Feb. 28 Salsa barocca Latin American music from folk to Baroque! Guitarist Sylvie Proulx leads this lively ensemble of vocal and instrumental arrangements from motets to tangos.

Mar. 06 Scruncheons Percussion ensemble The Scruncheons take to the stage with a riveting program of classic works for percussion, as well as world premieres written by the group’s own members. A little fun for everyone!

Mar. 13 blow Out: a Celebration of Trumpet at Memorial Local trumpet alumni, Terry Campbell, Jill Dawe and Katie Sullivan along with professor emeritus Donald Buell and recently appointed high brass professor Alan Klaus, invite you to an evening dedicated to celebrating the trumpet at Memorial University’s School of Music.

Mar. MUN Opera Workshop 22-23 MUN Opera Workshop presents fully staged opera productions ranging from Mozart

Both pianist and painter, Quilico will project images of her paintings inspired by the music and the composer’s synaesthetic ‘visions’ as part of her performance.

Featuring some of the city’s finest improvisers: Jean Derome, Joane Hétu (saxophones), Pierre Tanguay (drums), Diane Labrosse (electronics), Scott Thomson (trombone) and Martin Tetrault (turntables).

OCT. 25 Duo Concertante: beethoven, brahms & beyond Duo Concertante celebrate the recent release of the complete Beethoven sonatas for violin and piano with a concert showcasing works by Brahms, Bartók, Jocelyn Morlock and of course Beethoven.

Ora Ensemble promises a provocative 100th anniversary tribute in this two piano version with dance and visual art. Krista Vincent is joined by pianist Simon Docking, director Nicole Rousseau, choreographer Lynn Panting, and performance artist Liz Solo.

NOV. 21 Taking Flight! The MUN Brass Ensemble performs music from Disney’s Planes, Eric Ewazen’s epic Symphony in Brass, and a brand new piece by student composer Tony Taylor.

NOV. 22 Fandango American trombonist Timothy Dueppen joins MUN faculty artists Alan Klaus, trumpet, and Kristina Szutor, piano. Program highlights include the premiere of a new work by Clark Ross and a performance of Turrin’s dramatic Fandango with the MUN Wind Ensemble.

JaN. 18 release the rhythms! Rob Power releases his debut CD of original percussion music, along with guest percussionists Bill Brennan, Erin Donovan, Whitney Rowe, and The Scruncheons.

JaN. 27 Larry Vine and Friends Larry Vine, virtuoso principal horn of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, presents music for horn and piano, horn quartet, and brass quintet.

second year to co-direct Newfound XI, featuring music by composer-in-residence Jocelyn Morlock, alongside 21st century works performed by faculty and students.

SePT. 21 a Little Light Music Soprano Jane Leibel presents contemporary songs for soprano, cello and piano by composers John Greer, Seymour Barab and André Previn, in styles that range from lush Romanticism to whimsical humor.

SePT. 28 Christina Petrowska Quilico, piano Rhapsodies and Fantasias by Constantine Caravassilis are visions in sound, transcending lyrical poetry to passionate drama in an opera for the keyboard. Both pianist and painter, Quilico will project images of her paintings inspired by the music and the composer’s synaesthetic ‘visions’ as part of her performance.

OCT. 10 Flute vs Flute Flutists Michelle Cheramy and Jack Chen team up to showcase the expressive range of the flute, from traditional classics to new, rock-inspired works and the NL premiere of Andrew Staniland’s “Flute vs Flute.”

OCT. 22 ensemble Supermusique The “rare birds” of Montreal’s musique actuelle scene return to St. John’s to play contemporary music for adventurous ears. Featuring some of the city’s finest improvisers: Jean Derome, Joane Hétu (saxophones), Pierre Tanguay (drums), Diane Labrosse (electronics), Scott Thomson (trombone) and Martin Tetrault (turntables).

OCT. 24 Spectrolite ensemble Fresh from making their debut recording, MUN Alumni Sean Rice (clarinet) Patrick Cashin (piano), and Vernon Regehr (cello) perform trios by Beethoven, Zemlinsky and Roberto Sierra.

OCT. 25 Duo Concertante: beethoven, brahms & beyond Duo Concertante celebrate the recent release of the complete Beethoven sonatas for violin and piano with a concert showcasing works by Brahms, Bartók, Jocelyn Morlock and of course Beethoven.

NOV. 02 rites Stravinsky’s infamous ballet Rite of Spring caused a riot at its 1913 premiere. Ora Ensemble promises a provocative 100th anniversary tribute in this two piano version with dance and visual art. Krista Vincent is joined by pianist Simon Docking, director Nicole Rousseau, choreographer Lynn Panting, and performance artist Liz Solo.

NOV. 03 From russia… The MUN Chamber Orchestra welcomes the 2012 concerto competition winner pianist Jennifer Benson to the stage to perform Shostakovich’s concerto No. 2, which we’ll pair with his powerful String Quartet no. 8.

NOV. 08 Classics Old and New Explore the passionate and the ethereal with the Exorior Duo and friends. The program features Mendelssohn’s classic D minor piano trio in an authorized version with flute, and modern works by Chen, Larsen and Staniland that just might become classics themselves!

NOV. 21 Taking Flight! The MUN Brass Ensemble performs music from Disney’s Planes, Eric Ewazen’s epic Symphony in Brass, and a brand new piece by student composer Tony Taylor.

JaN. 18 release the rhythms! Rob Power releases his debut CD of original percussion music, along with guest percussionists Bill Brennan, Erin Donovan, Whitney Rowe, and The Scruncheons.

second year to co-direct Newfound XI, featuring music by composer-in-residence Jocelyn Morlock, alongside 21st century works performed by faculty and students.
