Maths exam will be taken by the whole year group in November 2012.

Level 2 courses are all at the “GCSE” standard.

This term covers new courses such as BTEC and National which are considered to be Vocational courses.

There are some Level 1 courses which are delivered through our Alternative Curriculum where appropriate

We send home our progress checks information so you can compare progress against targets.

This will happen four times a year; Third week in November, Second week in January, Second week in March. Second week in June.

Many subjects are still familiarising themselves with new GCSE courses this year.

Most GCSE subjects no longer do “traditional” coursework.

Most do controlled tasks, done under supervision. Strict guidelines on what can be done

BTEC and Nationals provide courses which are 100% coursework

Need to be organised, stick to deadlines and not let work build up

Develop a portfolio of work

Learn the content then apply it to a task

P1: Complete an application letter, with an attached CV, to a local health and social care settingP2: Plan appropriately for an interview relating to work in health and social care

M1: Demonstrate appropriate interview skills

D1: Assess the strengths and weaknesses of your interview skills

P3: Carry out a period of work experience, using relevant skills, in a health and social care setting

M2: Discuss your overall performance, during the period of work experience

D2: Produce an action plan to show how you could have improved your work experience performance

P4: Demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills in a health or social care setting

M3 – Discuss own interpersonal skills used in a health and social care setting

P5: Complete a reflective log book during your period of work experience in a HSC setting

Most GCSE courses have an examined component.

Many students will take public exams during January and June of Year 10; English, Science, Geography, History, Business

Studies.

English and Maths offer early entry to all students to give them “more than one chance” at passing.

We monitor the links between attendance and success in Y11.

Poor attendance always brings limited success.
