He was married for 34years to Esther Cohen (nee Karol). Milt owneda wholesale health and beauty products busi-ness for many years, and was a drummer forthe Marty Portnoy Orchestra for over 30years. He was a Mason, was charitable andhad a love for animals. Milt enjoyed weekendtrips to the casinos. He loved dancing andwas known by his friends for his jokes andstorytelling.     EISENBERGReta Eisenberg, 89, died at her home inNarberth, PA, after a battle with ovarian can-cer on October 6, 2018. Mrs. Eisenberg, anative of Philadelphia was the daughter of thelate Samuel and Mary Silvers. She grew up inWest Philadelphia with her brothers Edward(Niki) and Donald (Brigitta) Silvers. She at-tended and graduated from West Phil-adelphia High School and then Temple Uni-versity. She married Martin Eisenberg andthey lived in Mt. Airy, Havertown and Bala-Cynwyd where they raised their four boys.She went on to receive her Masters in Educa-tion from Villanova University and worked asa guidance counselor at Northeast, Roxbor-ough, and Germantown High Schools. Fol-lowing the 1979 stroke and 1987 death of herhusband, she devoted her energies in part tofounding the Aphasia Center at Moss Rehab-ilitation Hospital where the Reta EisenbergActivity Center and Reta’s Games Group hasbeen supported and endowed by her sons.Mrs. Eisenberg was not only one of thefounders of the Moss Rehab Aphasia Centerbut also on its Advisory Board. She volun-teered at the Barnes Foundation, The PhysickHouse, and was a docent at the PA Academyof Fine Arts (PAFA). In 1996 she met andformed a life long relationship with HowardIsaacson, M.D. of Wynnewood. They wereavid tennis and bridge players and travelledthe world together. She was a great cook anddedicated her life to her family and friends.She was particularly proud of the trips shetook with her grandchildren, each one ontheir own, but was ultimately disappointedthat she was unable(due to her failing health)to take Micah, her youngest grandson, on atour of Washington, D.C. which she had donewith all the others. She is survived by herfour sons; Stewart Eisenberg of Philadelphiaand his wife Sally, Richard Eisenberg of Phil-adelphia, Fredric Eisenberg and his wifeLeslie Goehl of Narberth, and Matthew Eisen-berg and his wife Hillary Homzie of Napa,California. She was the loving grandmotherof Michael (Katie), Rachael, Rebecca, Sarah,Max, Ben, Stella, Jonah, Ari, and Micah, andher great grandchild, Andrew. Harris was self-made, hard work-ing, and had an enormous amount of grit. Hewas gracious and welcoming, with a sparklein his eyes at the meeting of any new, old, orsoon-to-be friends. He had a deep love of allanimals. Harris was everyone’s perpetualshort order cook and helper in every way -whether it be homework, advice, or a medic-al diagnosis - Harris was a jack of all trades.He was strong minded, brilliant, and almostalways right in his convictions. Harris wasunique and interesting, lighting up all of ourlives, like he lit up the dance floor. Therewere many lessons to be learned from Harrisand here are a few... - There is nothing thatcan't be solved by offering a corned beef spe-cial sandwich from Famous Deli and a hug. -Holiday dinners are far better when you in-vite all friends and family to join you. - Ac-cept and care about everyone, no matter whothey are, with boundless energy and zeal. -There is always time to make new friends andtalk to old friends on the beach. - Always putout way more food than you need to ensureall are fed well including unexpected, but wel-come guests.     MILGRAMWilliam Milgram, theater owner, belovedfather, grandfather and great grandfatherpassed away peacefully in Delray Beach, FLon October 4, 2018. He was born on March10, 1934, to Lilyan and David E. Milgram inPhiladelphia, PA. Previously of Philadelphia,he resided in Highland Beach, FL and SantaFe, NM. Mr. Milgram was President of Mil-gram Theaters, which at its peak, ran a chainof about 100 movie theaters in Pennsylvania,New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland.The Mil-gram chain included the Milgram Theatre, theFox Theatre, and the Stage Door Cinema, inthe heart of Center City Philadelphia. In 1980,those theatres were sold for the constructionof the first building taller than William Penn'shat, now 1600 Market Street and LibertyP l a c e , m a r k i n g t h e b e g i n n i n g o fPhiladelphia's evolution into a modern city.Mr. Milgram attended Penn State University.A true all-around sportsman, he was a skilledgolf and tennis player, avid fisherman, scubadiver and equestrian. He loved the outdoorsand he loved his dogs. He was a season tick-et holder to the Philadelphia Phillies fromShibe Park to Citizens Bank Park. He servedas Director of the National Association ofTheater Owners, and was involved with theVariety Club and The Greater PhiladelphiaChamber of Commerce. He served in the USArmy. Predeceased by his second wife,Joyce, he is survived by his sister, HindaBrown, his daughters, Marilyn (lee) Harris,Susan (Steven) Kinderman, sons Jeffrey (BatSheva) Milgram, and Richard (Marla) Mil-gram; grandchildren, Jillian, Tate, Alex,Dovid, Miriam, Joey, Emily, Lauren and Car-oline; and 3 great grandchildren.     