CHAPTER ONE

1.0 INTRODUCTION

Between a divine being and human, there is always a link for worship and

communication. That link is the ALTAR Gen 8:20, Gen 12:8. Altar is a place of

offering worship of a divine being or deity. Old Testament the Hebrew word for

altar that is used most frequently in the Old Testament is formed from the verb for

slaughter and means literally, “slaughter place.” Ezra 7:17. The worship of a deity

(whether God as the case of Christians or other god) cannot be devoid of altars either

physically or otherwise.

It must be noted that the word ALTAR appears 374 times throughout Scripture.

Altars appear 55 times.

This study seeks to give us an understanding of the different kinds of altar available.

There are those that are built for our good and some to the contrary. May God bless

us as we study together in Jesus' name (Amen).

1.1 BACKGROUND STTUDY

The worship of God via the altar dates back to the times of Noah Gen 8:20, before

then, worship were offered but not with altars like in the case of Cain and Abel Gen

4:3-4 and the seem to be a sharp difference in response of God to the Abel offering

Gen 4:3-4 and the Noah offering, Gen 8:20-21.

While animals were a common sacrifice in the Old Testament, altars were also used

to sacrifice grain, fruit, wine, and incense. The grain and fruit sacrifices were offered

as a tithe of the harvest or as representative first fruits of the harvest. Wine was

offered along with animal and bread sacrifices. Incense was burned on altars to

purify after slaughtering and to please God with sweet fragrance.

1:2 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The aims and objectives of the study is to take an holistic look at the word ALTAR

as recorded in the bible

This study seeks to give us an understanding of the different kinds of altar available.

There are those that are built for our good and some to the contrary.

Altars were used primarily as places of sacrifice, especially animal sacrifice.

The scope of the study is based on and limited to the Holy Bible.

2.0 LITERATURE REVIEW

“And Noah built an altar unto the LORD, and took of every clean beast, and

every clean fowl, and offered burnt offering on the altar. And the LORD

smelled a sweet savour and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse

the ground any more for man’s sake, for the imagination of man’s heart is evil

from his youth neither will I again smite any more every living, as I have done”.

Gen 8:20-21.

Noah’s action in this portion heralded the Altar worship, nowhere was the word altar

found before this portion of the bible. Noah offered a special kind of sacrifice,

special not in the sense that of the materials used in the offering, though important,

but special in that it was offered on an ALTAR. When Abel offered his offering, the

Bible said God has respect unto Abel and his offering Gen 4:4

“And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof.

And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering”

but unto the sacrifice offered on an ALTAR the Bible said

”And the LORD smelled a sweet savour and the LORD said in his heart, I will

not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake, for the imagination of

man’s heart is evil from his youth neither will I again smite any more every

living, as I have done” Gen8:21.

Offering on the ALTAR made God to vow “The LORD said in his heart”

And that marked the era offering of sacrifice on the ALTAR.

2.1 DEFINITION OF ALTERS AND RELATED TERMS

What is an ALTAR?

According to Webster dictionary

Altar is a raised structure (as a square or oblong erection of stone or wood) on

which sacrifices are offered or incense burned to a deity

ALTAR is a table (usually stone) for people to burn animal and other gifts as a

sacrifice to God or false gods; a high table with a flat top to put a sacrifice on to

God or a false god; the 'holy table'

The part of a church, often at the front where the priest or ministers stands.

Hebrew word for altar: “mizbe'ah,” “mizbeach” (pron onced: miz-bay'-akh),

meaning “an altar” from a word meaning “to slay;”

Greek word for altar: “thusiasterion,” (pronounced: thoo-see-as-tay'-ree-on")

meaning a place of sacrifice, i.e., an altar.

Biblical altars were generally structures of earth (Ex. 20:24) or of stones that

had not been hewn (20:25). Altars were generally erected in conspicuous places

(Gen. 22:9; Ezek. 6:3; 2 Kings 23:12; 16:4; 23:8; Acts 14:13).

