    ABOUT IOC

    Indian Oil Corporation is an Indian public-sector petroleum company. It is India s largest commercial

    enterprise , ranking 105th on the Fortune Global 500listing (2009).The Indian O il Group of Companies owns and operates 10of India's 19 refineries with a combined refining capacity

    of 60.2 million metric tons per year.On 30 June 2009 Indian O il completed 50 years of itsexistence and a series of events are being planned tocelebrate its Golden Jubilee Year .

    WHAT HAPPENED?

    A fire broke out at Indian O ilCorporation L imiteds O il depotsituated in sitapura area of Jaipur On

    29-Oct-2009.Possible reasons as per near byfactories , hotels , residents was oilleakage.

    A bout 11 people lost their lives due to burns and asphyxia and more than 300 suffered injuries.

    IMPACT & ROLE OF MAHATMA

    GANDHI HOSPITALM .G. M emorial Hospital is locatedin the S itapura Industrial A rea.A round 50 victims of the blast andfire were admitted immediately.They divided the patients intothree categories

    1. M inor injured (70%)were sent totheir homes after the initial

    treatment known as Trias atR eception area.2. M ajorly injured(20%) were sent in

    Emergency care.3. Very Seriously injured(10%) were

    provided Intensive care.

    ROLE OF CHITRALA FIRE STATION

    y Chitrala fire station is situated around 2 km from the IOC . There are 4 vehicles in running condition. 1 lakh litre water supply is available and 50 thousand litre is available in reserve.

    y F irst information of the fire was given to this fire station at 7: 20 pm. A s soon as the information was received 1 driver and 2firemen immediately rushed to the IOC .

    y They informed that there was delay incommunication with the fire station and so they could not reach the spot on time and so faced problems in carrying out the

    rescue operation.

    y M r. Bodhi Lal Sharma , a local , is water supplierto various institutions and organizations like

    infosys lost his business of Rs. 30,000 till now. And is in a hope to get some govt.

    compensation.

    TEAMS FINDINGS

    M ost of organizations , factories not equipped with smoke detectors , fireextinguishers and other primary measures.

    M ost of shops are not Insured . But mostly had L ife Insurance. N o social communities present. N ot much administrative support given to residents.

    Lack of any effective plan or management.LEADERSHIP role was played by

    senior students in colleges.Health problems due to heavy smokeamong residents.

    OPTIMISTIC SUGGESTIONS

    Always be prepared.Formation of RESCUE AREAaround IMPACT AREA .O rganizations , I nstitutions ,factories etc. need to be properly

    equipped.

    M ock drills to be done at regular intervals.Education and Training regarding disaster management to be given to residents , institutions etc.E ffective local communities to be promoted.Shops must be Insured.R egular check and inspections of

    industries and

    other

    organizations.
