The main entrance to Jindalee State School from

Burrendah Road has undergone a transformation in recent months with the changing landscape of our school. The tall trees that were causing plumbing and drainage problems were removed and have now been replaced with shrubs and grass trees and the area has also had seating added to provide an attractive and functional entrance as well as a rest area during the day.

Over the next several months. the plants will become established and we will see them begin to grow during the summer months. In the space of twelve months, we expect to see the area well covered and some of the plants will eventually grow to two metres tall and others will provide good ground cover. The landscaping was

carried out by Jindalee Parent, Jo Wake, and her company Lime Design. The cost of the project has been funded through the Jindalee State School P&C Association. Thank you to everyone involved in the project including our schools

officer, Ken Hacker, who was involved in the project design and will ensure the garden is well looked after.

A Clever Future Today The Jindalee State School vision is “Creating a Clever

Future Today”. The purpose of our school vision is to allow us to focus on what it is we are achieving every day at our school. In 2009, our school community made a declaration that we would use innovation, creativity and a futures focus to become the community of tomorrow. Our vision is that community of tomorrow in action. Each day we have the choice about how we will create that clever

future for ourselves, each other, our school and our community. At Jindalee we are focused on teaching and learning. Education is the path to the future for all of our students. By creating opportunities for students to use modern technology in learning through the “bring your own device” (BYOD) project, we are demonstrating our futures orientation. Our vision is something that we can

choose to renew every day. Students, staff and parents can ask, “What am I going to do today and how will that create a clever future for me, my family, my friends and my community? ”

School Newsletter Upgrade Jindalee State School newsletter is to undergo an upgrade in the next few weeks thanks to our partnership with Schoolzine http://www.schoolzine.com.au/

Our newsletter with Schoolzine will transform our

previous newsletter format into a multi-functional, interactive platform that can be accessed wherever you have internet! It is the next amazing step from our last innovation when we produced a PDF copy of our print newsletter on our website. This new newsletter format is truly revolutionising the flow of information and communication between home, school and our

community. The newsletter will still carry all of the school, P&C and community news and photographs and parents, staff and community members will still be able to contribute articles and our amazing newsletter editor, Gail Dymock, will still weave her magic in preparing the articles and items for publication. The only thing to change will be the interactive nature of the newsletter

and the increase in available articles and access to information.

The first of the new newsletters will be published on Wednesday, 21 August, and will become a fortnightly publication instead of weekly. Next week, 7 August, will be the final of the weekly editions and Wednesday, 14 August, is the show holiday and no newsletter is

published.

Independent Public Schools The Queensland Government has invited thirty-four more state schools to join the independent public schools program to join the twenty-six chosen in 2012. There are many things to be considered before submitting an

application and there are some good reasons for Jindalee State School to consider its position. Independent Public Schools have a business model that brings about improved performance and Queensland principals, teachers, parents and local communities have greater control and ownership of their schools.

Independent Public Schools will benefit from:

• enhanced local governance

• opportunities for innovation

• locally tailored workforce • increased financial flexibility.

Our school will conduct some community consultation over the next few weeks to decide if it in our best interests. Expressions of interest are due by 30 August. Information on independent public schools can be found at the department’s website http://education.qld.gov.au/schools/independent-public-schools/

National Science Week National Science Week is an annual celebration of science in Australia. This

year it will be celebrated from 10-18 August and the theme for schools is A Century of

Australian Science. A Century of Australian Science will provide the opportunity to celebrate the contribution of scientists from across our nation and to highlight the people, including a remarkable number of Nobel Prize

winners, whose research and discoveries have helped transform the way we live.

Jindalee State School is looking forward to celebrating this event on Tuesday, 13 August. Science will be showcased throughout the school from lunchtime on this day. During lunch there will be a variety of scientific things to see and participate in around the school such as showcasing the work of the Lego and Robotics clubs.

Scientific experts in our own community will share their knowledge on astronomy and life sciences in small

workshops that children can attend. Teachers will be participating in a Brain Break morning tea on this day also. Keep on the lookout for the timetable on noticeboards around the school this week.

