3 Results of in vitro study in which twenty-two subjects participated in a randomized, double-masked, contra lateral eye study to evaluate water loss of Biotrue ONEday, 1-Day Acuvue Moist, 1-Day Acuvue TruEye contact lenses. After 4, 8, 12, and 16 hours of wear, lenses were removed and immediately weighed (wet weight). The lenses were then completely dried and reweighed (dry weight). 10 Thirty-nine ECPs (from 10 countries) refitted 422 existing soft contact lens wearing presbyopes into PureVision®2 Presbyopia lenses. Patients returned for follow-up visits after 1-2 weeks. ECP assessment of lens performance including ease of fit, and patient satisfaction with lenses in real-world conditions, were measured using a 6-point agreement survey.

12 In Study 648, a 21 investigator study across multiple sites May through June 2010, 339 existing Si-Hy wearers were shown a concept card, and asked to complete a short self completion survey. Consumers were then given either the new version of PureVision or the current offering to use for four weeks, and completed an online survey after seven days. Consumers were not told whether they were trialling the new version or the current design. Investigators then completed a survey about each patient after their 4 week exit visit. Consumer was asked to rate on a 6 point scale the extent to which they agreed or disagreed with each statement

14 Five (5) lenses each of PureVision® 2HD For Astigmatism, Biofinity Toric, Air Optix for Astigmatism, and ACUVUE Oasys for Astigmatism of powers -1.00D -0.75D x 180 and -5.00D -0.75D x 180 were measured on the SHS Inspect Ophthalmic Instrument from Optocraft GmbH over 6 mm aperture size. Lenses were immersed during measurement in a cuvette filled with buffered saline. The average values were offset by +0.15 μm of spherical aberration (population average: Thibos LN et al. J. Opt. Soc AMA 2002 19:2329-2348).

15 Results from a 20 investigator, multi-site , cross-over study of PureVision®2 HD for Astigmatism and PureVision® Toric lenses. A total of 292 subjects completed the study. After 7 days of wear for each lens, subjects completed a online survey regarding lens performance. Consumer rated performance attributes using a 6 point scale (1 = strongly disagree and 6 = strongly agree) and using a 5-point scale (excellent, very good, good, fair, poor). At the final visit, investigators rated the extent to which they agreed or disagreed with performance attributes also using a 6-point scale.

16 A one month field clinical study was conducted to evaluate the clinical performance of SofLens Comfort to key competitive products, Acuvue, Acuvue 2 and Biomedics 55. 15 independent clinical investigators in the US enrolled 269 patients in this study. The study was broken into three study cells to assist data analysis. The basic protocol was a one-eye, one-eye design (also called contralateral). Patients and practitioners filled out an assessment form at the 2-week and 4-week visit. Additionally, patients completed a forced choice preference questionnaire.

21 Results of in vitro study performed to evaluate the rate of release of hyaluronan (HA) from both traditional hydrogel (Bausch + Lomb SofLens®38 contact lenses, SofLens For Astigmatism lenses, and Vistakon ACUVUE 2) and silicone hydrogel contact lenses (Bausch + Lomb PureVision® contact lenses, Vistakon ACUVUE Oasys, Vistakon ACUVUE Advance, CIBA O2OPTIX, CIBA Night & Day, and CooperVision Biofi nity) over a 20-hour time period. Lenses were placed in Bausch + Lomb standard lenses cases and soaked overnight in Biotrue prepared with HA tagged with fl uorescein. Hank’s balanced salt solution (HBSS) was dripped over the lenses at a rate that approximates tear fi lm secretion in the human eye as determined by Reddy I, et al. Ocular Therapeutics and Drug Delivery. Technomic Publishing Co. 1996; 174. The solution that rinsed off of the lenses was collected hourly over

a 20-hour period and the fl uorescence intensity was detected. A standard curve was used to determine the concentration of fl uorescein-tagged HA present in each rinse solution. The extended presence of fl uorescein-tagged HA in the rinse solutions indicates the percent of HA retained on the lens surface.

22 A study was conducted to determine the comparative pH of different soft contact lens care disinfecting products in comparison to the pH range reported for healthy human tears. The pH range of tears from healthy human eyes is reported to be 7.3 to 7.7 and the mean pH of tears as measured via fluorophotometrics is 7.5 +/- 0.23. The pH of soft contact lens care products was determined to be in the range of 6.7 to 7.8, while Biotrue multi-purpose solution falls within the pH range for healthy human tears at a pH of 7.5, which is reported to be the mean for tears. Three separate lots of Biotrue, CIBA Clear Care, AMO COMPLETE Easy Rub, Alcon OPTI-FREE Express and Alcon OPTI- FREE RepleniSH were compared using a Fisher Scientific accumet excel XL25 pH meter. Five pH measurements for each solution were taken, averaged and evaluated in comparison to the pH range of healthy tears, as determined by Adler’s Physiology of the Eye, Clinical Application 7th edition.

23 Results of in vitro study following FDA/ISO standalone procedure for disinfecting products modified with organic soil added to create a more rigorous test condition. Primary criteria for effective disinfection are defined as a reduction in the number of bacteria by a minimum of 3 logs (99.9%) and a reduction of mold and yeast by a minimum of 1 log (90%) within the recommended disinfection time. Competitive multi-purpose solutions tested included AMO COMPLETE Easy Rub, Alcon OPTI-FREE Express and Alcon OPTI-FREE RepleniSH.

25 Results from an 11-investigator, multi-site clinical study of renu sensitive (ReNu® MPS) and OPTI-FREE Express solutions in which a total of 256 subjects were enrolled wearing silicone hydrogel contact lenses (Bausch + Lomb PureVision® contact lenses, CIBA Night & Dayy, CIBA O2OPTIX, ACUVUE Advance, and ACUVUE Oasys). Subject assessments were reported at the exit visit (two-month visit). Assessments were measured using a six-point Likert Scale in which 1= strongly disagree and 6= strongly agree. Results represent reported percentage agreement rating for completed and discontinued subjects.
