Historians:
A person who studies and
writes about the past.
Name one!!!!
Archaeologist:
A person who learns about
people in the past by looking
at fossils and artifacts
(old things)
Anthropologist:
A person who studies all
parts of human society
What is the difference between an
archeologists and anthropologists?
Dr Dig!
Technically, an anthropologist studies
all aspects of humanity - physical (or
biological), cultural, and
archaeological. The archaeologist has
a narrower field, and studies the past
by recovering and analyzing artifacts
and evidence of material culture.
There is a great deal of overlap
between the two disciplines.
Maybe a simpler answer would be good!
An archaeologist digs up and studies
man's past by examining the material
remains of his cultures and what he did,
while an anthropologist interprets these
findings to find out what he thought
and believed.
Maybe a simpler answer would be good!
They are sometimes closely
linked and can be blurred, but
the main difference is that the
archaeologist is concentrating
on the physical evidence, while
the anthropologist looks at the
same evidence to discover how
and why they believe whatever.
Artifact:
Items MADE by humans from
the past
EXAMPLES??
Fossils:
Preserved remains of
humans, plants, or other
items from the past
Examples??
How do you find these fossils and artifacts?
You dig them up!
What is another way
to say to dig up something
Excavate
Define: to dig up
Use it in a sentence
When I dig something up how do I know how
old it is?
You can date it!
You mean take it out for dinner and a
movie??
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
NO !
You can tell how old it is by saying
what year it was made!
Now you know how we study
social studies….but why should
we study it??
