Our Savior’s Lutheran Church West Bend, WI
Our Mission
We gather together to
explore and celebrate
the wonder of Christ,
equipping all to live a
God centered life.
A Note From Pastor Darin
Dear Friends,
There probably isn’t enough paper and ink to say “Thank You” to
everybody who needs thanking at Our Savior’s, but let’s give it a whirl.
With Holy Week and Easter Sunday I am grateful to our staff. Kelly
and Deacon Sherie worked diligently and creatively to set our
congregation up for powerful worship and wonderful celebration.
Thank you to our talented and hardworking musicians. They do more
than sing and play their instruments at worship. They prepare for
worship with many hours of practice each week; the results are
wonderful.
Thank you to everybody who gave their time to cook, to set up the
worship space and fellowship hall for Easter worship and Easter
breakfast. Thanks also to everyone who served at and cleaned up from
the breakfast.
I am grateful for ushers, communion assistants, and office volunteers
who help make worship happen week after week.
Thank you to you for your offerings – God turns them in to our varied
ministries.
All year long there are people who work behind the scenes so that we
may gather for worship and other events at Our Savior’s. From snow
removal and yard work, to setting up the altar (and even more than I am
naming here) there are many jobs and many people who do them!
Thank you to our Sunday School teachers and Journey guides who have
a hand in handing the faith down to our kids.
Of course, there are more people who step up when needs arise, often
going unnamed and unseen. For them I also give thanks.
All of these – all of you – are vital parts of our life and mission together
here at Our Savior’s. Thank You!

* Blue Lotus Farm & Retreat Center
* Volunteers appreciated for donations
of supplies, food & hands-on service
* All ages are welcome to join the day
as your schedule allows
Our sister relationship with Hephatha Lutheran Church enjoys its 12th
year. Come join the fun and meal to celebrate the completion of their
Instruments of Peace summer ministry program. Our fellowship makes
the day memorable for all who attend, both guests and helpers.
The day is set in God’s beautiful creation with a lot of action –
swimming, kayaking, paddle boating, fishing, bike riding and an
abundant picnic lunch.
This year we are making a few changes for donations. We will still need
baked beans, pasta and fruit salads.
Now we are requesting donations of gift cards from Aldi and Walmart to
purchase supplies, meat and other foods. Any amount is appreciated
and will help reduce costs to Our Savior’s.
We seek to be blessed and to bless in this special ministry together. For
more information, talk with David & Nancy or email them at

I am the vine,
Sunday School
you are the branches John 15:5
Our Sunday school year began Sunday, September 9 Jesus, the Vine helped
us become strong branches of faith. Jesus shows us and tells us how to be
loving, kind, patient and gentle as we love and care for our neighbors near and
far. As we heard our faith stories we discovered a little bit more of how we
are part of Jesus’ Story. As each day and year passes, our children as well as
you and I continue to grow in our faith. We thank you Jesus for families and
others who walk in faith with our children, enabling them to learn, love and
lend a hand in order to share your love with others.
Thank you Sunday School Disciples for your ministry!

2019 FE y ESPERANZA SCHOLARSHIP NEWS
The OSLC scholarship program for Fe y Esperanza continues to be strong and growing! Our visit with the
students and families in January was fun and energizing. We have students who have completed their basic
education, high school and higher education. We have nine new ones who are beginning in Kindergarten. Two of
these are children of the children we supported in the beginning. The cycle of life improvement continues.
Thanks be to God!
During one of the days at Fe we were able to get photos of the 2019 students. You may have seen their names and
faces on the El Salvador board in the narthex. We sure hope so. There are two photos of each student posted. We
ask you to find yours and take a photo. That way we know you have read this letter.
For those who would like to sponsor a new student, we ask you to take a photo and write your name on the back of
his or her name tag. This will enable us to track the students and the sponsors for more information to be shared.
The support amount for 2019 remains the same:
$150 for elementary grades K – 9
$300 for high school grades 10 – 12
$800 for university and the technical institute
$150 is a donation requested for the general fund for students without sponsors
A first support payment was sent to El Salvador in February; the second should be sent in
June so we are requesting donations soon.
Thank you to all who have already provided their support in early 2019.
Thank you in advance to those who will be making their donation before June 1.
We are grateful to each of you for keeping this ministry alive and active.
Please use the envelope provided on the 2019 board and also available in the office. Checks are made payable to
OSLC with Account 8007 on the memo line. Envelopes should be to the attention of Kelly in the church office.
For other information, contact David and Nancy at [email protected] or 339-0030
We know that education empowers change. It gives individuals, families and communities hope and opportunity
for a better future. Let’s make that change now for our brothers and sisters at Fe y Esperanza.
Sincerely, David y Nancy

