THEME

We will never hunger nor thirst when we are

steadfast in following Jesus.

WORD

Jos 24:1-2a, 15-17, 18b, 22-23; Ps 34:2-3, 16-21;

Eph 5:21-32; Jn 6:60-69

ORDER

“Be subject to one another out of reverence for

Christ.” (Eph 5:22)

“Decide today whom you will serve.”

(Jos 24:15)

DIRECTION

“As for me and my household we will serve the

Lord.” (Jos 24:15)

Be imitators of Christ.

“Be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiv-

ing to one another as God has forgiven you in

Christ.” (Eph 4:32, 5:1)

REFLECTION

The Book of Joshua speaks of God’s saving

action of liberating the Israelites from Egypt

and exhorts the people not to follow “false

gods.” In Psalm 34, the people are told of how

God frees them from their fears, and rescues

the faithful from their many troubles making

God near to the brokenhearted. In the second

reading, St. Paul’s message to the Ephesians on

“submission to one another” refers to mutual

responsibility for husbands and wives to sub-

mit to each other for a peaceful and fruitful

relationship. This is also very appropriate for

all of us in the BLD Community as one body of

Christ serving the Lord, where submission to

one another also applies. In John’s Gospel, we

credible privilege of being His, but that privi-

lege comes with a responsibility. We must

obey Him. We must recognize that He alone

is the source of all we have – our livelihood,

our health, even our family. We must respond

with gratitude, obedience, and faith.

Yet, God does not want us to simply know to

whom we belong; God wants to have an inti-

mate relationship with us - like that of a hus-

band and wife, a parent and child. God wants

us to keep our loving relationship with Him

real, active and alive. Let us choose today to

serve God, and do what pleases Him, no mat-

ter what the cost may be. Know to whom we

belong, and consequently, God will “belong”

to us, too.

“Father, we thank you for Jesus, the Bread of Life,

in whom we have eternal life. Today, we choose to

follow you, and serve You with all of our heart,

mind and strength. In His name we pray.

Amen!”

PROMISE

“The Lord is close to the broken hearted and those

who are crushed in spirit He saves.” (Ps 34:19)

hear that it is the Spirit that gives life. John pro-

claims that the words Jesus speaks are of the

spirit and that they are “life” for those who follow

Him.

The key personal act in the theme for this Sun-

day’s readings is not just believing that Jesus is

the Son of God who offers eternal life, but accept-

ing Him as our personal Lord and Savior and

choosing to serve and follow Him.

The followers of Jesus faced some difficult deci-

sions in their own time. They found the teachings

of Jesus hard to understand. In one of His teach-

ings, Jesus said to the people, "I am the living

bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who

feeds on me will live forever." When the people

heard it, they said, "This is a hard teaching. How

can anyone accept it?" Some of them quit follow-

ing Jesus after that day.

Jesus knew that many people were grumbling

and complaining, so he turned to the twelve

whom he had chosen to be his disciples and said,

"You don't want to leave too, do you?" Then Peter

answered him. "Lord, to whom shall we go? You

have the words of eternal life. We believe and

know that you are the Holy One of God." The dis-

ciples had answered the call to follow Jesus. They

were not about to turn back now.

You and I face the same decision those first disci-

ples faced. Will we follow Jesus, or will we look

for another to lead us? It may not always be easy

to follow Jesus, but to whom can we go? Who else

offers eternal life?

The challenge for us, as disciples of Christ, is to

remain faithful to God, and not with the world.

We need to know who we belong to — we are

children of the Most High God. We have the in-

To let ourselves be nour-

ished by the “Bread of Life,” he said, “means to be in tune with the heart

of Christ, to assimilate his choices, thoughts, behav-

iors.” - Pope Francis

“It was wonderful to see Froilan and Charito again last weekend with Tito and Fe and most of

all the 7 youths they brought with them. It was such a fruitful and spirit filled weekend. Truly, it provided a stronger foundation for our children here in Cincinnati. Thank you. Mavi and I

could see that you were fulfilling your mission to evangelize. You empowered, tended, formed

and equipped our youth group here. Our hats off to the BLD Toronto Youth Ministry leaders for sending out your young men and women as messengers to bring Christ’s love to their

peers, thus paving the way for their integration into becoming mature Christians. A beautiful example of sacrifice and service to our Lord Jesus Christ. To God be the Glory.” - Mavi and

