Found A New International Version Study Bible in an attractive leather zipped case with a tapestry inset. The case is lined with maroon velvet fabric. This Bible is printed in 1993. It has lost its front cover but the back cover is blue. It is quite a large Bible, about 23cm by 15cm, a little smaller than an A4 page.

There is a list of names and detailed notes on the Gospel of Mark written inside on pages which seem to be intended for study notes. The Bible was found at Avalon Primary School so might belong to a retired Catechist. It might have been at Avalon for some time. So far eorts have failed to locate the owner.I would very much like to reunite this bible with its owner as it has clearly been much used, so if you own it or have any clue about its ownership, please contact me on 99733349 or the Parish Oce at 9157 0999. Fr Bronek has asked that all those who minister communion to the sick – either in hospitals, nursing homes or private homes, or if you accompany Father to the Nursing Homes, to attend a meeting. Please note this is DIFFERENT to the meeting that all Senior Servers, Ministers of Communion at Masses and Readers have been invited to, so if you are involved in one of those ministries as well, then we ask that you please attend this training also. There will be two sessions oered. You only need to attend one of them. If you require transportation to Mona Vale to be able to attend this meeting, please let the oce know so that we can organise this for you.

Would you please be kind enough to let the oce know which session you will be attending. Tuesday 26 February at Sacred Heart Church at 6.30pm orThursday 28 February at Sacred Heart Church at 10am. Thank you once again for your commitment to our parish ministries.

Listening and Dialogue EncounterWelcome to the Plenary Council’s rst stage of preparation – Listening and Dialogue. This rst stage of preparation will continue until Ash Wednesday 2019.

Together, we are on a journey of listening to God by listening to one another. All people are invited to engage in Listening and Dialogue Encounters – which are an open and inclusive experience of listening, dialogue and discernment about the future of the Catholic Church in Australia.

The Listening and Dialogue Encounter is an opportunity to get together a group of friends, family or colleagues and spend some time thinking and talking about your experiences of faith, life and the Church. Everyone is invited to respond to the question:

What do you think God is asking of us in Australia at this time?Everyone’s experience of faith and the Church is unique and it is important that the Plenary Council hear responses from as many people as possible.

• Reect on the question in silence. • Write a list of all the responses to this question that come to mind. • Share aloud with each other all of the responses you have written down. • Working together, choose one topic from your responses to focus on for Step 3.

You can repeat Step 3 for each topic on your list of responses over time. You may want to get together again to continue to talk with one another using these steps. REFLECT What have I experienced in this area? In silence, reect on your personal experience of faith, life and the Church related to the topic area you have chosen to dialogue about. You may want to write your thoughts down, or simply sit quietly with your thoughts.

SHARE AND LISTEN Tell a story of my experience in this area. Take turns to share aloud with each other your personal experience of faith, life and the Church. When others are speaking, remember to listen with an open and humble heart.

Our stories of our experiences of faith and the Church...

REFLECT How has another perspective inuenced my own? After each person has shared, in silence, reect on how stories shared by other people have inuenced your own perspective. You may want to write your thoughts down, or simply sit quietly with your thoughts.

SHARE How has another perspective inuenced my own? Show that you have listened deeply and openly to each other. Some phrases you may nd helpful are: ‘I feel your sharing has helped me to...’ or ‘From what you have shared with me, I now understand...

PRAY At the end of your rst dialogue and listening encounter, you are invited to pray together. You can use the words below, or you might like to say a prayer of gratitude in your own words. Creator God, we thank you for the encounter with one another today. We know that where two or three are gathered, you are in our midst. Thank you for being with us and for the courage to speak boldly and with passion, and the humility to listen with open hearts. We ask you to continue to walk with us, as we discover the pathway toward the future you are calling us to. Amen.

RESPOND Your voice is important to shaping the future of the Church. Next week, we will as a parish, have the opportunity during Mass to write and enter your submission to the Plenary Council, to SHARE OUR STORY and SHAPE THE FUTURE. There is a box at the back of Church to submit your lled cards from this week.

Have Your Say, PICK UP ONE OF OUR CARDS from the back of CHURCH.The three questions for your submission are: 1. What do you think God is asking of us in Australia at this time? 2. What questions do you have about the future of the Church for the Plenary Council to consider in 2020? 3. Do you have a story of your experience of faith, or the Church you would like to share?

