ROSIE JAMISON,Executive Director

Hello fellow Chamber Members of theGreater Madison Area Chamber of Commerce.Recently, Rosie Jamison announced herresignation as our Executive Director. Onbehalf of the board and our members, wecertainly thank Rosie for her genuine interestin the community and visionary leadership.

Be assured your board has put together asearch committee for a new Executive Director. We have already hired two of our teammembers—Danielle Manthey, Office Manager, and Courtney Storm as our Communicationsand Committee Coordinator. This teamtogether with a new Chamber ExecutiveDirector will inherit a financially sound andvibrate Chamber. We are positioned tocontinue our GMACC Mission. “To promote ourmembers, the community, and economicdevelopment resulting in a better quality of life!”

Your Chamber membership has reached321 members as of December 31, 2016. Totalmembership income of $100,389. This is thefirst time membership achievement to be at orexceed six digits. With that said, I want tothank all our members for being part of thismilestone and Rosie’s leadership. They are somany positives regarding your Chamber, so itis only fitting during the close of this year toreflect on these accomplishments.

Accomplishments occur with the leadershipof our Chamber Staff, Committee Chairs andour members. If all of us engage ourselves, wewill continue to be financially sound andvibrate. Recently, I had an opportunity to visitwith one of our retailers, Dick Fawbush ofStan’s Men and Women’s Apparel. Some yearsago, Dick came up with the idea of ChamberBucks. He indicated being a member of the

Chamber and getting your name on thebusinesses accepting Chamber Bucks pays foryour Chamber dues alone. I certainly believethis.

Recently your Chamber ran a promotion of$10,000 in Chamber Holiday Bucks plus a$1,500 bonus for the holiday shop locallypromotion. This sold out in three and a halfdays! I was in the Chamber office when twoindividuals stopped in to inquire about thepromotion. One indicated how competitive ourMadison stores were. In fact, the personactually returned merchandize alreadypurchased in Sioux Falls due to a better deal inMadison! Also, she planned to buy $100 withthe added $15 Chamber promotion uponstopping in she decided instead to purchase$200 with $30 more in Chamber Bucks overallto shop locally. While Rosie and I werelistening to this customer, the other Madisonpatron said, “Well I will do the same!”

Stories like this is why your investmentand engagement as a member for a progressiveChamber is important for our collectivebenefit. Your Chamber will continue topromote and support you as members; plus, market our positive story for continuedbusiness progress in the community we live, work and do business.

I hope all of you had awonderful Holiday Seasonand found time to be withfamily and friends.

Your Chamber andcommunity!

One of the Chamber Leadership Madison communityservice groups kicked off the winter season by hosting a WinterCoat Drive. To come up with a project that would impact theMadison community, they visited with members of thecommunity and people with strong ties to Madison PublicSchools. They learned that there is a need for winter attire inour school youth and moved forward with a project that wouldkeep our school population warm, a Winter Coat Drive.

Coats were collected at five local businesses: Campbell'sSupply, Sunshine Foods, Shopko, The Community Center, andMadison Public Library. The collection began on November11th and ended on December 11th. Coats were picked up fromeach location weekly, laundered over the weekend, anddelivered to the appropriate schools at the beginning of thefollowing week. It was a successful endeavor, bringing in overnearly 100 coats the first week. Over 250 coats were donatedand given to Madison Central and St. John’s Lutheran Churchto meet the needs of students throughout our community. Many students received coats in early December as a benefit ofthe coat drive.

Since December 2015 a new welcome to Madisonsign has been in process due to a few interestedcommunity residents and employees working with theCity of Madison.

According to Camelyn Sims, Operations Managerof Bulldog Media Group (BMG), Inc; “Our employeegroup is active in the community and often looking forways we can help, improve, or make a difference.Redoing this sign was brought up a couple years ago.Given the look of the sign and its location, it wassomething we wanted to learn more about andproceed with updating, if possible.”

They brought the idea to the Madison Park andRec Committee and got approval on their plan.Employees went to work and collectively decided uponan image, shape and colors for the Welcome toMadison Sign.

Lucas Muller designed the billboard using images

and identifiers of Madison within it. The image wastransferred onto sign materials prepared by PowerPromotions. The City of Madison removed theprevious sign and erected the new sign provided bythe BMG employee foundation onto the currentstandards.

Bulldog Media Group Inc. Employee Foundationprovided a positive impact upon the Madisoncommunity through a Welcome to Madison sign at thecorner of Baughman/Belatti Park and the eastentrance to Madison on NE 3rd Street.

Drive by and look at the view of our communitythrough the eyes of several people that work and livein Madison.

Thank you to the Bulldog Media Group Inc.Employee Foundation for sharing their interests andresources to enhance our image and further promoteMadison!
