A Note from Pastor Phillips:
Thank you for coming to worship with us today. If you are a first-time visitor, I would sure like the opportunity to meet you and welcome you personally. Because I believe in a Sovereign God, I don’t believe anything happens by chance. I believe you were brought here for a purpose. I would love to help you discover that purpose, and to see if there is any way we as a church can bless and minister to you and your family. Please stop by the Resource Center after the service so I can shake your hand. I’d sure count it a privilege.
Pastor Harold
Thank you for joining us today for worship. Your presence was a blessing.
If you are interested in learning about church membership, we have a “First Steps” class which meets in the Youth Center (Jr. Church area) at 9:00 a.m. each Sunday. It’s a great place to start!
If there is any way that our church can as-sist you or your family, please contact the office at 410-378-4476.
We pray that you have been blessed, and have found that coming to Pleasant View
Baptist Church is truly . . . like coming home.
Pleasant View Baptist Church is a smoke-free campus. We encourage you to re-frain from smoking while on the premis-es. If you must smoke while here, please do so in your car. If you have any ques-tions, please ask one of our Pastors.

We have another sweet sister in our midst who is battling breast cancer. Chrissy Barton has been a wonderful blessing to so many in our church, and we can not let her family bear this medical and financial burden alone. It’s difficult to come up with new ideas, but her sister, Angel, was inspired! “Catering for Chrissy” is an ongoing silent auction of sorts.
We will post sheets with available meals for bid on the hallway bulletin board. Bidders write their names next to the highest bid they are willing to pay for the meal, and the winner is contacted by the chef to set up a date & time for delivery. Each sheet will be posted for two Sundays.
Here are the meals you will be bidding on:
Chicken Fettuccini with Broccoli/Garlic Bread/Salad/Banana Cream Pie
Meatloaf/Mashed Potatoes/Green Beans/Rolls/Carrot Cake Chicken Salad/Rolls/Pasta Salad/Sweet Tea/Dessert Chicken-Cheese-Broccoli Casserole/Apple Cake Lasagna/Garlic Bread/Dessert Chicken Pot Pie/Salad/Dinner Rolls/Chocolate Chip Cookies Roast Chicken/Mashed Potatoes/Green Beans/Rolls/Dessert Country Ribs/Potatoes/Veggies/Salad/Rolls/Dessert Chicken Tetrazzini/Garlic Bread/Salad/Cheesecake or Apple

The price is 2/$3.00. ALL Proceeds go to helping Ellie! If you have questions, see Sung Hi Potter or Suky Crippen. It’s a delicious way to help a sister in need!
Whether you are preparing for your first semester of college, or returning for your senior year, and wheth-er you commute daily or attend a school hundreds of miles from home, you are encouraged to attend a special COLLEGE PREP session with Pastor Paul and Pastor Harold.
At 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, come to the Coffee Room for a discussion on holding on to and defending your faith in the midst of the special challenges encountered by college students.
Feel like you are already on solid ground? Come give your input on strategies that have worked for you.
Don’t miss it!

THANK YOU!
We would like to thank Susan Buck and the Adult Choir for coming to Calvert Manor Nursing Home to sing hymns around Daddy's bed. Daddy always loved and remembered the hymns. Words just cannot express the love and heartfelt grati-tude we have for each and every one of you. Thank you for taking time out of your day to come to sing for his funeral, we are so humbled by the love you all showed our family at such a difficult time.
Thank you to Denise Davis & Lucille Price along with both of their funeral food committees that provided the wonderful meal for the lunch after the funeral. We are so blessed to have such caring and loving people in our church. Thank you to Pleasant View Baptist Church for the beautiful plant and flowers, the special visits, and prayers. Thank you to our whole church family for all of the thoughtful cards, taking time to prepare food and bring to the house, prayers and loving us through this sad time. We are sad but we are also rejoicing because our husband, daddy and pop-pop is whole again in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Alzheimer's may have taken him from us here on this earth but it can no longer touch him in heaven. Praise The Lord!
All our love,
The family of Joseph Barker, Sr.
Peggy Barker, Ellen & Randy Johnson & family, Jackie & Bill Snyder & family and Joey & Marie Barker & family
LADIES’ BIBLE STUDY
A new study is beginning August 16 at Tracy Lander’s home (1420 Dr. Jack Road, Conowingo) on Tuesday afternoons at noon. They will be studying “Loving God With All Your Mind” by Elizabeth George. For more information, call Valerie Good-now at 443-206-0157 or Tracy Lander at 410-441-4191.
2 Cor 1:2. Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 3. Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4. Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
I would just like to thank each and every one of you.
I want to try to relate some of what God has done through this amaz-ing trial. I was very busy going full-time for my Medical Assistant Certificate at Cecil College, which I had started Jan. 11. I was doing very well with an A average in all classes. I knew I had some medical issues, especially pain, which had been left unpursued and undiag-nosed for a long time, primarily because I of extended periods of time when I had no insurance coverage. But, because I now qualified for Medicaid, I had just begun to try to rectify these medical issues. So I had only been in school 1 month and it came to a grinding halt when I was told I had cancer and would have to begin a chemo regimen. I did-n't and in many ways still don't understand what God's purpose is in this but I do know He has one and have witnessed the following:
I have witnessed the care of God through this season. Connections have been made, believers and non-believers have stepped forward to talk about faith, much prayer has gone up, and provisions of food, cards, flowers, emails and money have flowed in to me at a time I most need them. And we had a mini revival Sunday evening the 17th when many brothers and sisters gave me wonderful gifts of time & talent. I am reminded of the first church in Acts. I even experienced much improved health. No pain.
Non Believers who have seen and heard of this are witnesses to God's love and provision through His saints. Some of them have frequently and generously stepped forward to help me in many ways. I am sure God is nudging them, inviting them to come to His Way of doing things.
So whether this is just part of or all of God's purpose or not, is certain-ly a mystery yet to me, but miracles are still happening in God's world and I am grateful to Him and to His servants and servants yet to come. Praise God from whom all blessings come!
Love, Ellie Johnson
