Shelf of Toys/Books/TrophiesOverview: Creating a shelf full of some of your favorite items Estimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, crayon/color pencil/marker/paintActivity Explanation: This activity will use your creativity to draw a big shelf of items from your room.Idea Examples: Don’t limit yourself to the list…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!

Start with a blank paper Draw a long empty shelf near the bottom of the page On the shelf – ADD drawings of items you treasure

(toys/books/trophies/something special from your room) Outline in a dark color and then add color to the items My example is below – I included a childhood teddy bear, Art

history book, my Warrior of the Year award from my gym, a container of brushes/pencil, and a Family plague

Nature ArtOverview: Creating a unique composition using NatureEstimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Items from Nature: Leaves, flowers, acorns, sticks, grass, tree bark, rocks, etc.Activity Explanation: This activity will use items from your yard to create a unique composition/design Idea Examples: Don’t limit yourself to the list…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!

Start with a Nature walk around your yard Take a small bag/box/bucket with you Collect items from your space that have unique

color/texture/shape Find a flat space (driveway/patio/deck) Lay out your found items, overlap them, connect them, see

what they can become SNAP a photo of your composition & email it to me!!!

Pattern-Filled OwlOverview: Creating a FUN, imaginary Owl using a variety of PATTERNSEstimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, crayon/color pencil/markerActivity Explanation: This activity will use your imagination and composition skills to draw and fill in a Pattern-filled Owl. Idea Examples: Don’t limit yourself to the list…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!

Start with a blank paper In pencil, lightly sketch out a BIG OWL – See examples below for

ideas – feel free to add/alter or create your own design, Don’t forget to think about BACKGROUND (is it day or night, is your owl awake or asleep)

Outline the Owl in a dark color crayon, color pencil, or marker Go back to using pencil and add patterns into the Owl’s

stomach, wings, head, tail. (Checkerboard, Polka Dot, Stripe, Tiger Print, Zebra Print, Chevron, etc.)

Color your patterns in BRIGHT fun colors, as the final step to complete your owl and don’t forget to color the background!

Picasso CatOverview: Creating a Pablo Picasso inspired CatEstimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, crayon/color pencil/markerActivity Explanation: This activity will have you using shapes to create a Picasso inspired CAT Idea Examples: Don’t limit yourself to the list…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!

Start with a blank paper Check out the Picasso Abstract Portrait below (Two views at

once, big and small features, shapes, and color not in real life) Think about a CAT & how you can create a Picasso Cat Draw in pencil, outline in a dark color crayon, color pencil, or

marker Then add color! I can’t wait to see your Cats – MEOW!!!!

Observational Drawing: Draw what you SEE!

Overview: Stay Inside or Go Outside and Draw what you seeEstimated Time: 20-25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil and a solid surface to draw upon (book or clipboard)Activity Explanation: This activity will help you become a good observer of the world around you.Idea Examples: Don’t limit yourself to the list…expand your vision and just draw…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!

Go outside and draw a tree with all the wonderful textures

Go outside and look up at the clouds rolling by and sketch out what you see in the formations (Look

closely as the clouds change and move-what else do you see?)

Go outside and draw your front or your back yard…yes…this is a Landscape!

Not outdoor weather…stay inside and draw your pet (if you have one) while it is sitting still or sleeping

No pet…how about sketch a picture of your sibling or parent

Need something that sits still…set up objects in your room (toys, shoes, cups, even a crumpled pair of socks will make a great subject for observing…etc) - this is a Still Life (because it sits still)

All About Me Art

Use lined paper and create a list of all things that make you UNIQUE! Favorite hobbies, sports, music, color, shapes, activities, teams, movies, books, etc.

Start with a blank page and start using ideas from your list – make things big/small, overlap, use words, & your creativity to make a unique artwork!

Add triangles for roofs, or leave buildings flat on top Add windows/doors Outline in a dark color crayon/color pencil, then add bright

colors to the buildings EXTRA – add a background (sky, is it night or day), add

curtains, people in the windows