High place: Meaning: an eminence, natural or artificial, where worship by sacrifice

or offerings was made (1 Kings 13:32; 2 Kings 17:29). The first altar after the Flood

was built on a mountain (Gen. 8:20). Abraham also built an altar on a mountain

(12:7, 8).

Sacrifice: is anything consecrated and offered to God, or to a divinity; an immolated

victim, or an offering of any kind, laid upon an altar, or otherwise presented in the

way of religious thanksgiving, atonement, or conciliation.

The offering up of sacrifices is to be regarded as a divine institution. It did not

originate with man. God himself appointed it as the mode in which acceptable

worship was to be offered to him by guilty man. The language and the idea of

sacrifice pervade the whole Bible.

Sacrifice is synonymous with the word ALTAR for where there is sacrifice there

must of necessity be an ALTAR.

Sacrifices were of two kinds:

1) Non bloody, such as (1) first-fruits and tithes; (2) meat and drink-offerings;

and (3) incense.

2) Bloody, such as (1) burnt-offerings; (2) peace-offerings; and (3) sin and

trespass offerings.

Offering: offering is an oblation, dedicated to God . Thus Cain consecrated to God

of the first-fruits of the earth, and Abel of the firstlings of the flock (Gen. 4:3-4).

Under the Levitical system different kinds of offerings are specified, and laws laid

down as to their presentation. These are described under their distinctive names.

2.2 ALTAR IN THE OLD TASTAMENT

An Altar is a place of prayer or worship of God or gods. It is a contact place with the

spirit or spiritual world. It is a place of discussion, dialogue, communication with the

spiritual powers. It is a place of spiritual sacrifice or of making of covenants. God

blesses His people at the altar of prayer. The foundation for a successful Christian

life and ministry is rooted in the altar of prayer. Gen. 8:20-22; Gen. 12:8; Luke

24:49.

“And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and

pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he

builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD”.

Gen 12:8. In the Old Testament, an altar is used to be built on the land where you

could kindle fire and burn the animal offered in sacrifice while animals were a

common sacrifice in the Old Testament; altars were used to sacrifice grain, fruit,

wine and incense. God smells the aroma from it as the burnt sacrifice ascends unto

Him and thereby comes to grant the requests of those who had built the altar and

offered sacrifices on it In the book of genesis it is often said that alters were erected

(Gen 8:20; 12:7; 13:8; 25; 33; 20)

“And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this

land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him”.

Gen 12:7.

These altars were usually heaps of stones such as Lebam and Jacob built to sacrifice

upon.

The Old Testament alters were made of several materials which include stones (Gen

31:52, Ex 20:25,) Shittim wood. Ex 27:41, rock, Islam 14:33-34 judges 13:19, 6:26,

Horn1kings 1:50-51, Brass 2Chron 4:1, 1kings 8:64 etc. Golden, bronze alter

Ex27:1-8. The alter for the tabernacle according To Ex27 is made up of woods it

was five cubit square and three cubit high it had a grating or network below(verse 4)

and a ledge(verse 5) intended perhaps for the priest to stand upon. It had horns at the

corners and also four brazen rings in which to insert poles for carrying it.

The utensils for it are pans for clearing away ashes shovels basins or saucers for

catching blood flesh hooks and five –pans for removing coal. According to Lev 6:12

fire was to burn on it perpetually.

2.3 ALTAR IN THE NEW TASTAMENT

In the New Testament, an altar is that place of contact with God; you are no longer

commanded to build physical altar but spiritual ones of prayer, praises and worship

unto God. Our worship to God now is in and through the Spirit. John 4: 24

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in

truth”.

These altars may be in our bedrooms, our gardens, a mountain top, etc. Meet God

regularly at a particular place or location at a definite time JESUS CHRIST is

considered as the ultimate sacrifice that puts us right with God and is ever making

intercession for us. And as such we do not require any further sacrifice of material

things to make atonement for our sins. Heb. 10:1-14, 19-25; Heb. 13:9-15. John 4:

24, Heb 10:5-8

“Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering

thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and

sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the

volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Above when he

said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou

wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law”

What we require now is offering unto God fervent praises, worship, prayers,

supplications unto God in spirit and in truth John 4 : 24) "God is a Spirit: and they

that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth

Luke 18:1

“And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray

and not to faint”.

