Headline targets- ONE.

- To reduce the city of Manchester’s emissions of CO2 by 41% by 2020, from 2005 levels.

- This equates to a reduction of 3.2 million tonnes per annum to less than two million; it also equates to a reduction in per capita emissions from 7.3 tonnes to 4.3 tonnes per head.

- TWO.

- To engage all individuals, neighbourhoods and organisationsin Manchester in a process of cultural change that embeds ‘low-carbon thinking’ into the lifestyles and operations of the city.

Early actions for individuals- Save energy around the home.

- Reduce your car journeys, walk or cycle more.

- Complete the first of an annual home energy/carbon check that will help monitor progress against this plan.

- Take part in a city-wide programme to support consumers in choosing low-carbon goods and services.

- Support family, friends, neighbours and workplace to do the same.

Early actions for organisations- Endorse the approach of this plan, identifying actions appropriate to the organisation.

- Develop a delivery plan and set short and long-term targets – consistent with MACF so we can monitor progress against the plan.

- Start saving energy on buildings and transport.

- Consider the carbon impacts of goods and services your organisation uses. Assist employees, members, suppliers or consumers to do the same.

Developing delivery plans for concerted action- Retrofitting programme – domestic housing.

- Retrofitting programme – public and commercial buildings.

- Decentralised Energy Programme.

- Adaptation programme, including EcoCities.

- Local Transport Plan (LTP3) & LSTF

- Work on land and food.

- Education and training.

- Start work on Total Carbon Footprint (TCF) framework.

- Develop plan website to maximise shared good practice, ideas and contributions.

- Develop communication plans for stakeholder groups and annual events programme.

- Create templates for individuals and organisations to show how their plans contribute to this plan.

- Create visible public promotions so people can follow progress on carbon reduction.
