A Pilgrimage to the Holy LandWalking in the Footsteps of Jesus

Our Daily itineraryTUE, OCT 14, DAY 1: DEPART USA: We depart this morning from Miami en route to Newark, where we change planes and board our flight to Tel Aviv. On our overseas flight, complimentary meals and beverages served onboard.

WED, OCT 15, DAY 2: ARRIVE TEL AVIV / CAESAREA MARI-TIME / HAIFA / MT. CARMEL / NAZARETH: On arrival in Tel Aviv we are met by our guide who will accompany us throughout our journey. Boarding our awaiting motor coach, we make our way to Caesarea Maritime, where Peter came to understand that the Good News was not for Jews only, but for the whole world. Here he bap-tized the Roman Centurion, Cornelius, and his family. We continue on to Haifa for lunch at a local restaurant. Then we visit the Chapel of Stella Maris, where we celebrate the opening Mass of our pilgrimage. We continue on to our accommodations in Nazareth, where dinner awaits us at our accommodations. (L, D)

THU, OCT 16, DAY 3: NAZARETH: VISIT OF NAZARETH, AND EXCURSION TO SEPPHORIS & CANA: After a sleepover and a good breakfast, we gather at the Basilica of the Annunciation where we celebrate Mass, followed by a tour of the Basilica and other sites in the city, including Mary’s Well. We will have some time for lunch on our own.

After lunch time, we journey on to Cana, where Jesus performed His first miracle at the request of His mother (John 2:1-11). In Cana we will visit the Franciscan chapel where Jesus began His public ministry in the Gospel of St. John. Here we invite couples to renew the marriage vow. From here, we continue to Sepphoris, the home of Mary’s family, a Roman free city and the capital of Galilee during Jesus’ youth. We return to our accommodations for dinner and the evening. (B, D)

FRI, OCT 17, DAY 4: NAZARETH: SEA OF GALILEE, CAPER-NAUM & MT. OF BEATITUDES: This morning we make our way to Tiberias where for the whole day we’ll explore the sites related to

Jesus ministry with His disciples. We begin ascending by motor coach to the Mt. of Beatitudes to gain a panoramic vista of the Sea of Galilee. Here we take time to read and reflect on the Sermon on the Mount.

From there we make our way to Capernaum where Jesus began his Galilean ministry, visiting the synagogue which dates to the time of Jesus and the site of Peter’s home. We take some time to reflect on Jesus’ teachings and celebrate Mass here.

A short distance away is the site known as “Peter’s Primacy,” where after His resurrection Jesus met with his disciples and told Pe-ter: “feed my lambs; feed my sheep” (John 21:9). After our visit we board a boat for a reflective sailing on the Sea of Galilee, followed by some time for lunch on our own.

After lunch we visit a local museum housing a fishing boat dating from the time of Jesus. Next, we visit Tabgha where it is believed that Jesus fed the crowd of 5,000. We will stop at the Jordan River to recall how Jesus himself experienced the baptism of John at the beginning of His ministry. Here we will renew our own Baptismal commitment, through which we have become disciples of Jesus and sharers in His divine life and mission. We return to Nazareth for dinner and the eve-ning. (B, D)

SAT, OCT 18, DAY 5: NAZARETH / MT. TABOR / JERICHO / DEAD SEA / BETHLEHEM: Today after breakfast we depart for Je-rusalem where Jesus suffered, died and rose from the dead. But first we stop, as He did, on Mount Tabor, the site of the Transfiguration (Luke 9: 28-36). Our motor coach will park in the parking lot below where we will board taxis and make the winding ascent. The basilica here is an inspiring structure.

Then we head down the Jordan Valley to Jericho. We stop in Jeri-cho to visit the walls of the ancient city and recall the biblical story of Zaccheus and the sycamore tree. We celebrate Mass in a local church. Back on our motor coach, we make our way to the Dead Sea for an optional swim (bring your swimsuit and flip flops). Then we travel to our accommodations in Bethlehem where dinner awaits us. (B, D)

an invitatiOn tO JOin usDear Fellow Pilgrim:

The term “pilgrim” refers to a person on a journey in search of God. In a real sense, this can describe each of our journeys toward God as we live our lives through our daily experiences.

A Pilgrimage to the Holy Land is different. Since we are people of faith, we travel as pilgrims tracing the footsteps of Our Lord and walking in the footsteps of so many others who have gone before us in a journey of faith. During this pilgrimage to the Holy Land, we discover the roots of our faith as we see the sites, touch the stones, and pray the prayers which have helped form the faith we hold as sacred.

We would like to invite you to join us in this special pilgrimage to the Holy Land. We will visit Nazareth, walk the shores of the Sea of Galilee, and climb Mount Tabor where Our Lord was transfigured before His disciples. We will journey down the Jordan Valley and climb the mountain to Jerusalem. There we will visit and pray at the sites of His final days--the Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane. We will follow the Via Dolorosa (the Way of the Cross) and visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the site of both Calvary and the Tomb where He was buried and from which He rose from the dead.

The experience of the Holy Land is like no other in your life. At each location, we will read and reflect on the Gospels. You will never again see or hear these words of Scripture without vividly recalling the places where Jesus walked and taught.

