ADULTS SEEKING WEIGHT LOSS

Nutrition's Role in Weight Management:
Literature Review• Address the problem. The overweight and obesity epidemic is in dire need of being addressed; people need our help.
• Tailored treatment. This epidemic is complex and treatment should therefore be tailored to the individual’s particular situation.
• Elements for long-term success. Treatment should involve attention to behavior change, diet and exercise. These elements are key to weight loss and long-term weight maintenance.
• Educate. Providing clients with a skill set and teaching them how to set small, attainable goals is essential to improving overall health in the long-term.
• Bottom line. The environment we live in does not make it easy to lose weight or maintain a healthy, desirable weight. It is up to the Registered Dietitian, in conjunction with other medical professionals, to assist people in making healthy lifestyle changes.
Goal
To provide adults seeking weight loss or weight maintenance,
and increased fitness, with basic nutrition education to achieve these goals.
Central to this project is a three-part workshop series focused on the importance of nutrition to overall health. This workshop will
provide participants with lifelong skills to maintain a healthy diet and a holistic approach to weight management.
1. Participants will demonstrate an understanding of the important role that nutrition plays in weight management.
2. Participants will be able to set and implement three personal goals for improving current dietary practices and evaluate these goals four weeks after their implementation.
3. Participants will become knowledgeable about specific resources they can use to help guide them through their weight management journey. This includes an
understanding of the role of the Registered Dietitian and how participants can find a dietitian to help them support their goals.
Objectives
About Pil-oga-robic (& Additional Information)
Target Audience Adult members of Pil-oga-robic
(the majority of whom are female) with an
average age in the mid-thirties looking to lose weight or maintain a healthful
weight status.
• A pilates, yoga, cardio, and strength training-based studio located in NE Portland.
• The owners and employees emphasize a “lifestyle change” approach to weight loss and maintenance for their members.
This free 3-part workshop series is centered on the role that nutrition
plays in ahealthy lifestyle and will be offered to
all current patrons of POR but restricted to the first 15 people who
sign up. Ideally, the same participants will be signed up for each workshop,
but it is not a requirement for participation.
Pil-oga-robic
Core Components1. A perceived threat to health (susceptibility and severity);2. An expectation that taking part in certain behaviors will result in
beneficial outcomes;3. The self-confidence that one has in his or her ability to execute the
behaviors necessary to bring about such outcomes.
Based on my knowledge of andfamiliarity with POR and its clients, lectures
will be planned and delivered on the assumption that those attending the free
workshop series are doing so because they believe that the nutrition information
they will glean from the series will both educate
and prepare them for bringing about the aforementioned outcomes of
overall better health.
