program, with a focus on getting to know each young person and developing ‘how to learn’ abilities. Middle Years students follow a comprehensive core skills curriculum, and tailored Learning Modules, combined with a Community Program, which fosters emotional and social development. All of these elements combine to ensure that each young person at ELTHAM has the opportunity to explore and enhance their talents.

Because the learning experiences in the Middle Years are designed to offer choices and opportunities, young people are able to make decisions about their own learning and pursue their interests. This promotes a belief in themselves and their abilities. By encouraging our students to strive for their personal best, we promote persistence and risk-taking. Young people finish the Middle Years curious about the world, passionate to learn and full of courage to try new things and strive for what they want.

ELTHAM College’s unique Year 9 program is academically challenging as well as personally motivating. Four days a week are spent at our Melbourne CBD city campus where young people undertake in-depth projects in addition to their core skills curriculum. One day a week is spent at the Research Campus participating in specialist subjects and sport. This program has been designed to respond to the learning and social needs of young people at a time when they are navigating their way towards adulthood.

The development of life-long learning skills and relationships are at the centre of the Year 9 program, with teachers providing a secure, caring and supportive environment in which students can grow and learn. Students finish Year 9 with the ability to make informed choices and seek support when it’s needed. They can negotiate and manage their own learning while developing relationships that enhance their lives.

Middle Years 5–8 and Year 9International students can get an early start to a successful Australian education by enrolling in our Middle and Year 9 programs. Our small international student numbers in these year levels result in total integration in local school activities and programs.

“City campus was a fun and exciting adventure. I enjoyed the different challenges, gained strong friendships and developed academic skills.”- HU Jing Chao (Wendy)

“The past four years at ELTHAM have been a great personal journey of self development and improvement from which I have emerged, feeling more mature and ready to take on the challenging ‘real world’ that awaits me.”- SIM Wei Jiat (Jiat)