Jesus talked the new ALTAR in Jn. 4:19-24; Matt. 6:5-13; Lk. 18:1; and James, the

Apostle in Jam. 5:16-18.

Jesus Himself carried out this practice as we see in Mark 1:35.

He had an altar raised to God in the wilderness Mark 1:35

“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and

departed into a solitary place, and there prayed”.

Without an altar you cannot make progress in the school of prayer.

New Testament examples include the following:

I. Jesus and the disciples at the mount of transfiguration. Mt. 17:1-9

II. Jesus at the garden of Gethsemane. Mt. 26:36-46

III. The disciples at the upper room. Acts. 1:4, 8, 12-14; 2:1-4

IV. Fellowship gathering of disciples after persecution. Act 4:21-31

V. Peter at Joppa housetop. Acts 10:9-20

VI. Disciples at the church in Antioch. Acts 13:1-3

VII. Paul and Silas in the prison at Philippi. Acts 16:23-26

CHAPTER THREE

3.0 ALTARS

ALTAR is a structure used in worship as the place for presenting sacrifices to God

or gods. Old Testament the Hebrew word for altar that is used most frequently in the

Old Testament is formed from the verb for slaughter and means literally, “slaughter

place.” Altars were used primarily as places of sacrifice, especially animal sacrifice.

While animals were a common sacrifice in the Old Testament, altars were also used

to sacrifice grain, fruit, wine, and incense. The grain and fruit sacrifices were offered

as a tithe of the harvest or as representative first fruits of the harvest. They were

presented in baskets to the priest who set the basket before the altar (Deuteronomy

26:2-4). Wine was offered along with animal and bread sacrifices. Incense was

burned on altars to purify after slaughtering and to please God with sweet fragrance.

From the beginning the Lord’s people uses ALTAR worship, praise, prayer, and

communication with God.

The word altar is used in Hebrews 13:10 for the sacrifice offered upon it—the

sacrifice Christ offered

“We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the

tabernacle”.

THE FIRST ALTAR specifically mentioned in the Bible is the one erected by Noah

(Gen. 8:20), although we assume that Adam and the pre-Flood patriarchs also used

altars for their sacrifices. Altars were erected by Abraham (Gen. 12:7; 13:4; 22:9),

by Isaac (Gen. 26:25), by Jacob (33:20; 35:1, 3), and by Moses (Ex. 17:15,

“Jehovah-nissi”).

TWO TABERNACLE AND TEMPLE ALTARS

In the tabernacle, and afterwards in the temple, two altars were erected.

1. THE ALTAR OF BURNT OFFERING (Ex. 30:28), called also the “brazen

altar” (Ex. 39:39) and “the table of the Lord” (Mal. 1:7)

DESCRIPTION: This altar, as erected in the tabernacle, is described in Ex. 27:1-8. It

was a hollow square, 5 cubits in length and in breadth, and 3 cubits in height. It was

made of shittim wood, and was overlaid with plates of brass. Its corners were

ornamented with “horns” (Ex. 29:12; Lev. 4:18).

UTENSILS—In Ex. 27:3 the various utensils used at the altar are listed. They were

made of brass. (Compare 1 Sam. 2:13-14; Lev. 16:12; Num. 16:6-7.)

TEMPLE ALTAR—In Solomon’s Temple (the first Temple) the altar was larger (2

Chr. 4:1. Compare 1 Kings 8:22, 64; 9:25), and was made completely of brass,

covering a structure of stone or earth.

RESTORATIONS—This altar was renewed by Asa (2 Chr. 15:8). It was removed

by Ahaz (2 Kings 16:14), and “cleansed” by Hezekiah, in the latter part of whose

reign it was rebuilt. It was finally broken up and carried away by the Babylonians

(Jer. 52:17).

