The solar System

There are nine planets in the solar system. Mercury is the smallest planet, but Jupiter is the biggest. Mercury is the coldest planet to the sun, but Pluto is the furthest. All the planets go around the sun. The sun is not a planet, it’s a star. We live on Earth. Earth is called “blue planet” because it has an atmosphere. We can live on Earth bur we cannot live on Pluto because Pluto has no atmosphere. Mars is the closest plant to us. The sun is made out of mostly hydrogen and helium. The sun is about 93 million miles away from Earth. The temperature at the core of the sun is approximately 25 million degrees Fehrenheit. In the core fusion is taking place, this is the proses that causes all the energy and heat.

Date:___________________________Reading Exercises

1. Read the poem underneath. Practise your reading so that you will be able to read it fluently without struggling.

The Rocket

I built a rocket, yes I did.

I built a rocket, big and red,

Dad and I, we built it big.

We built a rocket in my bedroom,

We finished the rocket yesterday noon.

Today it’s suppose to carry us to the moon

The rocket is made of boxes, sheets, and word.

It seems so big and amazing, but it really should.

It’s finally finished, and over there it stood.

The rocket has two switches, windows and dials.

It is filled with blankets, clothes, and things that make me smile,

Within is everything that might be needed by a brave child.

We built a rocket, just my dad and me.

I know its just play and make-believe,

So, maybe we’ll even let my little sister come and see…

We built a rocket, a father and his son

It has been such a ton of fun!

Someday we may built another one!

2. Read the information about the outer planets.
