MuhurthamThis is the first major ritual that actually onsets the marriage ceremonies. This is also known or referred to as the Muhurthum. Snathakam

This ritual is known to be held at the bridegroom’s residence, right before the Muhurtham. The groom is asked to adorn a silver thread on him as part of the tradition. In most customs, this ritual is known to take place few hours before marriage, generally on the morning of the occasion.

Kashi YatraVedic chants are recited by the family priest and repeated by the groom. Post recital, the groom pretends that he will leave on a Kashi Yatra. He shows his desire to renounce the life that he is leaving and become a priest. This is when the bride’s mother actually holds him back and asks him to take the charge of the home and get married.
