Waid Williams Running for City Council Good morning to the citizens of Shepherd Texas! My name is Waid Wlliams and I decided to run for the City of Shepherd City Council . I feel that the shepherd citizen’s taxes are not being utilized in the best interests of the citizens of Shepherd, TX. For instance, street and road repair, ditches and drainage, water and sewage. Economic development and new business opportunities, employment, future growth and diversity in city politics is the key to a good future. Look at our city’s population, 2500 almost 3000 with a 5 square mile city limit and the biggest Employer is the school district and following behind that is the county in general so that tell us our Tax base is low but the cost of living keeps going up and our citizens have to go to our neighbor cities Cleveland, Livingston or Humble for things like shopping, entertainment, or if they need to go to the hospital, or when it comes time for college. Myself, I am a family man. Father of two beautiful daughters, Kayla and Alexis and beautiful wife, Pamela, that I love Dearly with all of my heart. I, Waid Lee Williams, graduated from Shepherd I.S.D class of 1991 and I have lived in Shepherd, TX for 43 years. I served on the Shepherd Volunteer Fire Department and San Jacinto county Emergency Medical Services for 8 years and coming out of high school I worked at McClain's Food Market for 8 years until going through college. I am now employed with the Department of criminal justice as a Correctional Officer. I served on the City Council for 5 years and my accomplishments were to build a new community center for family and friends use and for Emergency use. An economic development center office that brings business to the area also the shepherd chamber of commerce and Shepherd Economic Development. My task is educating the public and cutting the political red tape that waste taxpayer time and money. My door is always open. People tend to ask me “why are you running for something that doesn’t pay?” and my reaction is always “this is my community. Where I work and live and it’s priceless to follow my dreams to a brighter future.” So please remember W. Williams when voting for Shepherd City Council this November.

Soon to be new Chamber member in Shepherd has a new Nail Tech in town! Not only that, the owner Staci has bought the tanning business, and combined the two so that you will be able to tan and have your nails done in the same place. "Beach Body Tanning and Nails" opened on November 1st. Located at 11231 Hwy 150 in Shepherd, this is in the small strip where Nancy 's Hair Salon and Blessed Health Assurance have their businesses. Jimmy Enlo has been a DJ at many local events in our county. The first time I saw him, he was the DJ for Shepherd Library 'Diva Night'. Well, Jimmy not only has all the equipment for his job and the flashing lights to go with it, he has gone high tech and created his own App. His mobile app can be found under "Enlo Entertainment" in the app store. Once you go there you can enter the date you want him for your event and see if he is available. You need to enter the kind of event you are having, wedding, birthday etc. You can then choose which package option you want and fill out the form which asks how many hours you will need him to play, where the event is located and Jimmy will give you a quote. You will have your instant quote delivered to you! If you want all the links for the various operating systems, go to his Facebook page. You can also call Jimmy at (281) 432-9136. Good work Jimmy! Do not forget to mark your calendar for the 20th Annual Town Lighting in Coldspring. Hosted by the San Jacinto Historical Society, this event is held in the Courthouse Square on Saturday November 26, at 6:00 p.m. Free Wassail will be available on the Square! Call Barbara at (936) 653-2332 for more information. It is difficult to believe that Christmas is only weeks away when we had such hot weather just a short while ago. One of Shepherd's newest members will have her ribbon cutting on November 15 at 6:00 p.m. 'Hair by Layla' at 11018 Hwy 150 has expanded into the front room of the building, which is more easily known as being next to City Hall. Layla Johnson offers her clients coffee and cookies and has redecorated the salon in a very attractive way. This is one of our younger members and it is so good to see such enthusiasm for her business and the talent to go with it. Be sure to call in at her ribbon cutting. You can make an appointment by calling Layla at (281) 761-8660 or text or message her on Facebook.