The Living Word First Reading Jer 17:5-8A reading from the prophet JeremiahA curse on those who trust in humanity; a blessing on those who trust in the Lord.

The Lord says this:‘A curse on the man who puts his trust in man,who relies on things of flesh, whose heart turns from the Lord.He is like dry scrub in the wastelands:if good comes, he has no eyes for it,he settles in the parched places of the wilderness,a salt land, uninhabited.‘A blessing on the man who puts his trust in the Lord, with the Lord for his hope.He is like a tree by the watersidethat thrusts its roots to the stream:when the heat comes it feels no alarm, its foliage stays green;it has no worries in a year of drought, and never ceases to bear fruit.’

The word of the Lord

Responsorial Psalm Ps 1:1-4. R. Ps 39:5

(R.) Happy are they who hope in the Lord. Happy indeed is the manwho follows not the counsel of the wicked;nor lingers in the way of sinnersnor sits in the company of scorners, but whose delight is the law of the Lordand who ponders his law day and night. (R)

He is like a tree that is plantedbeside the flowing waters, that yields its fruit in due seasonand whose leaves shall never fade;and all that he does shall prosper. (R)

All earth’s kings shall thank youwhen they hear the words of your mouth. They shall sing of the Lord’s ways;‘How great is the glory of the Lord!’ (R)

Not so are the wicked, not so!For they like winnowed chaffshall be driven away by the wind. For the Lord guards the way of the justbut the way of the wicked leads to doom. (R)

Second Reading 1 Cor 15:12, 16-20A reading from the first letter of St Paul to the CorinthiansIf Christ is not raised from the dead, your faith is in vain.

If Christ raised from the dead is what has been preached, how can some of you be saying that there is no resurrection of the dead? For if the dead are not raised, Christ has not been raised, and if Christ has not been raised, you are still in your sins. And what is more serious, all who have died in Christ have perished. If our hope in Christ has been for this life only, we are the most unfortunate of all people. But Christ has in fact been raised from the dead, the first-fruits of all who have

fallen asleep.

The word of the Lord

Gospel Acclamation Lk 6:23

Alleluia, alleluia! Rejoice and be glad;your reward is great in heaven.Alleluia!

Gospel Lk 6:17. 20-26A reading from the holy Gospel according to LukeHappy are the poor. Woe to the rich!

Jesus came down with the Twelve and stopped at a piece of level ground where there was a large gathering of his disciples with a great crowd of people from all parts of Judaea and from Jerusalem and from the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon who had come to hear him and to be cured of their diseases. Then fixing his eyes on his disciples he said:‘How happy are you who are poor: yours is the kingdom of God.Happy you who are hungry now: you shall be satisfied.Happy you who weep now: you shall laugh.

‘Happy are you when people hate you, drive you out, abuse you, denounce your name as criminal, on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice when that day comes and dance for joy, for then your reward will be great in heaven. This was the way their ancestors treated the prophets.‘But alas for you who are rich: you are having your consolation now.Alas for you who have your fill now: you shall go hungry.Alas for you who laugh now: you shall mourn and weep.

‘Alas for you when the world speaks well of you! This was the way their ancestors treated the false prophets.’

The Gospel of the Lord

Reflection

Paul teaches us that, united to Christ through faith and in baptism, we are united in his death and resurrection. With Christ we die to sin; with him we rise to a new life. We cannot wait to see proof of our transformation before we change our actions. The proof is in the lives we live in faith. To deny that we have died and been raised is to deny the resurrection of Christ. Paul insists that they cannot be separated. The challenge is to live in and out of this faith. Both Jeremiah and Jesus introduce us to such a way of living. It is a way of paradox, a way that moves us beyond the self-centred standards of the world. The poor, the hungry, those who weep, and those who are persecuted are really the ones who are blessed. The victims of our social and economic systems, those who have been ravaged by war or have been made vulnerable by life itself are the ones who, if they place their trust in God,

will be blessed in the end. They may appear to be the outcasts of this world, but, if they are filled with faith, they will inherit heaven. The wealth of this world and its pleasures are not the blessings that we might think they are. They can blind us to the real values of life and prevent us from dying to the world and living resurrected lives in Christ.