Fe Obach, Evangelization Stewards

CINCINNATI YOUTH FEEDBACK

“I really enjoyed that joyful event. It's a very nice spiritual experience for me. I liked the part when we sang with actions. The youth group members were so nice. I also liked the LIPJASS

that we always used and the prayers that we wrote in different groups, that they combined all in one paragraph. I would like to thank the BLD Cincinnati and BLD Toronto for inviting me to

be a part of this event.” - Zoe Madison Torres

“Good morning Tita Susan, thank you for having us there yesterday. We had fun and we

learned a lot from that event. Thanks for having the Toronto youth over there. We learned a lot from them, they’re all super great. Thank you God for having them here in Cincinnati and

thank you also to you and Tito Ben and the rest of the BLD members. This is only the begin-

ning for me. Thank you”!!!!!!!! - Rachel de la Cruz

“I had a splendid time at the church. I learned a lot and I'm looking forward to seeing them again, and I thank the people from Toronto for coming over and spending time with us. They

made going to church more interesting. Even though I don't like going to church, I enjoyed

this. I was especially happy that we got breaks to eat food.” - Destiny Brown

“Hi, I just wanted to say that the experience was really cool! I liked all the gatherings, skits, and awesome games! It was cool learning about Toronto's BLD. I learned a lot of stuff I didn't

really know before! It felt great to express our feelings to them without being judged! I had a really fun time learning about God! It was a great experience! I hope we can do something as

fun as that some other time!” - Kaydee Simon Bell

“We had a great time with BLD Toronto. We are thankful that they came and taught us more

about God. I hope we could do this again next time!” - CJ Lorenzo

“I liked that the Toronto youth was nice to us the Cincinnati BLD youth. I liked the new games they taught us. I also liked their teachings because it was lively and fun! Thank you!” -

Jonathan Woytsek

“The BLD from Toronto absolutely taught me tons of stuff. They taught me how to make a

Praise and Worship and they also bonded with us throughout the day. They taught us that we can talk to God or Jesus or to any saint without you paying or worrying about paying because

it's free. I also learned that praying is very important and during their short skit, they showed us that Jesus is watching every time and BLD Toronto strengthened and inspired more people

and youth, especially me. We are hoping that they could come visit us again SOON. I am very

thankful to be with them for a day, it was a day worth remembering.” - Angela Lorenzo

CINCINNATI ADULT FEEDBACK

“The Cincinnati Youth and Mark 10 ministries started 3 months ago, and our deepest thanks

goes to Toronto Youth Coordinators (Froilan and Charito) and Mark 10 Coordinators (Ariel and Ethel) for giving us some guidance on taking our first steps. More thankful for the visit of the

entire Toronto Youth delegation last weekend (7 Youth members and 2 Youth elder couples). They were all God sent, a gift for Cincinnati. Our Mark 10 and Youth ministries are only start-

ing and the help that was most needed came, using the all-around talents of the Toronto

Youth filling different roles such as leading praise and worship, conducting workshops, teach-ings and even assessing the individualities of our youth. They have a lot of endearing qualities

worth noting like their patience and joy but the love of our kids for them sums up everything. As a result, we can now confidently move on by the grace of the Lord to take our next steps,

apply the learning and the catering to individual needs of our kids.

Thanks for Toronto Youth Ministry’s time and effort and especially making themselves avail-

able. Even for us adults, we learned a number of things from the Toronto youth, one of these is gaining a better understanding on how to relate with the younger folks in communicating or

sharing information because of the generation gap. Based on the feedback, they all want the Toronto delegation to come back… and we think about this in a way of conducting refresher

workshops or helping in the forthcoming Youth LSS or Encounters. We look forward to seeing

everybody again in the near future.” - Ben & Susan Estera: Pastoral Stewards

“Hello Toronto YOUTH, thank you all for your time and patience. I know all the youth here in

Cincinnati learned a lot from you guys, and even myself. it was a good weekend for me, too. Hope you guys come back again here in Cincinnati soon....Thank you all.” - Flora Dela

Cruz, mother of Rachel and MJ Dela Cruz

“The one on one time with the Cincinnati Youth, I think, was a great idea. It gave them some-

thing to look forward to and provided an inspiration for the future. We are grateful to To-ronto’s youth for sharing their time and talent with our Cincinnati BLD youth and also with the