RONKINSheila Ronkin, 61, who worked to developmedicines that improve the lives of patientshas died. Dr. Ronkin, of Philadelphia andLongport, died September 25th of advancedcancer. Dr. Ronkin graduated from CherryHill High School East (1974), earned her BAin psychology at Cornell University (Ithaca,NY in 1978) and MD at UMDNJ-NJMS (Ne-wark, NJ in 1982). She was offered intern-ship and residency training in Obstetrics andGynecology at Temple University Hospitalafter the program director, in jest, consulteda current resident, showing him index cardswith photos of 5 qualified candidates for theprogram, asking, ‘Which of these should weaccept’? That resident, Dr. Andrew Gerson,selected her card, welcomed her to the pro-gram in July, 1982. They married (Oct, 1983)and became the parents of a daughter(Lyssa) in 1985 and a son (Alex) in 1991. Herhusband, daughter and son were always thecenter of her life. Dr. Ronkin completed a fel-lowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Jeffer-son University Hospital and directed and/orprovided maternity care, prenatal diagnosisand ultrasound imaging for pregnant womenfor over a decade at area hospitals includingJefferson, Hahnemann, Chester-Crozer, TheChester County Hospital and BrandywineHospital. While working and raising her fam-ily, Dr. Ronkin returned to school in 1996 andearned an MBA in strategic planning at HaubSchool of Business of St. Joseph’s Uni-versity. She happened to spot a MemorialDay Weekend employment ad in the Inquirerfor a position at Wyeth (Radnor, PA) for aMedical Director in Women’s Health andbegan a second career in Clinical Researchand Development. Over two decades, shecontributed in small or large ways, to devel-opment of a wide range of new medicines fornew indications and new indications for ap-proved medicines in multiple therapeuticareas. Pfizer acquired Wyeth in 2009 and shestayed with the company, advancing to therole of Vice President and Clinical Head forRare Diseases. Upon Pfizer’s reorganizationin 2016, she continued her work to bring newmedicines to physicians and their patientswith BioMarin, a California-based biopharma-ceutical innovator focusing on treatments forrare diseases driven by genetic causes. Shewas an avid reader, knitter, weaver, enjoyedtravel, took long walks through the streets ofPhiladelphia and was engaged in currentpolitical discourse. Dr. Ronkin is survived byher husband Dr. Andrew Gerson, daughterLyssa Gerson Guy (Nir Guy), son AlexanderGerson, and father Seymour Ronkin. Ethelis greatly missed by her 3 surviving children:Meryl (Michael Joblin), David (Mary Harris-on), Wendy (Alan Goldfuss). her 9 grandchil-dren (Evan, Alana, Jamie, Andy, Molly, Brett,Julie, Jewels, and Nathaniel), and her 13,soon to be 14 great grandchildren. A wonder-ful homemaker, who made dinner every nightalong with constant birthday and holiday cel-ebrations, she also became a reading therap-ist after her children were grown. In the late1970s, Ethel became an advocate for healthydiet and lifestyle, in order to ward off heartbypass surgery faced by her her husband,Russ. She was an active member ofWomen's American ORT and Hadassah,serving in many leadership roles and on theirboards. She was extremely well read and of-ten led book groups well into her 80's. Sheloved cultural and culinary events. Her heartand spirit were always open to family, friendsand even strangers as she was in the wordsof her friends, “the hostess with the most-ess”! She demonstrated the highest moralvalues and stressed the importance of educa-tion, volunteerism, Jewish practice and toler-ance. She was one of five fabulous femaleoctogenarians featured in “Bubbies in theBurbs”, a short documentary that was shownto Hadassah groups in PA and Florida. Bornin Philadelphia in 1929, Ethel married Robert"Russ" Harrison in 1948. They lived in Over-brook Park until 1960 with their 4 childrenand then moved to Havertown. At age 64,Ethel became a widow and moved to Latches'Lane condominium, where she resided untilher death October 12, 2017. She lived along, happy, mostly healthy, fiercely inde-pendent, vibrant, and involved existence untilthe last year of her life when the obstacles ofaging increased and diminished her quality oflife. We are blessed that she went quicklywithout suffering and are grateful for the timewe had with her and what we learned fromher about cherishing life's blessings. Hermemory is a blessing for all that knew her.Please join us on October 14 at Mount Shar-on.
