Spool PinsYour l)esigner 11 has two spool pins, a mainspool pin and an auxilary spool pin. The spoolpins are suitable for all types of thread. Placethe thread spool on the spool pin SC) that thethread reels counter-clockwise.

Main Spool Pin

The main spoo1 pin is adjustable and can heused in a horizontal position (the thread reelsoff the stationary spool) or in a vertical position(the thread spool rotates). There are two spoolholders on the spool pin, one large (a) and onesmall (h) Depending on what thread spool sizeor which spool pin position you are using, thespool holders are used differently. Use the horizontal position for normal threads and the vertical position for large spools or threads withspecial characteristics.

Horizontal PositionWhen using the pin in horizontal position andwith narrow thread spools, place the large spoolholder (a) under the thread spool. The smallholder (h) is placed in front of the thread spool.

If you use large thread spools, place the smallspool holder (b) under the thread spool and thelarge holder (a) in front of it.

The flat side of the spool holder shall be pressedfirmly against the spool. There shall be no spacebetween spool holder and thread spool.

Vertical Positionlb use the spool pin in its vertical position. foldthe spool pin out towards you. Slide Ofl thelarge spool holder and place a felt pad underthe thread spool. This is to prevent the threadfrom reeling off too fast.

Auxilary Spool PinThe auxilary spool pin is used when winding abobbin from a second spool of thread or for asecond spool when sewing with a twin needle.

When using the auxilary spool pin, place thelarge spool holder (a) and a felt pad under thethread spool.

Use only the originalIlusqvarna Viking green bobbins.Only use a metal presser foot when bobbinwinding from the needle. To wind, follow the instructions for “Bobbinwinding”. The difference is that the thread isbrought up from the needle, under the presserfoot and to the right over thread guide (d).Note: We do not recommend winding specialtythreads such as invisible or other streichy threadsthrough the needle. lnsiead see “Bobbin Winding”.

Placing the Bobbin in the Machine1. Remove the bobbin cover by sliding it

Presser Foot CThis is the buttonhole foot and it has guide linesto determine buttonhole length. The middle markgives a 916’ (15 mm) buttoning edge. The twotunnels on the bottom of the foot feed smoothlyand straight over the buttonhole columns.

Presser Foot DThis foot is used foi blind hem stitches, The inneredge of this foot guides the fabric. The bottom ofthe foot is designed to ride along the hem edge.

Presser Foot EThis is the zipper foot and can be snapped on either to the right or to the left of the needle. Thismakes it easy to sew on both sides of the zipper.

Presser Foot HJ’his foot with a teflon coating underneath, isused when sewing foam, plastic, or leather, minimizing the risk of these materials sticking tothe foot.

Presser Foot J‘lhis foot is used for overcasting, seam and overcasting, i.e. stitches which have a stitch width of5.0 and 5.5 mm. Stitches form over the pin whichprevents puckering at the edge of the fabric

Presser Foot RThis foot is used for free motion embroidery.decorative sewing and embroidery.

Repeat this technique on a Stretch medium fabric. The Sewing Advisor selects a flatlock stitch.Follow other recommendations given on theTouch Screen.

Fold a hem to the wrong side and stitch withflatlock stitch on the right side. Trim away excess fabric.

Use this technique for belt loops too.

When sewing over seams in extra heavyfabric or a blue jeans hem, the foot can

tip as the machine climbs over the seam. Theneedle can hit the tipped foot and break. In thiscase, use the button reed to balance the heightof the hem as you sew.

Place it behind the foot as you approach thehem and in front of the foot as you sew overthe hem thickness. Remove the button reedbefore sewing in to it.