BLD Cincinnati covenant community for making the youth ministry initiative happen. May God

continue to bless us all!” - Tess Woytsek, Mark 10 Coordinator

“The weekend with the BLD Toronto Youth Ministry was a wonderful weekend experience . We were amazed by their perseverance in serving the Lord in spite of their young age; they went

beyond our expectations - something we, as adults, can learn from. The presentations they prepared were amazing; for example: the graphics portion or Disney characters they used to

describe some scenarios, made their presentations more effective and livelier. Big Thumbs Up

to your Ministry!” - Ed and Nena Villarroya, Formation Stewards

“The Toronto Youth Team delivered an amazing and wonderful presentation. They exuded

grace, wisdom, knowledge, joy, and confidence. The prayers and the selected songs by Jean were full of substance. It was so uplifting that I could feel the spirit moving me. The teachings

were presented with clarity and understanding that inspired our Youth to make heart-felt prayers. The BLD Youth are now spiritually equipped to deliver the good news of the Lord and

to sing praises for His glory…” - Marcial and Persy Carneo, Youth Coordinators

“Beautiful and very inspiring! Praise the Lord for allowing it to happen. God bless everyone.”

- Bob and Perla Weigel, Mission Stewards

BLD joins ANCOP WALK 2015

Let us all Praise and Thank the Lord for a successful “ANCOP WALK”

last Saturday, August 15th. The honor and glory in this victorious fund-

raiser belong to our Lord alone who made it happen for the benefit of the poorest of the poor

children in the Philippines.

Thank you all for your prayers and participation in this WALK. We are most especially grate-

ful to the registrants, participants and generous donors. Through your support and generosity,

you became living witnesses of Christ’s love and compassion. You have taken to heart what

God expects from you- help alleviate poverty in the Philippines by providing educational as-

sistance to the impoverished young children who would otherwise grow up to be among the

poorest of the poor. Thank you for being part of a good cause, for believing in it and sharing

your blessings with those in need.

The initial report indicates that we had raised/collected about $9,165.86 which is 91.65% of our

target/projected amount this year but, 60% less than what we raised last year.

Brothers and Sisters, with the funds that we raised from this WALK, we will be able to support

the education of at least 23 young poor children for one year. We are also happy to report that

there were 26 BLD members who actually participated in the WALK. Thank you, Walkers, for

representing the BLD/OSG Community in this year’s ANCOP Walk.

Maraming Salamat at Mabuhay Po Kayo. May God bless you and your families always.

The Breaking the Yoke of Poverty (BYOP) Ministry and Members

(Youth Ministry...continued from page 7)

“Hi, I would like to say that it was fun. I liked the skit and the groups. I learned a lot. I liked the bunny bunny game. I liked how we could tell them if we weren't paying attention some-times and they wouldn't get mad.” - Samantha Woytsek

“I would like to say I had a great time with the Toronto group! They taught me a lot of things I didn't know. I liked the skit and the gatherings. It was fun when we could express how we feel and they would understand. They made it a great opportunity for me to learn more about God.” - Kristine Obach

“It was really great to meet/know about you guys! The meeting was very informative at the same time very interactive! Not only did you guys just talk most of the time but in between those time you sang songs and had dances that came along with it, so that was good to keep us active! LIPJASS was fun to know and little groups to learn and understand that more which was great! There is nothing that you guys need to change cause you had it perfect! Well, it was fun while it lasted, hopefully we get to see you guys soon!” - Joshua de la Cruz

Cincinnati, Ohio

He said to them, “Go throughout the whole world and preach the gospel to all people.” (Mk 16:15)

The Lord has called and we answered. We thank God for sending us to Cincinnati this past

weekend. BLD Cincinnati is beginning to re-build their Youth Ministry and had been in constant

communication with us for some guidance and direction, until it has been decided that we go

there to ‘show’ them what we do in the Youth Ministry. We’re fortunate to drive only 10 hours

instead of driving throughout the whole world and preaching the gospel not only to their youth,

but also to some of their adults and Mark 10s, who decided to join us.

We were blessed with our Youth Ministry members (Jean Caniedo, Angelica de la Cruz, Faith

Anne Dolleton, Kyle Fernandez, Amiel Castillo, Daniel Fernandez and Aaron Castillo and Tito and

Fe Sanchez who drove some of our youth with us) and are grateful to them for answering God’s

call. Our heartfelt thanks goes to BLD Cincinnati, their elders and all their members, especially

Ben and Susan Estera – DCS for Pastoral, for giving us this wonderful opportunity, for their kind-

ness and warm hospitality and, last but not the least, to all their youth members and their Mark

10s. We also thank our BLD Toronto leaders for their support and the prayers of the community

and for our Youth Ministry youth and adult members who we left behind to continue the Friday

praise and worship.

"From there they sailed (back) to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work

which they had completed. And when they had come and gathered the church together, they reported all that

God had done with them, and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles."

(Acts 14:26, 27, emphasis added) (Continued on page 6)
