Thank youI’m sure you’d agree that, to save even just one child’s life, it’s worth doing everything we possibly can.

So how about doing something that could save children’s lives for many years to come?

I’m offering you the opportunity to do just that today, by asking you to leave a gift in your Will to the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

If you include the Children’s Hospital Foundation in your Will, any gift you make – whether large or small – will carry on funding life-saving work long into the future.

Your generosity will support our sickest kids. These children need urgent life-saving treatment, the best possible medical care, lots of support and a little entertainment to help them through their time in hospital.

Your gift can make all the difference to a child in a life-or-death situation.

Right now, people like you are funding vital medical equipment and literally dozens of long-term research projects into childhood diseases.

Any one of these projects could lead to a breakthrough that will help us discover new, better and more effective ways of diagnosing, treating and even curing life-threatening childhood illnesses.

Rosie Simpson Chief Executive Officer

Your support really matters • Leaving a gift in your Will is easier than you might think.

• You control the process from beginning to end by communicating with your solicitor.

• All gifts in Will, large and small, are greatly appreciated and make a big difference.

There is so much a gift in your Will can do!

Research: Generous donor support helps fund research needed to find faster diagnoses, better treatments and cures for some of the most devastating childhood illnesses and injuries.

Equipment: The Children’s Hospital Foundation aims to raise millions of dollars every year to fund the placement and use of equipment.

Clinical Treatment: The Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital will have over 40,000 admissions each year.

Care Coordination: Care coordinators are becoming a vital part of family support to help children leave hospital sooner and be cared for at home.

Entertainment and care programs: With your support, the Children’s Hospital Foundation offers a range of programs and activities that provide welcome distractions and entertainment for sick kids.

Research is a wonderful thing. I don’t think any money is ever wasted on research. If research can help just one little baby, it’s worth it. It can’t prevent what

happened to my son, but it may prevent other children and parents going through the same experience.

Not everyone can leave tens of thousands of dollars. But if everybody left something, it would make a huge difference. It’s thinking of the future and how it can help children – maybe even your grandchildren or great-grandchildren.

It’s taken me 34 years. I should have done it earlier, because you never know what is around the corner for you. I want to tell anyone thinking about doing it – don’t let it take you 34 years.

baby son, Mark, to a very rare condition, she

knew she had to support the Children’s Hospital

Foundation. That’s why she’s pledged to make vital

future research possible by leaving us a gift

in her Will.

There are so many reasons to leave a gift in your Will to the Children’s Hospital Foundation

Realising the importance of making a Will, we gave thoughtful consideration to who we would like to benefit from what we have accumulated during our lifetime. As we have no children, we decided to help

sick children associated with the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

We donate through the Children’s Hospital Foundation’s monthly giving program and have left a gift in our Will. We have found genuine satisfaction in helping the Children’s Hospital Foundation and encourage others to join us in helping sick children through leaving a gift to this wonderful organisation.

Making a gift in your Will means peace of mind for you – and vital funds for sick kids

It’s one of the most important documents you will make in your lifetime, yet many people put off making a Will. Everyone should have a Will to make sure the people you love, and the charitable causes you care about, are looked after when you are gone.

Your Will makes sure that everyone gets exactly what you intended.

Before making a Will it is absolutely vital to seek legal advice. This could be through your legal advisor, the Public Trustee or a Trustee Company. Having a legal professional draw up your Will is a crucial part of ensuring it is a legally binding document.

Please seek professional advice to make sure your Will is valid and your wishes will be carried out.

Your Will is the perfect place to make sure that the causes you have supported throughout your life can continue to benefit from your generous support, even when you’re no longer here to oversee it.

A gift in your Will to the

Children’s Hospital Foundation will fund

essential research and save children’s lives

for generations to come.

Leaving a gift in your Will is as easy as picking up the phone Making or changing your Will to include a gift to the Children’s Hospital Foundation could be as simple as making a phone call or sending an email. Simply contact your legal advisor and they will do all the important work for you. It probably won’t cost anywhere near as much as you might think. Once it’s taken care of, you will have the peace of mind that comes from knowing all your affairs are in order.

There are a few different kinds of gifts you can leave in your Will. For our recommended wording, see page 15 or talk to our planned giving manager by calling 1300 SICK KIDS (1300 7425 5437) or emailing [email protected].

Residual gift

Rather than a set amount, this type of gift allows you to share a proportion of your Estate to the Children’s Hospital Foundation, to be paid after your friends and family have been looked after.

A residual gift maintains its relative value and automatically adjusts as the value of your Estate increases. This means it may well be worth more than a pecuniary gift when it’s realised.

This is because a significant sum today will not have the same value as years go by.

A residual gift in your Will is flexible, maintaining its value with inflation and means you can be sure that all your beneficiaries receive exactly what you intended.

Pecuniary giftThis is what we call a gift of a specified dollar amount. It could be any amount you wish. It is your choice.

12

Page 13: A gift in your Will could save children’s lives for …has amalgamated with another charity or organisation or has changed its name then the gift will not fail but my executors will

Specific giftThis could be a particular item, like a piece of jewellery or a painting.

CodicilYour existing Will can be updated without writing a new Will, by adding a Codicil. A Codicil is a legal document that adds or changes specific provisions, but leaves other provisions intact.

You should always speak to your legal advisor before adding a Codicil to your Will.

Of course, we’re always grateful for any gift but a residual gift is the very best way of remembering us in your Will. Ask your legal advisor to tell you more.

By arranging to leave a gift in your Will to the Children’s Hospital Foundation and telling us about it now, you won’t just be funding crucial research projects tomorrow, you will also help us to plan all our work today, with more confidence and accuracy, to help generations of sick kids.

Thank you for whatever you

can do to help
