GET VOCAL COUNTY CHOIR PRESENTS

wITH TENOR ANTHONY NORTON

22Nd JUNE 2013 TRAMwAY THEATRE, BLESSINGTON

GET VOCAL CHOIR

Get Vocal is a choral programme engaging older people in County Wicklow, forming a one county choir funded and supported by Wicklow County Arts Office.

‘Get Vocal’ offers active participation in a choral programme, which is based in several locations in County Wicklow namely Baltinglass, Greystones, Laragh and Tinahely. The four locations throughout the county offer access to as many participants as possible. These regional sections have come together as one county choir to perform tonight in the Tramway Theatre, Blessington.

The choral programme is designed to be fun and accessible and is now in its fourth year. We have over sixty registered participants under the tutelage of Musical Director Amy Ryan and supported by choral facilitators Bridget Kenny and Anthony Norton, both of whom have considerable choral conducting experience.

Get Vocal have performed in the Mermaid Theatre Bray, in Wicklow town as part of the Wicklow Arts Festival ‘Night of a Thousand Voices’, in Killruddery House, Bray as part of the Festival of Nostalgia and in the Bord Gais Theatre Dublin as part of the ‘Rain Falling Up’ performance with conductor Fergus Sheil and the RTE Symphony Orchestra.

A MESSAGE fROM ARTS OffICER JENNY SHERwIN

Wicklow County Arts Office is delighted to once again support and fund the Get Vocal Choral Programme. This programme was initiated by Wicklow County Arts Office and County Wicklow Older People’s Network for the Bealtaine Festival in 2010 to support singing as a means of enjoyment for people countywide. It has proved to be a very successful initiative with over sixty registered members this year, many of whom have been with us from 2010. Apart from the enjoyment of singing, our aim was to maximise the other benefits of choral participation - studies have shown that singing has positive effects on breathing, posture, relaxation, stress relief, physical activity and energy. Both the tutors and the participants have given their upmost in embracing this opportunity and making this a truly uplifting and rewarding experience. I hope you all enjoy tonight’s performance.
