I’ve walked into too many situations where I was on the outside, I was the new person, I didn’t know anyone there. All the inside jokes are lost on me, all the stories and references to things in the past fall on deaf ears. What do you do in that situation? Step into extrovert shoes and meet someone? Sit quietly and wait out the end of the event? Leave? What do you do if you’re on the inside? For a lot of people, walking into the church can be like the situa- tions above. There’s language and stories used that you’d have to be on the inside to understand. Have people walked away from the church, from this church, because the insiders weren’t sensitive enough to the outsiders? The letter written by Paul to the Ephesian church reminds us that we were once outsiders, we were once far away and brought near to God by Jesus. If we are going to contin- ue to live out the mission that God is calling His church to, we have to help those outside the faith come into the faith. We must allow the Spirit of God to open our minds and guide our steps much in the same way he did for Peter in Acts 10... Here at West Side we believe everyone has a next step, so as you worship today, consider the following as potential next steps for you: To spend more time listening to the Holy Spirit’s call, and to actually follow Him into the life of someone around me who needs Jesus. To get involved in more opportunities to serve and love others in the name of Jesus. To spend more time in personal spiritual disciplines (reading the Bible, praying, journaling, quiet time, Sabbath rest) so that when I come to church, I have something to offer out of the overflow of a healthy heart. These next steps are also the same as the next steps on the connection card so that you can take a copy home with you. When you’re an introvert, being on the outside can be difficult. I’ve walked into too many situations where I was on the outside, I was the new person, I didn’t know anyone there. To get involved in more opportunities to serve and love others in the name of Jesus.

To spend more time in personal spiritual disciplines (reading the Bible, praying, journaling, quiet time, Sabbath rest) so that when I come to church, I have something to offer out of the overflow of a healthy heart.
