ROUNDTABLE PRESENTATIONS
Paul VernonQueen’s UniversityRBJSE pre-conferenceJanuary 15, 2015
WHY ROUNDTABLE PRESENTATIONS?• Less formal than paper presentations
• Allow for informal discussion and feedback
• Allows for more participation in others’ papers
• Easier to achieve … more spaces available for grad students than regular presentations
• More personal
MY EXPERIENCES SO FAR • CSSE – UVIC 2013:
• Presented paper: Embodied and multimodal learning in Dalcroze and Kodaly music education pedagogy
• CSSE – Brock University 2014:
• Presented paper: State of the Arts: Factors influencing Ontario elementary teachers’ performing arts instruction – preliminary results
LENGTH OF PRESENTATION
• 90 minute session with 6 presenters
• 10 minutes of presentation with 5 minutes of questions and discussion
SUPPORTING TEXT/VISUALS• Flipbook/binder presentation
• Nice way to share visuals and data around a table
• Handout
• Allows for group participants to send feedback later
• Additional opportunities for disseminating extra information
ROLE OF DISCUSSANT
• There is a discussant for these presentations, same as others
• Discussant moderates discussion and poses questions as necessary
RELAX!
• Try not to stress too much.
Have fun! Enjoy the opportunity to share your work with others!
