Analytic platform is supported by complete source of data – which acts as an umbrella cover for the ongoing SAP integration
• Providing a complete subject area of
content ahead of the SAP integration
allows the analysis and reporting to
begin delivering wins sooner and
faster.
• Enabling the platform for future
analysis early on developers
supporting adopters and fends off the
challengers
• Providing a single source of complete
data builds trust and buys time for SAP

It is an emotional challenge to understand the predicted outcome of a technology implementation and impact to SOP’s and end-user groups
• Managing expectations and the challenges of user adoption can be overwhelming
• Stage 1: Is that all there is?
– The problem of finding all the data in the right place during the critical research and analysis moments
• Financial analysis by accounting and FP&A teams require access to complete P&L and BS information, not to mention Capital, Assets, Supply Chain, etc.
• Constantly changing business requirements due to re-alignment cause the need for flexible information structures
• Who controls the business hierarchies and how are they kept up-to-date
• Stage 2: How did we get like this?
– The problem of deep insight into the business changes that drive the infrastructure and systems into their current state
• Mergers, Acquisitions, Divestitures, Corporate re-alignment and new business units create constant changing reporting requirements. The environment to support this is not prepared for flexibility
• Custom view are built on desktops to support and manage the business; backward comparisons are constant challenge and thus heavily labor intensive
• Is there every going to be single hierarchy ?
• Stage 3: Is there any way forward ?
– The challenge of keeping a positive perspective while all around there are changes
• A single ERP; a single reporting platform; the promise of faster access to content; requirements from the complete finance audience, plus supply chain, pro services, capital management, real estate, etc
• How can the progress be communicated; what is the right message; does everyone understand the technology enough to discuss the new data structures
• Where are the hierarchies managed now? Are they in sync with the reportable data?
• Stage 4: Can you hear me now ?
– The noise factor increases as discussions of a solution seems to offer signs of interest in user groups
• Recent wins lead to early adoption
• Challenge with IT on full-force ahead

Early benefits were greatly received increasing demand exponentially, thus governance became critical.
• Concurrent activities • SAP convergence – ongoing and delays
• Hyperion transition out of favor bus used in corporate
reporting
• Internal organization realignment (several levels)
• New business alignment and expansion
• Integration with Wireless
• Support for Corporate Performance Management –
becoming foundation data source
• Organizational Change • Introducing a consolidated platform of finance data
(replacing the many pieces)
• Integrating critical business hierarchies (removing
custom versions)
• Managing business unit reporting cycles – into a single
system
• Excel to Advanced Analytics • Dependent upon Hyperion and Excel for basic reporting
• Department based analysis, not common hierarchy
based
• Challenged by understanding of analytic tool capability
and fit to desktop tasks
• 2500+ users • 8 ledgers • Worldwide • Multi-year transition • 10 key hierarchy areas • Ranges 150,000 – 70 • Multi-sourced MDM

Ongoing rollout provides continuous adoption and fundamental change
• Self Service Reporting • Heavy desktop procedures for finance accounting and FP&A
• Plenty of alternate hierarchies– customized without regard to standard
• Out of sync reconciliations to corporate consolidation
• BI center of Excellence • Various groups providing user support
• Various security models
• Various sources of data
• Various platforms for reporting
• Limited standards on BW – no standards for Business Objects
• Fostered desktop processes and data dumps
• Leftover culture from mergers / acquisitions
• Most concerned about data wrapped up in: “make it do what my Excel does”
