Lack of Education in Jamaica

William M. MacMillan brought attention to the lack of education in Jamaica several years after Joyce was born.

The rioters of 1937 swept the Caribbean. A state of emergency was declared, and Britain stepped up and offered scholarships, starting in 1941.

Daisy Nation is why Joyce learned to take risks.

Daisy Nation put everything on the line to put Joyce in college

Daisy Nation wanted her children to leave Jamaica and encouraged them to take risks in life. (page 274)

Taking risks is very important in life. If her children never left Jamaica they wouldn’t have the options like go to college or to make something out of themselves.

If people never take risks in there lives they don’t know what they could truly become or reach there potential in something.
