Dear parents, carers and community members, Welcome to week 5 we hope you all enjoyed Beef Week. Thank you to all staff and parents who joined us in the parade on Saturday or represented one of our Casino groups. Thank you to Miss Meagan and Mrs Wilder for all of your Beef Week activity organisation. At school we have been reflecting on how we can be safe, responsible and respectful learners in every setting and it is wonderful to see so many of our students demonstrating their skills in these areas. Our playground is much tidier as students show responsibility for eating under cover and putting their rubbish in the bin.Students SHOULD NOT be at school before 9.00am unless they have special permission (eg; Cedars students on a Friday). It has come to our attention that a number of students who walk to school are arriving before the supervised time of 9.00am. Could you please ensure your child does not arrive at school before this time as teachers are busy preparing lessons for the day and are not on playground duty.We have introduced an Attendance Rewards Day on Friday 28 June for all students who have greater than 90% attendance at school from Monday 13 May – Friday 28 June. This allows no more than three days away over this period. There will be a jumping castle for students with over 90% attendance. We also have a class award each week for the class with the best attendance. Last week Mrs Horne, Mr Matthews and Mrs Campbell’s class came a draw, all students in these classes received an icy pole today. I wonder who will win the attendance reward this week??Have a great week! Lesley Mills, Relieving Principal.

Reconciliation WeekMr Campbell has been busy filming staff, students & parents on the importance of reconciliation. This video will be part of our school’s resources on reconciliation. Thank you to everybody who were involved in the process.Students have also been busy decorating handprints with messages on them to put on our ‘Reconciliation Tree’ that Uncle Charlie Caldwell is making.

Our value this week is

PRESENCE

To be present when someone is speaking to you means giving them your full attention and listening carefully to what they are saying.

Being present is being aware of what is happening right now – not thinking about yesterday or tomorrow – but thinking, noticing and attentively being in the moment now.

“Focus on opportunities not setbacks. Focus on what you can do, not what you

can’t. Focus on the present moment, not the past or the future. Empower yourself!”

“Today is the first day of the rest of your life.”

A message from the A.E.O

This week’s PBL focus is being respectful during assemblies. Teachers will be providing classes with a clear understanding of expected Formal Assembly behavious. At these lessons they are reminded how to walk into the hall or assemble in undercover area, sit, listen and display expected behavious during an assembly and leave respectfully with the class teacher. Mrs Tami Chadderton Stage 3 Assistant Principal.

A special mention especially goes to Jaylarni and Melaya who were both named player of the match for their respective stage. Message from Bulgarr Ngaru Medical Aboriginal Corporation The Aboriginal Medical Service in Casino are offering Casino West Primary School Aboriginal students a school based flu vaccination program for 2019. If you would like your child and/or children vaccinated please sign and return this consent form to the school.Free influenza (flu) vaccine is recommended for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals aged 6 months and older as they are at increased risk of influenza and its complications.Children can be immunised against the flu from 6 months of age. Getting your child immunised is the best way to protect them against influenza and its potentially serious complications.Children younger than 9 years of age should have 2 doses of vaccine at least 4 weeks apart in the first year they are vaccinated. They will need only one dose each year after that. Children older than 9 years require only one dose of the influenza vaccine.THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW• Influenza vaccine can never give you the flu. The

vaccine does not contain any live virus. • The influenza vaccine is generally well tolerated but

you should stay close by for 15 minutes – so we can keep an eye on you for the first few minutes after your vaccination.

• Like all medicines, this vaccine may have some side-effects. These are usually very mild and do not last for long. If you feel anything that worries you, call your doctor for advice.

• Some people report redness or discomfort at the site of the injection; this should disappear within a few days.

• Some people report mild fever and muscle pains or feel generally unwell for one or two days after the vaccination. These flu-like symptoms do not mean you have the flu. They are most likely to be your body’s natural response to the vaccine.

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding please discuss influenza vaccination with your healthcare professional.

• IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS Talk to your doctor or healthcare professional.
