Is there a faster way?

Yes! Total Commander

• A file manager which displays two panels

• Same functionality as Windows Explorer [copy, cut, paste, delete, rename, etc.]

• …but easier to use and more powerful

Also:

• Very popular in many parts of the world

• Multi-language: e.g. Chinese, Russian, Romanian, Indonesian, etc

#1 TC – Save Space on Screen (1)

• To copy a file from one folder to another

• In Windows Explorer we usually open twice ‘My Computer”, one for source place and one for the destination:

#1 TC – Save Space on Screen (2)

To copy a file from one folder to another

• TC comes already with two panels, which occupy less room than two instances of “My Computer” [Windows Explorer]

#1 TC – Save Space on Screen (3)

• TC can help organize file info better, by displaying Folder Tabs. Folder Tabs offer two main advantages:

• Save “real estate” on screen,

• Increase productivity: navigate easier back & forth among the folders used frequently. TC “remembers” which tabs were left open last time, so we don’t need to open them again each morning

#2 TC – Productivity (1)

• History: each tab keeps a history of visited places, making easy to navigate back to a certain place

#2 TC – Productivity (2)

Multiple renaming: Format file names + append their last update [useful for versioning]:

E.g.: bradut s.jpg -> Bradut S - 20111108.jpg

Anonymise file names:E.g.: bradut s.jpg -> Image 1.jpg

#2 TC – Productivity (3)

Synchronize directories [folders]:

• Easily compare files from two folders to see which ones are newer or of different sizes. Useful when multiple people share documents in a common folder but also work on copies kept on their personal folders.

#2 TC – Productivity (4)

Enhanced Search:

e.g. show all files which…

• On drive(s): T:

• Of type: PDF

• Contain words: “Steve Jobs”

• Updated within: last year

#3 TC - Transformer

• TC can display a Windows Explorer interface, with tree navigation panels:

#4 TC – For Heavy Users

• Built-in Files Zip/Unzip for ZIP, ARJ, LZH, RAR, UC2, TAR, GZ, CAB, ACE archive handling

• Fast navigation within folders by using keyboard

• Quick View panel: can visualize in one panel the content of files selected in the other one

• Add/Display comments to files

• Encrypt text files

For heavy users

• Command line window [so that users can type in commands like in MS DOS or UNIX]

• FTP client with FXP (server to server) and HTTP proxy support

• Network configuration [map drives, set permissions, etc]

• Plugins to extend functionality:

• Browse websites

• Read Email

• Search and transfer files from iPhone

• Display content from specific files: AutoCAD, MS Word, Excel , DBF, Flash
