Did you know that Chicago and Casablanca are official Sister Cities? With that in mind, the Board of Direc- tors of Friends of Morocco cordially invite all FOM members and jnterested others to attend our second annual reunion, Ij- timaa '89. The a-athering will be held this year in Chicago all day Saturday, 11 November, at the Chicago Public Library Cultural Center, right downtown. Chicago to the screening of a custom-made videomontage, Made in the Maghreb, with clips from Hollywood feature films produced in Morocco. Short workshops, planned to be concrete working sessions in which you can actively participate, will be part of the day. Four workshops tentatively scheduled, based on input from members, are: The International Sister City Relationships; CrOBS- Cultural Marria.l'es . Keynote speaker Dr.GhuyJam Haider Aaai, a na-tive of Pakistan, is Chairof IsJamics and History ofReligions at the AmericanIsJamic College in Chicaa'Q.He earned a PhD in thesame field at TempleUniver8ity. Dr. Aasi alsoserves as Director of theIslamic Foundation in Il-linois, and as co-chair ofthe Conference for Im-prQved Muslim-ChristianRelations. He will speakon how FOM membersmight help raise awarenes-sand mutual understandin&,between Muslim and non-Muslim communities, andDr. Aasi will have plentyof time for questions anddiscussion.

Several of the participantsstayed at GeorgetownUniversity, but FOM mem-bers Polly Scoville andSusan Farrall hosted Taw-fiq and Hakim. Thanks toSusan, Hakim was able tomeet with many disabilityrigh ts activists, includingformer Press SecretaryJames Brady! Friends ofMorocco provided a rentedelectric-powered wheel-chair for Hakim so that hecould enjoy some of theaccessibility for which DCand its Metro system arefamous.

The Festival served as astarting point for VerySpecial Arts in Morocco.VSA plans to establish anon-profit organizationthere which would or-ganize activities for dis-abled artist includingtraining seminars and artexhibits.

We would like to take thisopportunity to thankSusan Farrall, PollyScoville, and Alex Mattson(our Very Special Artscontact person and a trueFriend of Morocco) for alltheir hard work andgenerous hospitality.They really came throughin a time of need ~ndtheir help was greatly ap-preciated.

Over 1000 former PeaceCorps Volunteers gatheredon 21-23 July, at Kent(Ohio) State University,including 20 MoroccoRPCV,s, for the annyalRPCV Conference.

Peace Corps' recently an-nounced invitation to workin Hungary, its delayedentry into China, legisla-tion promoting volun-teerism, American foreignpolicy, and 13 workshopscovering everything fromthe homeless here andoverseas, human rights,and the world's diminish-ing rain forests wereamong the highlights ofthe 10th Annual NationalConference of ReturnedPeace Corps Volunteers.The theme was InventingPeace: At Home and Over-seas.

Besides speeches, openforums, and workshops,the conference had acareer fair, an arts fes-tival, an international fair,reunions of many RPCVgroups, a lO-K Run forPeace, and a memorialmarch for PCVs who diedin service.

The Conference was co-sponsored by the NationalCouncil of Returned PeaceCorps Volunteers and theNortheast Ohio ReturnedVolunteer Association,along with Kent State andother RPCV groups in theOhio Valley. TheCleveland and GeorgeGund foundations helpedto underwrite the con-ference.

Next year's conference willbe at Eugene, Oregon.
