BRENNERLillian Brenner (nee Binder) passed away athome on September 27, 2016 in Ann’sChoice, Warminster, Pa at the age of 99 ½years young. She was surrounded by thepeople and the things she loved. Formerly ofHuntingdon Valley, she was the beloved wifeof the late Bernard Brenner. Lillian was thesecond child of Sarah and Jacob Binder ofSouth Philadelphia. She will bedeeply missed by her husband of 50 years,Cantor Joshua Gordon; her children, Rachel(Jason) Lichten and Howard (LaurelBuxbaum) Gordon and her grandchildren, Lu-cas Gordon, Sam, Jake and Sophie Lichten.Marilyn is also survived by her twin brother,Robert (Jean) Weiss, beloved Aunt SylviaSchafer and cousins, Ira and Tricia Schaferand Lydia Ritz. Marilyn was the cherisheddaughter of Sam and Yetta Weiss. Born andraised in Philadelphia, Marilyn was a fierceadvocate for her children, her community andwomen’s rights. She was a proud graduate ofOlney High School and Temple Universitywhere she earned both her bachelors andMaster’s degrees. She also earned teacher’scertificates from Gratz College and Netsky In-stitute of Adult Studies. Marilyn was a mathteacher and guidance counselor for the Chel-tenham School District, Strawberry MansionHigh School, and Central High School, ofwhich she was particularly proud. She was apassionate mentor to many students and car-ried those relationships well beyond theirgraduations. Once Marilyn became passion-ate about a cause, she gave it her all. Shewas President of the Glenside ElementaryPTO (and named the Fair of the Bear), Presid-ent of the Shirley Gettlin Chapter of Americ-an Jewish Congress, and President of theTemple University College of Liberal ArtsAlumni Association. She volunteered fordecades at Temple Sinai in Dresher. Marilynwas an enthusiastic piano student for over 30years. Marilyn was a cat lover, organizer offamily gatherings, sewer of clothes, gardener,composer of countless song parodies, spoil-er of grandchildren and her children’s biggestfan. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mar-ilyn’s memory can be made to Planned Par-enthood and Magen David Adom. She will begreatly missed and will forever be the windbeneath our wings.

HAFETZAaron Irwin Hafetz, 89, longtime resident ofMargate, passed away on October 18, 2016,to the voices of his immediate family sharingmemories of bygone Passovers and celebra-tions. His hand was held, and a lifetime ofkisses returned with the kind of love only atruly devoted husband and father caninspire.Aaron lived a life of devotion and ser-vice to his family, community and faith.Irma Sue Hafetz (née Neff), his wife of 59years, was his greatest joy and truest loveand in his final days he used what strengthremained to share one last kiss. Followingservice as a Marine MP during WWII and theKorean War, Aaron married Irma and raisedfour sons. A patriarch in the most profoundsense, Aaron's family relied on his moral wis-dom, unquestioning love and unfailing sup-port. He instilled in his family a strong senseof Jewish identity and commitment to reli-gious and cultural participation. In addition tobeloved family man, Aaron was known as aninspiring teacher who influenced generationsas teacher and ultimately head of the mathdepartment for 35 years at Atlantic City HighSchool, and as Hebrew School teacher atBeth Judah. In the years since retiring in1989, he continued to receive tributes fromformer students whose lives he touched. Formany years he co-owned a hotel in AtlanticCity and continued as a small business own-er until his passing. He remained a respec-ted and steadfast leader in his communityuntil his final months and his generosity as aphilanthropist benefited numerous causesand Jewish organizations. In addition to hiswife, Irma, Aaron's legacy includes son Scottand daughter-in-law Kathy Hafetz of Linwood;Drew Hafetz of Hollywood, FL; Larry Hafetzand son-in-law Eric Gutierrez of Los Angeles,CA; and Glenn Hafetz, of Ventnor, who inthese final years was his father's most con-stant companion; as well as his grandchil-dren Jordon, Brianna, Madison, and Brandon,in whom he had such pride. He also main-tained special relationships with his niecesand nephews and lifelong friendships with hisextended family, including his sister- andbrother-in-law, Jeannie and Burt Bennett ofPompano Beach, FL. LEVINEDavid Levine, originally from Pittsburgh, tra-gically died with his beloved wife, Tania, in ahouse fire on Wednesday, October 5, 2016,at the age of 55. Loving husband of the lateTania Levine for 30 years; caring father of Ju-lian and Monica Levine; beloved son of Pattyand Stanley Levine, brother of Susie Gross(Donald), Hank Levine (Jill), and Betsy Lev-ine-Brown (Marc). David grew up on Mar-bury Road in Churchill where he enjoyedplaying street hockey and every imaginablesport with his siblings and neighbors. A mu-sic lover, David played the guitar, and had re-cently taken it up again. David showed anearly interest in nature and animals, espe-cially reptiles. Spending his summers atKamp Kawanee in Pennsylvania and CampWalden in Canada with his siblings, he wasknown as a fun-loving, prankster. He gradu-ated from Churchill High School in 1979, andthen attended the University of Pennsylvania,graduating in 1983 from the Wharton Schoolof Business. Subsequently, David lived inPhiladelphia, where he met the love of hislife, Tania. After college, David worked as anoptions trader and market maker at the Phil-adelphia Stock Exchange, eventually startingand serving as President of his own firm, DLSecurities, Ltd. Always a risk taker with asharp and analytic mind, David successfullytraded options for twenty-nine years. In2013, David reinvented himself as owner andoperator of ComForCare Senior Services Carewith his wife, Tania. David led the company’smarketing, sales, and business strategy, andwas named one of the Huffington Post’s “50Post-50 Boomers,” individuals who reinven-ted themselves after the age of 50. David wasa devoted husband and father who loved tospend time traveling with his family. Togeth-er, David and Tania shared an appreciationfor fine and exotic foods, wines, and cooking.Always an interested conversationalist, Davidwas the rare kind of person who consistentlyasked others about themselves, and intentlylistened to the answers. He enjoyed playinggolf, and would never say no to a poker gamewith friends. He approached poker likeeverything else he did, with an analytic andstudious mind. Always a lover of clever puns,David was quick witted and funny, and couldbe counted on for a play on words. All whoknew and loved David are overcome withgrief by the devastating and tragic loss. LEVINETetiana (Tania) Levine, of Philadelphia, withher beloved husband, David, tragically died ina house fire on Wednesday, October 5, 2016,at the age of 58. Loving wife of the late DavidLevine for 30 years; caring mother of Julianand Monica Levine; beloved daughter of Na-dia and Osyp Nimylowycz, sister of Marta Foxand Lydia Sos (Yarko). Raised in Phil-adelphia, Tania’s childhood was intimately in-volved with the Ukrainian community, espe-cially scouting. Tania attended St Basil ele-mentary school and graduated from GirlsHigh. Graduating from Temple University,Tania went on to work for the Defense Indus-trial Supply Center in Philadelphia after col-lege. Tania met her soul mate, David, and thetwo were married in 1986. Tania dedicatedherself to raising their two children, Julianand Monica, tending to her parents, and tak-ing care of others, including her preciouscats. At her children’s schools, Tania was anactive member of the Parent Teacher Organ-ization, and could be counted on for her tire-less hours of work. Inspired by her autisticnephew, Tania became an aide in a schoolwith autistic children at Temple Beth Hillel’sBeth El Bright Horizon program, bringing hergifts of patience and kindness. In 2013, Taniaand her husband David acquired a local fran-chise of ComForCare Senior Services Care, ahome healthcare business. With her clients,Tania demonstrated generosity and empathy,as she did with everyone she encountered.Tania had many hobbies and passions, mostnotably painting. Tania was a master painter,crafting intricate artwork and studying underPaul DuSolde. She enjoyed painting outdoorlandscapes and human figures. Tania wasalso a voracious reader who looked forwardto in-depth conversations with her longtimebook club friends. Tania shared a love forEuropean travel and cooking with David andher children. This past summer, Tania andher daughter Monica travelled to Europe to-gether in celebration of Monica’s collegegraduation. All who knew Tania can attest toher gentle spirit; as a mother, daughter, wife,daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, teacher,animal lover, businesswoman, and friend.Tania’s easygoing nature immediately putpeople at ease everywhere she went, and willbe forever missed. PONNOCKToby Ponnock, of Maple Glen, a daughter ofthe late Evelyn and Samuel Ponnock, died onSunday, October 16, of fallopian tube cancer,at age 79, just weeks before her 80th birth-day. She is survived by her husband SheldonCaplan, her daughter Barbara Zamsky, herson Robert (Sharon) Zamsky, her grandchil-dren Laura, Spencer, Dylan, Liam, Layne, andWilliam, and her sister Ronnie (Buzz) Pon-nock Marcus). Toby was vice president ofsales for the Magic of Aloe, a skin care