Afterschool Clubs & Activities Session 2

9 January—9 March

Confirmation of club/activity enrollment will be posted

outside the Administration Office starting next Wednesday

for all grades.

2012/2013 School Calendar

Thank you to all of the parents and faculty/staff

who provided feedback via our school calendar

surveys. The 2012/2013 school calendar is attached to

this newsletter.

With many different nationalities and cultures

represented at CIS, an effort has been made to set

dates on the calendar within our school parameters and

in accordance with feedback received. It is hoped that

this school calendar provides the best possible arrange-

ments for the general school community. This

calendar lists only major dates and does not list the

many activities and events that will be held during the

year.

Here’s how we arrived at setting various dates on

the calendar:

The calendar reflects August 27th as the first day

of school for Kindergarten through Grade 12,

which was the preference of most parents.

The majority of parents and staff preferred the

earlier break in October.

More people favored a longer holiday break in De-

cember/January. School will resume on January 7,

2013.

The majority of feedback from both surveys indi-

cated satisfaction for a student break from 11-15

February 2013, thus allowing for a two-day facul-

ty/staff in-service session on February 11th &

12th, and a full week off for students.

The calendar has been posted on our website (along

with this year’s calendar) at the following link: http://

www.caymaninternationalschool.org/page.cfm?p=354.

Thank you again for your feedback.

CIS Community News

T h e C I S G i v i n g T r e e Did you know that the Giving Tree has been a part of holidays at CIS since 2007? We encourage all of our families to participate in this wonderful school tradition designed to help teach children about caring for others in the community. We have about 50 tags left and don’t wish to leave any child without a gift, so please visit the office to get yours soon! Don’t forget to:

Select a tag from the tree in the office (each has a number and tells the gender and age of the child who needs a gift.)

Look up the number in the binder on Ms. Simoni’s desk to see if the child has any particular desires or needs.

Wrap your purchased gift, attach the identification tag, and deliver it to school. Let Ms. Simoni know that you’re ready to place your gift under the tree so she can

register the gift and complete the process. Gifts will be presented to a representative of the Department of Children & Family Services at our winter musical performance on December 13th. If you’ve already taken a tag, but did not register it at the time, please contact Ms. Simoni as soon as possible!

J I N G L E M I N G L E Thank You!

The CIS PTA are touched by the generosity, creativity and support of the parents, teachers and students in our community. Despite the busy week and other weekend commitments, we had an amazing turnout at the Jingle Mingle and it was a very fun afternoon! Thank you for making and bidding on the incredible wreaths, the time and effort put into preparing and running all of the booths, baking treats, decorating the ARC, gathering food donations, for all the wonderful ideas, and most of all, for coming together to help the Jingle Mingle come to life!! An event like this cannot be pulled off without a great TEAM effort, and we are so very pleased that the first-ever JINGLE MINGLE was such a wonderful success. The winners of the Holiday Hunch were: Connor M. (Kinder), Gemma T. (Grade 4), and Katie K. (Grade 7). CIS received a very special letter this week which we have attached to this newsletter. Please read it to your child! Warmest Wishes for a fun-filled holiday season!

Sincerely, Wendy, Mary Ellen,

Julie and Sonia

CIS Staff at the Cayman Islands Marathon

Congratulations to the inspirational staff members who finished the Cayman Islands Half Mar-athon last Sunday! Well done!

CIS ½ Marathon

Runners: Megan K., Katie K., Anna K., Troy B.,

Gene W., Don C., & Leigh T.

Thank you to the wonderful staff members who volunteered to man a water stop on the marathon course. You Rock!

CIS Water Stop

Volunteers: Kristina Z.,

Megan I., Nimmi S., Susan O., Ashley F.,

Tuesday M., and Molly D.

First Graders Donate to Humane Society

Austin Z. and Alessandra C. recently celebrated their 7

th birthday together. They asked all of their guests to

donate to the Cayman Islands Humane Society in lieu of gifts for themselves. With the help of their friends, they raised US$620 in cash and an estimated US$600 in much needed food, treats and toys for all of the dogs and cats that are anxiously awaiting adoption.

WAY TO GO AUSTIN & ALESSANDRA!

Following five PWC Junior Tennis Tournaments held in 2011,

the top 8 seeded players in each age division were invited to the

Master’s Tournament held on December 2 & 3. Reese H. (Grade

6), pictured with Coach Tamer, finished the tournament in 2nd

place for the 11 and Under age group.

Kabir C. (Grade 6), Sunya C. (Grade 7), and Arin B. (Grade

7) also played in the tournament.

Congratulations to these CIS tennis players!

The 25 Days of Christmas Victoria B. CIS Grade 11 student, is organizing her annual toy drive called

“The 25 Days of Christmas.” Very generous people all over the island and from vari-

ous companies donate these gifts. For children at the George Town Hospital Pediat-

ric Ward and these referred to the Children & Family Services Dept. New items may

be given to children of any age (gifts for teens are greatly appre-

ciated as many buy for younger kids). Restaurant gift vouchers

for a family meal on Christmas would be greatly appreciated and

make an amazing gift!

If you’re interested in supporting Victoria’s toy drive,

please contact her at [email protected].
