Managing Expectations at Post

• Meet with colleagues who will transfer in the summer.

• Explain when to submit the TM2 – not too early, not too late, just right!

• Explain requirement to finish the tour of duty – consequences of not finishing: repayment or R&R/SND waivers requested.

• Explain basics of timing & direct travel.

• Dispel the 30-day early departure myth.

• Explain home leave, when, where.

• AO is the Training Officer – contact to enroll.

Approving TM2s• Correct travel should already be authorized when the

employee is paneled.

• Timing – Does Post agree with the departure date.

• R&R repayment waiver – if departing before TED, request a waiver and give justification.

• Home Leave – minimum requirement being met? If not, has waiver been requested?

• Split HL/Split training – include statement that employee is responsible for additional costs.

• Sensible contact information.

HOME LEAVE… the commandments

1. 18 months of continuous service for Home Leave eligibility

2. Minimum Home Leave days: 20 days overseas post to post 1 day overseas to domestic

3. Maximum Home Leave days: 45 days overseas to overseas 25 days overseas to domestic

4. More than maximum or less than minimum: request waiver from Assignment Officer

5. Deferred HL for a domestic transfer must be approved and completed within six months. Must be taken in one continuous period.

6. Delayed HL for an overseas transfer must be approved and can affect R&R eligibility.

7. Separation and HL: required service after HL -- 6 months domestic; 12 months overseas

8. HL for Priority Staffing Posts (PSPs) are different!