com-pany, for twenty years, and was renowned forher skill with make-up and for her success insales, through education about skin care andcosmetic application. She loved to ski, sail,and socialize. In addition, she was presidentof the Huntingdon Valley Ski Club for manyyears, enjoying teaching her children and hergrandchildren to ski. Toby Ponnock foundmuch love and happiness on her last ski tripwith her children and grandchildren in Febru-ary 2016, while fighting cancer. She loved totake her grandchildren on ski trips, and evencancer did not hold her back. Her friendstook her on her last skiing trip in March2016. Her husband talked of her zest for lifeand how much she was loved by family andfriends alike. For over twenty years, Toby in-spired a group of women by leading yogaclasses, imparting her positive attitude andwords of wisdom. Toby always owned a dog,and her life-long love of animals motivatedher to found "Ma and Paw's Pet Sitting Ser-vice" with her husband Shelly. Toby, whogrew up in Merion, was a graduate of LowerMerion High School and Harcum College,where she majored in art. She was known forknitting exquisite sweaters and afghans, andshe was also a talented sculptor and painter.Shelley and Toby had 49 years together. Sheplayed a significant role in the lives of all ofher grandchildren, taking an interest ineverything that interested them. She loved toattend their concerts, plays, games, and cel-ebrations. She celebrated 5 of her grandchil-dren's B'nai Mitzvot, most recently attendingher grandson Will's Bar Mitzvah. Donationsin her memory may be made to...The Americ-an Cancer Society. TEPLITZKYBruce Alan (Tippy) Teplitzky, 60, of Avon Hill,Howardsville, VA died on Tuesday, Septem-ber 27. He was born on 28, 1956 and grewup in Philadelphia, PA. His parents were thelate Arthur L. and Estelle R. Teplitzky. Bruceattended Emory University, where he earneda BS in Biology and an MS in Microbiology.He worked in the field of drug developmentand spent the last 20 years of his career asan executive with PRA Health Sciences. Hisjob took him all over the world, and heresided in England for three years with hiswife and daughters, which he rememberedwith great fondness. Bruce is survived by hisdaughters, Hannah and Sarah, his brotherAndy and his wife Karol, of Arlington, VA, andhis nephews Sam and Max. In 1999, Brucemoved to Avon Hill in Howardsville fromCharlottesville where he spent many yearsrestoring the house and adjacent property. Itis now the beautiful Avon Hill Lodge, whichhosts many memorable events and familygatherings. He was proud of his role inrestoring the houses and preserving the his-tory of the property. The family would like tothank the staff at the Hospice of the Pied-mont for their care and attention duringBruce’s last days. WEISFELDDavid Weisfeld passed away at the age of 95peacefully on August 5, 2016, after a brief ill-ness. David grew up in the Strawberry Man-sion neighborhood of Philadelphia and livedin Mt. Airy, Wyndmoor and Wyncote beforemoving with wife Lillian to Fort Lauderdale in2001. Dave lived a long, happy and blessedlife. He and his life partner Lil, were marriedjoyfully for 71 years, until her death in July,2014. Dave, together with Lil, loved playingcards with friends and, in middle age, took upgolf and experienced many hours of pleasureon the golf course. He enjoyed going to workevery day, six or even seven days per week.For fifty years, Dave Weisfeld owned and op-erated the D & W Famous Store in Camden,New Jersey. The venerable army and navystore served as a valued resource for Cam-den’s working men and a well regarded andwelcoming community hub. Throughout hisretirement, Dave remained active and fullyengaged in the pleasures and meaningful en-deavors of life. At age 94, Dave walked into ashowroom and drove away in a new Nissansedan. Just days before his passing, he en-joyed his almost daily ritual of coffee and fel-lowship with his Dunkin Donuts buddies, allalmost half his age. Dave was well known forhis wonderful sense of humor – quips andobservations about life and the world – thatprovided a grounding perspective on the upsand downs of the human experience and adelight to all who knew him. He derived muchjoy and pride from his children and grand-children. Dave is survived by son ArthurWeisfeld (Virginia Brabender, Ph.D.) ofSwarthmore, PA, his daughter Judy Levy(Robert Levy, Ph.D.) of Cooper City, FL, andgrandchildren Seth (Kelly), Rachel, Jacob(Natasha Go) and Gabi. It has been said thatdeath ends a life, but the person lives on inthe hearts and minds of his/her loved ones.This truth is a sense of comfort for the fam-ily and friends of David Weisfeld.
