story; a story entitled, “Christmas.”

© 2002 Willow Creek Community Church. Written by Aaron Reynolds Edited and Directed by Ingrid DeSanctis

A CHRISTMAS TALE SCENE ONE: THE OPENING (Orchestra plays. The music is festive and inviting. One by one the players enter from various places: upstage center behind the curtain, stage left, stage right and spread out as the song builds. LEADING PLAYER is the first to enter and to sing.) (The PLAYERS’ dress is from an undetermined period, theatrical, yet simple. But they are clearly Players, a group of storytellers, a troupe of sorts. They join into the song as it goes on.) Have We Got A Story For You Written by Greg Ferguson and Aaron Reynolds Orchestral Arrangement by Tom Vitacco Vocal Arrangement by Greg Ferguson © 2002 Ever Devoted Music (admin. by Willow Creek Association) All Rights Reserved. Used By Permission.

LEADING PLAYER: (Crossing down center, sung) here’s a tale we’re here to tell. PLAYER FOUR: Perk up your ears and listen well (Entering from stage right, singing) PLAYER ONE: Have we got a story for you! PLAYER ONE, LEADING PLAYER, and PLAYER FIVE: Have we got a story for you! (Entering from upstage and singing.) LEADING PLAYER: The weather outside it may be frightful PLAYER ELEVEN: But seeing you here is so delightful PLAYER SIX: Anticipation in your eyes PLAYER TEN: Wondering if you’ll be surprised (The PLAYERS continue to enter from the different areas of the stage into their specific position for the start of the show.) PLAYER ELEVEN: Have we got a story for you! ALL PLAYERS: Have we got a story for you! ALL PLAYERS: It may be on your mind PLAYER SEVEN: (Echo) May be on your mind ALL PLAYERS: Cause it’s that time of year PLAYER THREE, PLAYER SIX, and PLAYER TWELVE: It’s that time of year ALL PLAYERS: But the story you expect PLAYER THREE, PLAYER SIX, PLAYER TWELVE: Story you expect

A Christmas Tale

2

PLAYER ELEVEN: May not be the one you ALL PLAYERS: hear. (PLAYERS move together in a clump center stage on the following lines.) PLAYER TWELVE: Have we got a story for you! PLAYER ELEVEN: Have we got a story for you! PLAYER SIX: Have we got a story for you! PLAYER EIGHT: Have we got a story for you! PLAYER NINE: Have we got a story for you! ALL PLAYERS: Have we got a story for you! (PLAYERS spread out from the clump to the original position following the line … for you!). ALL PLAYERS: We got a story ---------------------for you! (The PLAYERS are all on stage, twelve in all. The LEADING PLAYER comes down center, through the players. Music underscores as the speaking begins. There is a strong feeling of ensemble and connection with the PLAYERS; they have done this many times together...) LEADING PLAYER: The place: PLAYER ONE: Here.

LEADING PLAYER: The Time: PLAYER ONE: Now. LEADING PLAYER: And so it is that both you and we are here, and both you and we

are here……now. PLAYER EIGHT: Such a meeting cannot be coincidence. LEADING PLAYER: It just so happens that we are tellers of tales. PLAYER THREE: With a story to be told. LEADING PLAYER: And it would seem that all of you have ears. (PLAYER ONE crosses to the leading player.) PLAYER ONE: Yes, they do. (PLAYER ONE returns to his position.)
