November 3, 2017 Dear Cape Families, During the month of November, we are reminded of all the things we are thankful for each day. Our Cape families are at the top of our list! We hope you take time to reflect on all the wonderful joys you have in your lives. We are very thankful and privileged to work with students at Cape Elementary. Each one of them is our joy! Dear Cape Families,

During the month of November, we are reminded of all the things we are thankful for each day.

Our Cape families are at the top of our list! We hope you take time to reflect on all the wonderful

joys you have in your lives. We are very thankful and privileged to work with students at Cape

Elementary. Each one of them is our joy!

Our Trunk or Treat event was huge success. We had over 800 people attend along with 20 trunks

and over 12,000 pieces of candy donated. Once again our Cape families’ donations and support

created a special evening for our students.

On Friday, November 10 at 8:15 a.m. we will thank and honor our Veterans in a very special

ceremony at Cape Elementary. We would like to invite any veterans in our community to attend.

Please share the date and time with any veteran you may know or call the school with the

veteran’s information and we can mail an invitation to them.

Administrators and teachers everywhere recognize the important contributions parents make

toward a child’s success in school. There is no question about it - success at school begins at home.

Parents are the single most important variable in a child’s schooling. Parents model both a silent

and spoken language in front of their children daily.

One of the most important components of a good school is the partnership between the school

and parents who work together for the best interest of children. The close partnership between

home and school is one of the exceptional strengths at Cape Elementary School. Cape has a

strong tradition of supportive, hard-working parents. Throughout the year parents have the

opportunity to develop that partnership in a wide variety of ways. Parents join the PTO, volunteer in

the classroom, help at events, attend School Advisory Council meetings, read to their children and

help in many other ways. It is important to your child that you are involved in some way at school.

This lets your child know you think his or her school is important.

Due to Hurricane Irma, we have five adjusted school days in December and January. December

19, 20 and 21 will be full days of school and December 22 will be an early dismissal day at 12:10. We

will return from Winter Break on Monday, January 8. Thanks for marking your calendars now.

We are honored and privileged to be part of the Cape family. Happy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

Nicole Osterholm and Kristi Sund

Thank you to our students, parents and school personnel for supporting National Bullying Prevention Month in October!

Students were involved in activities including: Wearing blue on

October 18 to Stomp Out Bullying; Public Service

Announcements, videos and tips on the news each morning;

Pledge signing opportunities and wearing orange for National

Unity Day on Oct. 25. The Unity Tree in the Cafeteria and

Project Connect chains brought us together as a school

community. Every class is participating in lesson one of a three-

part series of classroom lessons designed to provide answers to

three questions pertaining to bullying: What’s the problem? Why

should I care? and, What can I do about it?

Anti-Bullying Policy: The Jeffery Johnston Stand Up for All Students Act became a law in June 2008. The School Board of Lee County has approved a Board Policy which states their guidelines for the identification and reporting of bullying, expectations for behavior, procedures and consequences regarding bullying and harassment. In short, the School District of Lee County will not tolerate any form of bullying or harassment between students and/or adults on our school campuses. Our goal is protection of our students, and provision of a safe and nurturing educational environment for all of our students and staff. If you have questions pertaining to Cape Elementary School’s procedures for handling suspected bullying or harassment, please feel free to contact Miss Shelly Boeck, Certified School Counselor, or Mrs. Kristine Sund, Assistant Principal.

Our first Positive Behavior Support school-wide SOAR party

was a BMX Spectacular! Students were treated to the BMX

Trickstars and an ice pop. Please continue to encourage your

student to follow our SOAR expectations as we gear up for

Seymour’s Winter Olympics celebration at the end of Quarter 2

(right before Winter Break).

The district-wide character word for November is

CITIZENSHIP/PATRIOTISM. This involves the quality of an

individual’s response to membership in a community. The

district’s quote for the month is, “Ask not what your country can

do for you but what you can do for your country.” Please join

with us in November in promoting citizenship and patriotism to

build these character traits in our future leaders here at Cape

Elementary School.

November Health News:

November is Diabetes Awareness Month –

Talk to your health care provider about the

risk factors in your family, take

precautions, & support the people you know

with Diabetes!

Continue to say “ BOO” to the Flu! – The

Center for Disease Control advises

everyone 6 months of age and older to get

a flu shot during the months of October

and November. Talk to your doctor.

Allergy & Asthma season has

arrived. Monitor all symptoms closely and

follow your health care provider’s

advice. If your child has asthma, it is

extremely important to keep an inhaler at

school.

We can protect and strengthen our own

immunity by eating nutritious foods, taking

daily walks, sleeping 8 –10 hours a night,

reducing stress, and smiling daily.

Thank you to Jungle Golf of
