• It enables us to interact with a computer and its hardware, and perform task.

• There are two types of software- System Software and application Software.

• System software is divided into two parts- Operating System and Utility.

• Windows is the most commonly used operating system.

• Utility software performs basic maintenance task on the computer. It Includes Antivirus Utility Software, Backup Utility Software, Disk Defragmentation Utility software etc.

• Application software carries out a specific task. It is two types – General Purpose Application Software and Customized Application Software.

Hardware Software

1) The Physical components of computer that can be seen, touched is termed as hardware.

The components of computer that cannot be seen or touched is termed as software.

2) For Eg: Keyboard, Mouse, Printer etc. For Eg: Ms Word, Ms Paint. Q2) What is an application software? Give an example. Ans) An application software is also called a program. This software does a specific type of work. For Example Paint program for drawing, Calculator program for doing sums.
