The Gospel scene depicting Jesus and his disciples on a boat seems appropriate for the summer. It is a season to contemplate nature and to find God in the wonders of His creation. It is also a time to contemplate, as stewards of the Lord’s abundant gifts, all of creation as God’s gift and that ultimately it is God who has control over the world and not us. A Stewardship Moment

Un Momento de Corresponsabilidad

En la lectura del Evangelio de hoy es-

cuchamos a Jesús ordenar al viento y al

mar estar en paz, quedar en calma. La escena del Evangelio presen-

tando a Jesús y a sus discípulos en un bote, parece propia del tiempo

de verano. Es una estación para contemplar la naturaleza y encontrar

a Dios en las maravillas de Su creación. Es también un tiempo para

contemplar, como corresponsables de los abundantes dones del

Señor, toda la creación como un don de Dios, y que finalmente, es

Dios quien tiene control sobre el mundo y no nosotros.

Santa no es, para un católico, un viaje de turismo, sino una peregri-nación. Es decir es una ocasión ex-cepcionalmente provechosa para tener una experiencia de Jesús y de su obra salvadora. Nuestra pe-regrinación a Tierra Santa debe ser hecha con espíritu de oración: no se trata solo de “ver,” de oír explicaciones, de fotografiar, sino de “escuchar” los susurros silencio-sos de los lugares en los que co-

bran nueva vida las palabras inspi-radas por el Espíritu Santo, como ocurre con las Sagradas Escrituras. Cada lugar es propicio para hacer-se una pregunta: ¿Qué me dice es-ta lugar?

Llegaremos a Tel Aviv, iremos al Monte Carmelo Santuario de la Virgen del Car-men. Seguiremos nuestro peregrinaje hasta llegar a Nazaret. Estaremos en la Basílica de la Anunciación donde tendre-mos la Santa Misa. Medjugorje—Durante casi 30 anos

en Medjugorje, una ciudad de Bos-nia-Herzegovina, seis videntes afir-man que la Santísima Virgen, la “Gospa,” se les aparece todos los días.

La Virgen María en Medjugorje parece pedir a los peregrinos que la visitan, que lleven a sus comunidades y parroquias de origen, la importancia de lo que allí han visto y aprendido: la oración y de la Adoración Eucarística, de la lectura de la Palabra de Dios, de la confesión y del ayuno.

San Juan Bautista Juan Bautista aparece en los evangelios de Mateo, Marcos y Lucas. Toda su in-fancia es un misterio hasta el año 27 de nuestra era, en el que empieza a predi-car y bautizar. Nació seis meses antes de Jesucristo.

De la infancia de San Juan nada sabe-

mos. Tal vez, siendo aún un muchacho y huérfano de padres, huyó al desierto lleno del Espíritu de Dios porque el con-tacto con la naturaleza le acercaba más a Dios. Vivió toda su juventud dedicado nada más a la penitencia y a la oración. Como vestido sólo llevaba una piel de camello, y como alimento, aquello que la Providencia pusiera a su alcance: frutas silvestres, raíces, y principalmente lan-gostas y miel silvestre. Solamente le pre-ocupaba el Reino de Dios.

Era un hombre fuerte que se alimentaba de langostas, miel silvestre y vestía una piel de camello. Lucas dice de él que vivió en el desierto hasta el día de su manifestación a Israel.

La realidad es que bautizaba en la región del Jordán con el fin de limpiar los pecados de los que acudían a él. También bautizó a Jesús y lo reconoció como Mesías, cuando el Espíritu Santo descendió sobre él.

Fue quién denunció la unión incestuosa de Herodes Antipas con su sobrina Herodías, mujer de su hermano. Esto causó gran odio y Salomé, hija de Herodías, a instancias de su madre, so-licitó la cabeza de Juan tras haber bailado ante el rey. Herodes le mandó ejecutar en la prisión de Maqueronte, a orillas del Mar Muerto. Después su ca-beza fue ofrecida a Salomé en una bandeja de plata.

A mediados del siglo IV el sepulcro de San Juan Bautista era venerado cerca de Naplusaen Samaria. Fue profanado en tiempos del emperador juliano (361), pero San Jerónimo atestigua la persis-tencia del culto del Precursor en aquel lugar, siendo eri-gida allí mismo una basílica en el siglo VI. Su festividad se celebra el 24 de junio, este es el único santo al cual se le celebra la fiesta el día de su nacimiento.

Dios, nuestro Padre, por la interce-sión de San Jose, padre adoptivo de Jesus, por favor, en tu sabiduría y amor, bendice a estos hombres, que que sean fortalecidos como padres catolicos.

Deje que el ejemplo de su fe y amor brille. Nos permite a siempre honrar ellos con un espíritu de pro-fundo respeto. Te lo pedimos por Cristo nuestro Señor. Amen.
