- General Education- Limited English Proficient (except LEP <1

Year English Version LAL)- Special Education (unless APA)- Retained Students

Limited English Proficient Students(Non-Spanish Speaking)

All LEP students must take the test, with ONE exception: LEP students taking English Version of test who have been in the US for less

than 1 year (enrolled after 7/1/09) are EXEMPT from LAL ONLY

LEP students who are exempt from LAL still have to take the Math (ASK 3-8) and Science (ASK 4, ASK 8).

You MUST provide one or more of the following accommodations:

– Additional time - 150% of the regular administration time.– Translate directions ONLY into the student’s native language. – Use of Word-for-Word BILINGUAL TRANSLATION Dictionary, preferably

one normally used by the student as part of the instructional program.

You MUST test LEP students in rooms SEPARATE from general education

students.

FORMER LEP students are NOT permitted LEP accommodations.

Translation of passages, items,

prompts, and tasks are NOT permitted.

Extra time is added to EACH individually timed

Modifications & accommodations (extra time, scribe, computer, etc.) must be included in Section 504 Plan.

4 Key Roles• School Test Coordinator – Provides oversight for the test

administration in school building

• Chief Examiner – Administers regular and make-up tests for assigned students

• Proctor – Assists the Chief Examiner in the administration of regular and make-up tests for assigned students

• Hall Monitor – Maintains the integrity of the physical environment near testing sites

EVERYONE involved in testing is

responsible for maintaining test security.

Test SecuritySecurity is the district and school’s responsibility.

NO district personnel may discuss, read or review the test booklets or student responses in the answer folders before, during, or after the test administration.

Absolutely NO copying of test booklet or other secure materials.

Security breaches may have:

– Financial consequences for the school,– Professional consequences for staff, and– Disciplinary consequences for students.

Chief Examiner Responsibilities• Receive student rosters, room and seating arrangements from

school test coordinator. • Count all test booklets received from the STC and verify the

sequence of test booklet numbers before signing the School Security Checklist.

• Ensure that all required test materials and supplies have been provided by STC.

 • Document attendance using student roster provided by STC.

• Alert STC to any corrections needed to the Pre-ID labels.

Proctor Responsibilities

• Ensure that the room is arranged appropriately for testing. Rooms set up for cooperative learning should be re-arranged before testing.

• Clear memories on calculators and remove instruction manuals if needed.

• Assist the Chief Examiner in distributing ancillary materials (NOT TEST BOOKLETS) such as pencils, sharpener, calculators, rulers, and erasers to students.

• Ensure that book bags are neither visible nor accessible to students during the test administration. Collect cell phones or other non-authorized electronic devices from students.

Hall Monitor Responsibilities• Assist the STC, if

Chief Examiner Responsibilities

• If necessary, direct students in gridding student information on answer folders.

• Distribute test booklets one by one to each student.

•  Maintain security during the test administration. Chief Examiners should be present in assigned rooms for the entirety of a test session.

• Enforce testing time requirements and clearly display the countdown of remaining testing time.

 

• Notify STC IMMEDIATELY of any missing test booklets and used answer folders, and keeps students in the testing room until the school coordinator releases students.

• Provide all applicable test modifications and accommodations.

Proctor Responsibilities

• Walk around the room when students are gridding Test Booklet Number and Form version information on Answer Folders to ensure data is correctly bubbled.

• Assist Chief Examiner in ensuring that each student receives only 1 test booklet.

 • Ensure that students break the seal only for the section that is

being administered.

• Answer student questions related to the test directions.

• Watch for students who might make extraneous marks or do figuring on the answer folders.

Chief Examiner & Proctor Responsibilities

• Ensure that students are working in the correct test booklet section and answer folder section by observing the symbols at the top of each test booklet and answer folder page.

 • Refrain from coaching or providing any assistance to students other

than the directions outlined in the Examiner Manual.

• Be positioned at different points in the room while the test is being administered.

Hall Monitor Responsibilities

• Ensure that halls outside of testing rooms remain quiet.

• Ensure that students and staff not involved in SPA or HSPA do not enter testing sites during the administration of the assessments.

• Escort students to restrooms throughout testing, including specified breaks.

• Provide temporary relief for proctors who escort students out of testing rooms for restroom breaks or emergencies.

Student Becomes Ill While Taking the Test

1. The examiner must contact the STC; the STC must contact the DTC. The DTC will contact all other necessary state and county representatives.

2. Transcribe work from the soiled answer folder to a new answer folder. - If the child is not going to complete the test section during make-up

testing, a V1 should be bubbled on the new booklet or answer folder. - If the child is going to continue during make-up testing, he/she will

continue in a new booklet or answer folder.

3. The soiled booklet must be placed in a plastic bag for security and health related purposes.

4. The STC must complete an Irregularity Report.

5. The STC and the DTC must make arrangements to destroy the soiled materials within 24 hours of the incident.

6. The Chief School Administrator, DTC, and STC must sign a statement of assurance on official school letterhead documenting the following: security/booklet number,

grade, subject, time and date of destruction of the soiled and/or biologically unsafe testing material(s).

VOID the section for that day with V2. If this happens during either section of LAL,

both sections are voided.

Replace booklet, mark broken booklet “Wrong Section Opened” and complete

Irregularity Report. Note both test booklet numbers. Return everything to

OPET.

Call OPET immediately. Allow no one to leave. Halt all testing and wait for

the County to arrive.

Chief Examiner Responsibilities• Collect all test booklets individually from students. Inspect test

booklets to ensure that all answer folders have been removed.

• Ensure that every student has gridded in grade, TB number and form on the answer folders.

 • Transcribe responses onto answer folders for students who require

this modification.

• Grid “Not Present Regular” on Answer Folders of students absent during regular test administration. Also, grid voids, if necessary.

• Return ALL testing materials, including student rosters and irregularity reports, to STC immediately after testing each morning. Test booklets must be returned in numerical order.

¨ ALWAYS assign seats and leave ample s[ace between students. No two students should be seated next to one another. Move chairs as deemed necessary.

¨ ALWAYS make sure that blackboard and bulletin boards contain NO RELATED INFORMATION.

¨ ALWAYS report promptly to your assigned test site.
