Date Claimer:

05 December Fun swimming carnival

06 December Prep/1 excursion to Ivanhoe

This week brings us to the end of the school year for 2018.

We’d like to thank the parents and students for supporting us throughout the year and wish you all a restful and enjoy-ing summer holiday break.

Speech Night:

Last week saw us host a very successful speech night. I would like to thank all the staff that worked extremely hard behind the scenes in ensuring that everything ran to plan.

The large crowd was entertained by some very talented and enthusiastic students who were keen to perform for their families and friends.

The Prep class were led by teacher Miss Anthony to give a stirring rendition of Shotgun. The subtle reference to wear-ing the green and gold in the song was certainly not lost on the students who proudly tugged at their green and gold uniforms.

Ms Thompson’s Year 1 students belted out John Williamson’s True Blue. Theirs’s was a multi-modal presentation with a beautiful moviemaker program showing the students in their home environment. I’m not sure I’d want to have to shape up to some of those youngsters after watching them ‘prepare for a fight.’

Miss Hood and Year 2/3 brought levity to the night with their performance of the Ning, Nang, Nong song. Students were proud to stand up and play their part and it is always great when teachers take the time to personalise verses within the songs to match the class.

BTY from Year 4, (Behind the Year), was a spoof of the regular current affairs show that is made for students at school. This class under the guidance of Miss Chapman did a remarkable job.

Year 5/6 and Miss Jones hosted their brand of a current affairs show as well with the ‘Year in Review.’ It takes a lot of time to pull together scripts that allow these types of performances to run seamlessly and congratulations are in order for this class too.

The high school students and their teachers danced their way through the history of dance. It is always pleasing to see teachers working alongside their students to make great achievements. This great performance was well received by the audience and I am sure that there was plenty of toe tapping throughout the exhibition.

The formal part of the evening saw students in Years Prep to Year 6 receiving book prizes from the P&C.

The main prize winners for the night were acknowledged with presentations and are as follows:

Tambo State School would like to thank its kind sponsors who help make this evening a memorable one for our students.

Staff have worked hard to pull this event together again this year and they too need to be commended on their hard work.

St Brigid’s Drought Appeal Back to School Support Voucher:

Included in the envelope that is being mailed to you with your child/rens school report cards is a voucher from the St Brigid’s Parish in Longreach. Their representative, Mary Bell, has worked hard to ensure that the students of our school have received a number of vouchers throughout the year.

The new voucher is to be used at Foodworks and is to be used for school supplies for 2019. These vouchers expire on 01 February 2019 so I would encourage you to use your vouchers before then.

Staffing 2019:

As you may be aware, the teachers in the primary school are all on transfer or leave for next year.

Replacement teachers for next year are: Miss Hayley Jones, Miss Rachel Willman, Miss Teagen Davis and Miss Kayla Gunn.

Class allocations for 2019 are as follows:

Prep – Miss Rachel Willman

1 /2 - Miss Kayla Gunn

3 /4 – Miss Hayley Jones

5 /6 – Miss Teagen Davis

Volvo Christmas Present Run:

The school would like to tank Mayor Andrew Martin and his contacts from Volvo,

Brisbane for their generous donations of gifts for the students in Prep to Year 6 this week.

Tambo students have once again been the recipients of great gifts from very generous people.

Year 10 Graduation:

The school farewelled Sam Sargood, our only Year 10 student last week. We wish Sam all the best in his future endeav-ours.

Year 6 Graduation:

The Year 6 graduation was held on Tuesday this week with a lovely luncheon prepared by Kerry Russell. We wish all students moving on to boarding school every success and we look forward to those who have chosen to stay with us coming back next year.

School Behaviour Focus:

Throughout the year teachers will be focussing on specific behaviours in their classrooms in relation to our “Be” rules.

This week’s focus is “Be Safe.” Students are asked to be Safe when playing at lunch and before school.

Weekly Attendance Rate:

The attendance rate for Week 8, Term 4 was 91%. I encourage parents to notify the school of student absence as soon as possible on each school day. Parents it would be beneficial to provide a doctor’s certificate for absences longer than 3 days.

Parents you must notify the school of the reason for your child’s absence. If the school is not notified we are re-quired by legislation to telephone you. If your child is going to have a prolonged absence you need to contact the school regarding this.