JOURNEY MENTORS
The greatest influence in the lives of our children and youth growing in faith is
the role of their family, parents as well as extended family and friends. How-
ever as they grow from infant to preschoolers to middle schoolers many more
adults and youth enter their lives to help them know that Jesus’ forgiveness,
love mercy and grace is for them.
This year our Journey youth were guided by wonderful mentors as they contin-
ued to unwrap and live their faith through the power of the Holy Spirit given
to them in baptism. Through the practice of regular worship and yes sermon
notes, we are able to hear the promises of God anew and over time, allow
these promises to sink into our being, helping us to hear and live into the
promises of God and serving others. Thank you for your ministry!

Summer Fun with God! Sharing faith with your kids goes well beyond sitting quietly in a pew, listening to Pastor Darin or I preach. This summer
get creative in sharing God with your kiddos. Here are a few ideas that you can incorporate into your summer fun.
Make nature bracelets: wrap a piece of duct tape around your wrist with sticky side up. Take a walk around the
neighborhood and stick leaves, small pebbles, sticks and other treasures onto your bracelet. Talk about God as their
Creator - “Isn’t he awesome!”
Make a bird feeder with a pinecone rolled in peanut butter and bird seed. Hang in a tree and watch for birds. Read
Matthew 6:23 about the birds and how God gives us comfort and tells us not to worry. But when we worry we cam
share our worries with one another and we can pray together and ask God to comfort us.
Place painters tape on the carpet to make roads for your kids toy cars. Mention how God guides us when we call
upon him..
Go on a “Alphabet Tour” with a journal in hand. Head into town and walk around. Beginning with the letter A, find
something that starts with that letter (A=apples in the store). Then write it down and think God for it. Continue with
each letter and when you are done, each child has a creative alphabet memory book of God’s goodness.
Throw wet sponges into targets drawn on the driveway with chalk. Share how God has good plans for us and we
must aim high to be walking in his way. You know you’ll end up in a wet sponge fight so while you’re at it remember
you are baptized and belong to Jesus.
Trace your child using chalk as they lay on the sidewalk. Have them add their face, hair and clothes. Let them trace
you as well. Talk about how God made every part of us unique and special.
Build a tower out of cut-up sponges, blocks or empty boxes. Discuss how God likes to build us up in him and is with
us when we fall, covering us with grace and mercy.
Tape a paper towel roll to the wall to let your toddler drop little toys or dollar store pompoms through the shoot. Talk
about how we follow God and what God’s oath is for us.
Have a campout indoors. Make up songs about how God made the moon and the stars and loves for us to campout
with him. Sit outside at night and look at the stars.
Position some pencil erasers on the floor with a marble. It makes surprisingly addictive at-home bowling game. Share
how God loves for us to laugh and have fun.
Create a rope maze in the backyard. God has a plan for our lives and even when we get off the path, God is always
with us guiding us back.
Have a cupcake decorating contest. Bale some cupcakes and then set out all different colors of frosting, sprinkles and
other toppings. Pick a couple of people to be the judges and have fun! Quote Psalm 34:8 - “Oh taste and see that the
Lord is good.”
At the end of the day as you tuck your kiddos into bed say a prayer together and make the sign of the cross on their
forehead as you say Jesus loves you and so do I.