We invite any other parents or families in our community to share their own scientific knowledge on this day. If you have an idea for a short 10-15 minute scientific presentation that you think our students would be interested in, please email [email protected] with your suggestion; the more things to offer the better!

BYOD Information For parents who were unable to make it to the BYOD for 2014 Parent Information Nights, information is on the

school website under the ‘Curriculum’ tab or alternatively you can call Georgina Allardice at school on 3725 5777 for further information.

Piano for Sale Jindalee State School has a Yamaha (Uih p/E) 1978 piano for sale. The piano needs tuning and removal of the piano from the school would be at the purchaser’s expense. Please contact Justine at the school office on 3725 5777.

Photos - Sports, Music, Choir A reminder that photos are on Thursday, 1 August (tomorrow) for Sports, Music and Choir groups. Please see your class teacher for the timetable. Students are required to

bring their Sports, Music and Choir uniforms to school for the photos.

All Music Performance Groups -

Photos Thursday, 1 August (tomorrow)

Tomorrow, group photos of all our school’s Music

performance groups will be taken. We need your assistance in ensuring the success of these photos! All students in Music performance groups must wear their Music Performance uniforms for the photos and must bring their musical instrument to school, if they are a member of an instrumental group. (Students in Marimba bands will wear formal uniform or Year 7 uniform).

It is vital that students wear the full performance uniform: * Long black pants * Black shoes * White performance shirt * Black socks

Message from the Chaplain Last Monday was the Chappy Dinner at McDonalds Jindalee. A big thank you to all who attended the event and support

Chaplaincy right here at Jindalee State School. I am pleased to say that we managed to raise approximately $350! It was great to meet and greet so many families from Jindalee; I really appreciate your support! Centenary Rocks had their 10th annual festival over the weekend. It was great to see so many families

from Jindalee come and support the event. Did you manage to spot the Chappy tent at the festival? I will be away from Jindalee all of next week. I am attending the annual Chaplaincy State Conference where I will be with all of the other 600 or so Chaplains in Queensland. That’s a lot of Chaplains! St Catherine’s

Anglican Church (Macfarlane Street, MIDDLE PARK) run a Kids Club for children in grades 3 to 7 every Wednesday of the school term – 3.15pm to 5.00pm. If you would like more information, contact Gwen Neuendorf on 0417732240. Have a fantastic week and remember to stay safe! Joshua Green

Special Education Program Survey My role as Deputy Principal currently incorporates the Special Education Program. In order to obtain baseline

data, I am conducting a survey of the programs currently run by the school. This survey will ensure that the educational outcomes of students accessing the program are met, that current practices that are beneficial to students are maintained, whilst ensuring that evidence-based practices are implemented and that National Curriculum changes are embraced. Please complete the

parent survey by Friday, 9 August 2013. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me – Mary Heneghan on 3725 5735. Parent Survey Link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QXSDMGW

From P&C President With just over four and a half weeks until this years Fete, it's time to consider what you'll be able to do to help, either before hand, during or afterwards. People are needed on the Friday afternoon to set up tents, early on

the day to assist with prep and also the pack away on Sunday morning. If you're not the early starting type, stall convenors should now be sending lists around where you'll be able to volunteer for an hour or two. It's a great opportunity to meet other parents and care givers that you might not always be able catch up with.

Can't commit any time on fete day? Well there's always

the option of contributing your wares to one of the many stalls. Simply contact the stall convenor and find out how you can help. Ben Marczyk P&C President

Fete Preparations Two more of our convenor spots have been taken! A great big thanks to Narelle Murray and Kim Green. Narelle is keen to convene a stall for the first time and for those of you who don’t know, Kim Green was a JSS fete convenor for five years. There is one more spot available in our awesome team! We really need a Sea Shells Cent

Auction Convenor. As you will read in the fete newsletter, Sandy Weldon (PWF teacher) and Sam Wild McElroy (PWF Class Rep) are organising people to wrap prizes so we just need someone to organise volunteers beforehand and man the stall on the day. Please contact Kara if you are interested.

Donations required:
