What is movie maker? 1. Windows Movie Maker is a program which lets you create your own movies using

photos and videos that you collect.

Windows Movie Maker is very easy to use and has a lot of really nice features that allow us to produce pretty high quality movies.

How to open movie maker To open movie maker and start a brand new project:

1. Click Start. 2. Type Movie Maker into the search box. 3. Click Movie Maker.

How to save your movie maker projects To save your movies just:

1. Click the Movie Maker button.

2. Click Save project as.

3. Point your movie into your movie

folder.

4. Give the movie a descriptive name.

5. Click Save.

How to open your movie maker projects To open saved movies just:

1. Open your Movie folder.

2. Find the movie project you want

to open.

3. Right click the file and then select

Open.

How to add text screens to your movie Adding text to your movie is important. Text screens allow you to introduce aspects of the movie to your viewer.

1. Click Home.

2. Click Title.

3. Type the scene’s text into the

text box.

4. Edit the text using the Font

formatting options.

5. Backgrounds colours for the scene can also be selected from menu.

6. Check the preview of your

scene’s text in the preview window by clicking the play button.

How to add images to your movie Images can be used when introducing characters into your movie. For example: I am going to introduce my first guitarist with his photograph.

1. Click Home.

2. Click Add videos and photos.

3. Browse to your movie folder

where the image is stored.

4. Click the image.

5. Click Open.

How to add video to your movie Videos can bring your movie to life and should be considered as the most important part of your movie. Without video, your movie isn’t really a movie!

1. Click Home.

2. Click Add videos and photos. 3. Browse to your movie folder

where the video is stored.

4. Click the video.

5. Click Open.

6. The video will appear on your movie’s timeline.

7. Check the preview of your video

in the preview window by clicking the play button.

Editing your movie’s video Videos can be edited in terms of length, speed, fading, volume etc. 1. Double click the video to access the Edit menu. 2. I have chosen to fade my video in and out at a medium speed.

3. I can also alter the volume of the

video and change the speed in which is plays on the same menu.

4. The Trim tool allows you to crop your video by setting start and end points. Decreasing the number of seconds for the end point will shorten the length of the video.

How to add effects to images and video in your movie You can change how your movie looks by adding some pre-built effects onto your scenes. Done properly, this can make your movie look really professional.

1. Click the image/video scene you

want to add the effect to.

2. Click Visual Effects.

3. Select your effect from the list of options.

4. I chose the black and white effect which has the following influence upon my

image:

How to add effects to text in your movie You can also add effects to text-based scenes which will change the way your scene’s words appear on the screen.

1. Double Click the text you want to

add an effect to.

2. Select your effect from the list of

options.

NOTE: Effects can be applied to video scenes in the same way.

How to add transitions between your movie’s scenes Transitions are used to change the way scenes move from one to the next. For example: you can fade scenes into each other.

1. Click the scene you want to add

the transition to.

2. Click Animations.

3. Select your transition from the

list of options. 4. I chose the Shatter-in transition which has the following influence upon my image

scene:

How to add sound to your movie Sound is often used in movies to set a scene or to provide some sort of a backing track. For example: scary movies use creepy sounds to make the viewer’s feel scared.

1. Click Home.

2. Click Add music. 3. Browse to your movie folder

where the sound is stored.

4. Click the sound.

5. Click Open.

6. The green sound bar will appear on your movie’s timeline.

Editing your movie’s sound At this point, you need to decide if the sound will play for the whole duration of the movie or if you want to stop it at a certain point.

In my movie, I want the sound to stop playing just before my video so that my audience can hear the guitarist in the video play.

1. Double click the green sound bar. 2. Set your sound to end exactly where you want it to

(mine needs to end at 19.50 seconds).

3. You can also make the sound fade

in and out and alter the volume. (I chose my sound to fade out at a slow speed).

How to publish your movie When your movie is completed, you will need to publish it. This means to save it in a form that will play in some sort of media player and not just open in Movie Maker.

1. Click the Movie Maker button.

2. Click Save movie.

3. Click Recommended for this

project.

4. Point the movie into your Movie

Making folder.

5. Give the movie a sensible name.

6. Click Save. 7. The movie will begin to convert

to a video file. You will need to be patient and let it finish.

8. Open the movie making folder

where you saved the video. Open the video and check that it plays.
