So, why is a website important? Simply put, you wouldn’t open a store and not advertise, would you? The same answer applies to Internet marketing. In order to get your name and brand noticed, you have to advertise. A website is important, and having a website will help you do just that. As you probably know, there are many ways to advertise your online business. Regardless of what technique you use, in every case, you want your reader to end up at your site to buy something, right? Building a website site is fun and exciting, in my opinion. It’s a chance to make your point, show your wares, meet people (blog), let folks know that your place is the place to meet their needs, brand your business, and establish your site as legitimate according to the search engines. Simply building a site without optimizing it won’t do much for your search engine rankings, however. Using the many effective SEO (search engine optimization) strategies to help make your site visible to the search engines will dramatically help your cause, for sure. Learning SEO strategies isn’t difficult, but the techniques do vary from time to time. In fact, you will no doubt come across so called “gurus” who say they have this SEO thing down pat and are willing to sell you their e-book with all of the information you need. You can spend a lot of money on this stuff, or you can learn SEO from people who stand nothing to gain except the satisfaction of helping you. The fact that SEO is stressed so much should signal to you that a website is important! One area in website building that I will touch on here is the inclusion of graphics. As they say, “a picture is worth a thousand words,” is especially true with your website. Try to make sure that all of your graphics are related to the topic of your site. If it were dieting, then an image of a slimmed down individual would be proper. If it were about health, an image of a healthy person would be good. You get the idea. The placement of the image is also important. Google says that having your image in the upper left quadrant of a page is the best placement to have the image noticed. Don’t let that limit you, however. You can place the images in any place you feel is appropriate and fits nicely on your page. Also, be careful about limiting the size of your images because if your page loads slowly due to the heavy resource demand of the graphics, readers will get frustrated and click away. Adding proper and persuasive graphics is just another reason why a website is important. Just like graphics are used in paper advertising, so to should they be used in Internet marketing. I think I’ve made my point about graphics. The last item I’d like to stress is the content in your site. You will hear that “content is king,” over and over when it comes to SEO for websites. That is the truest statement I’ve heard in a while! You see, Google, Bing, Yahoo, and every other search engine in existence will rate your site based on its content more than anything else. Yes, this includes graphics and text, together. I realize that this sounds like a lot to do and still make a site that you can be proud of, and most importantly, one that makes money. I happen to be a member of a community that teaches all of things I’ve talked about today including today's topic. The great thing is that no one in the community professes to be a “guru!” In other words, you will find in this community like-minded individuals who are all trying to make a living online, and they are willing to help you, as am I. If you are involved in Internet marketing in even the smallest way, you are hindering your success if you do not have a website.