Finally, know that pilgrimages are joyful experiences where not only do we spend time in prayer and reflection, but we also have fun as we experience each other as a Christian community, making friends that last a lifetime.

We want you to have the most meaningful and spiritual journey of faith possible, all within this spirit of joy, and so we strongly encourage you to join our pilgrimage by signing up as soon as possible for this special experience.Sincerely in Christ,

Rev. Yves Geffrard

SUN, OCT 19, DAY 6: BETHLEHEM: VISIT OF BETHLEHEM: After breakfast we travel to Shepherds’ Field, the traditional site where the shepherds’ minded their flocks on the night of Jesus’ birth. Here we celebrate Mass. Back on our motor coach, we make the short drive to Manger Square which stands in front of one of the oldest of Chris-tian churches, the Church of the Nativity. Bending low so as to enter through the Door of Humility, we enter the Church and descend into the Grotto of the Nativity. Beneath the Altar, a 14 pointed Silver Star marks the exact spot surrounded by the Latin inscription: HIC DE VIRGINE MARIA JESUS CHRISTUS NATUS (Here Jesus Christ was born to the Virgin Mary). We will have some time for lunch on our own.

We walk the short distance to the Milk Grotto (officially the “Grotto of the Lady Mary”). The Grotto, with a Franciscan chapel built above it, is considered sacred because tradition has it that the Holy Family took refuge here during the Slaughter of the Innocents, before their flight into Egypt. Tradition has it that while Mary was nursing Jesus here, a drop of milk fell to the ground, turning it white. We take time for souvenir shopping at a local Christian store, our effort to sup-port the Christian community in Bethlehem. Dinner is served at our accommodations. (B, D)

MON, OCT 20, DAY 7: JERUSALEM: MT. OF OLIVES, CAIA-PHAS’ HOUSE, UPPER ROOM, CHURCH OF DORMITION, PLUS GETHSEMANE EVENING PRAYER: This morning our bus takes us to the Mount of Olives, where we begin at the Pater Noster Shrine, commemorating the ‘Our Father’ in languages from around the world. We then walk down the Mount of Olives, stopping first at the beautiful little Church of Dominus Flevit (“The Lord wept”), commemorating how Jesus wept over Jerusalem prior to His death (Luke 19:41).

We come then, to the Garden of Gethsemane and the Basilica of the Agony, also known as Church of All Nations. We pause here to recall Christ’s agony (and will return here this evening for deeper reflection). We have some time for lunch on our own.

After lunch, we cross the Kidron Valley where Jesus was led up to the Palace of Caiaphas for His first interrogation by the High Priest. The site is known today as St. Peter in Galicantu (“crowing rooster”). Here we celebrate Mass. Then we make our way to Mt. Zion, where we visit the Upper Room, commemorating the Last Supper. Nearby we come to the Benedictine Church of the Dormition. Dinner is served at our accommodations in Bethlehem. (B, D)

TUE, OCT 21, DAY 8: JERUSALEM: VIA DOLOROSA & HOLY SEPULCHRE & LEISURE: We begin the morning early as we gather at the Antonia Palace to walk the Via Dolorosa, the Way of the Cross. We conclude the Way of the Cross at the site of Calvary for Mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. After Mass, we enjoy a late breakfast at a nearby restaurant. Then we enjoy a tour of the Church of Holy Sepulchre as explained by our guide.

This afternoon we visit the Western Wall of the ancient Temple destroyed in 70 AD. This is the most sacred place for Jews and a place of prayer. We view as well the Dome of the Rock, a sacred site for Muslims. We conclude at the Church of St. Anne and the nearby Pool of Bethesda where Jesus healed the paralytic man. We will then have time to walk in the Holy City and experience the culture of Old Je-rusalem at our leisure. Dinner tonight is at our accommodations in Bethlehem. (B, D)

WED, OCT 22, DAY 9: BETHLEHEM / EIN KAREM / EMMAUS – ABU GOSH / JOPPA / TEL AVIV: We take some time to rest and pack this morning. We then check out from our accommodations and travel to Ein Karem where we visit the Church of St. John the Baptist and the Church of the Visitation. Next we visit Emmaus-Abu Gosh to celebrate the Mass of the Resurrection. It was on the road to Emmaus that Jesus appeared to his disciples following his resurrection and re-vealed himself in the breaking of the bread (Luke 24:13-35). We will have time for lunch on our own.

Next, we make our way to Joppa, where Peter lodged with Simon the Tanner, and during his stay, raised Tabitha from the dead (Acts 9–10). In Joppa, Peter also received a vision that led him to respond to Cornelius’ invitation to come to Caesarea—the very vision which led to the decision to open Christianity to the

Gentiles. We enjoy dinner at a local restaurant before proceeding to the airport in Tel Aviv to check-in for our return flight to the USA. (B, D)

THU, OCT 23, DAY 10: ARRIVE IN THE USA: This morning we arrive in the USA, go through customs then board our continuing flight homeward, where we arrive filled with memories of our life-changing pilgrimage in the Holy Land.

Note: While no changes are anticipated, there may be unforeseen occa-sions when certain alterations become necessary to this itinerary, either due to changes in airline schedules or for other reasons.
