President’s Message
December, 2013
NY Conference
Season’s Greetings CASAMembers!
As the holiday season is quicklyapproaching, and in light of therecent tragic events in thePhilippines, and the multipletornados within the U.S., it isimportant for each of us to takethe time to reflect on howfortunate we are and topossibly consider how/what wecan do to help those directlyaffected by these disasters.
There were a number of specialCASA moments this past yearsuch as the Annual CASAConference in Niagara Falls, which for some of us includedstrolls over to the Canadianside, and a ride on the Maid ofthe Mist. September’s trainingmeeting had presentations fromDr. Powitz, Sheriff Andre-Jack,and Christine Testa that rangedfrom An Exercise in MustardGas, to Tools of Inspection, toEssential Sanitarian Credentials.Based on your evaluationsthese topics were well received.
The holiday meeting will onceagain showcase a line-up ofexceptional speakers andtopics.
I would like to thank all of youfor your continued support; andwish everyone a very happyand healthy, & safe holidayseason. Hope to see you at theholiday meeting.

supermarkets and stoop stands in Manhattan and Brooklyn forproducts illegally imported from China (Yan Pin and Yan Ball).Photo shows the briefing conducted by Margaret Shore of USDA.

items that you would like todonate, please bring them
with you.
Dearest Friends and Colleagues,
ThePhilippines has been hit by a double calamity in the span of less than a month. Most of us have heardabout the devastation from the earthquake and Super Mega typhoon “Haiyan” or “Yolanda,” which happenedin the general area of the Central “Visayas” region of the Philippines.
We all are overwhelmed by the vast loss of life and property rendered by these events, but the tragedy for“Filipinos” working here in the U.S. is especially heartbreaking. We can only imagine how the victims feel andare reacting to the momentous losses they have suffered due to these natural disasters.
That is why I am writing to you. I am asking for your compassion and generosity during this time of graveneed. The devastation the Philippines has suffered will require a sustained relief action. Please considerdonating whatever you can afford to a relief organization that will direct funds to this cause. Money is thebest type of donation now and every penny will count. We urge each and every one of you to help.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and compassion.