After the return from captivity it was re-erected (Ezra 3:3, 6) on the same place

where it had formerly stood. When Rome’s Antiochus Epiphanes pillaged Jerusalem

the altar of burnt offering was taken away.

Again the altar was erected by Herod, and remained in its place till the destruction of

Jerusalem by the Romans (70 A.D.).

FIRE—The fire on the altar was not permitted to go out (Lev. 6:9).

2. THE ALTAR OF INCENSE (Ex. 30:1-10), called also “the golden altar”

(39:38; Num. 4:11), stood in the holy place “before the vail that is by the ark of the

testimony.”

INCENSE: On this altar sweet spices were continually burned with fire taken from

the brass altar. The morning and the evening services were begun by the high priest

offering incense on this altar. The burning of the incense was a type of prayer (Ps.

141:2; Rev. 5:8; 8:3-4).

SIZE AND CONSTRUCTION : This altar was a small movable table, made of

acacia wood overlaid with gold (Ex. 37:25-26). It was 1 cubit in length and breadth,

and 2 cubits in height. In Solomon’s temple, the altar was similar in size, but was

made of Cedarwood (1 Kings 6:20; 7:48) overlaid with gold. In Ezek. 41:22 it is

called “the altar of wood.” (Compare Ex. 30:1-6.)

In the temple built after the Exile the altar was restored. Antiochus Epiphanes took it

away, but it was later restored by Judas Maccabaeus (1 Macc. 1:23; 4:49). Among

the trophies carried away by Titus on the destruction of Jerusalem the altar of

incense is not found, nor is any mention made of it in Hebrews 9. It was at this altar

Zacharias ministered when an angel appeared to him (Luke 1:11). It is the only altar

which appears in the heavenly temple (Isa. 6:6; Rev. 8:3-4).

3.1 TYPES OF ALTARS

As positive altars are raised to bless people and lands (Ex. 20:24; Gen. 8:20-22).

Negative Altars are raised for a contrary ministry; to curse, to afflict and destroy

people and destinies.

This study seeks to give us an understanding of the different kinds of altar available.

There are those that are built for our good and some to the contrary.

There are basically two types of altar, namely;

1. ALTAR OF GOD OR POSITIVE ALTARS (Ex. 20:24; Gen. 8:20-22).

2. EVIL ALTARS OR NEGATIVE ALTARS (Ezek. 8:16-18; Acts 23:12-13)

3.1.1 EVIL ALTARS

WHAT IS AN EVIL ALTAR?

EVIL ALTAR is an operational base of powers of darkness and satanic

intermediaries. Simply put, an altar is a high place, shrine or a place of meeting

between men and spirits – a place of contact with the spirit world.

. A negative altar is a high place, shrine, occultic centre, a place of meeting between

men and spirits - a place of contact with the spirit world; a place of sacrifice and

invocation of evil spirits. It's a place of monitoring the progress of people, to

understand and control people. It is a place of intimidation. Ezek. 8:16-18; Acts

23:12-13.

“And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD's house, and, behold, at

the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were

about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD,

and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east”.

Other examples include the following:

1. Sculptured Image Altars: This altar is made in such a way that a sculptured

image representation of an individual which looks like the person, is pinned to the

wall or put in a shrine which is an altar.

2. Pictorial Altars: This is a photographic image of a person, pinned to a wall inside

the shrine or before an altar. It may be a wedding or family picture or an individual

picture. Once it is pinned to the wall, evil spirits are conjured to go and look for that

person anywhere in the world to afflict and torment him. This is called a pictorial

altar.

3. Name Altars: Name altars are people’s names taken before certain sacred spots,

places, rooms or shrines. The priest at the altar mentions the name regularly before

the gods making incantations to afflict the person whose name has been brought to

the shrine.

4. Crystal Ball Altars: The crystal ball is roundish, like a ball, and whatever these

people want to divine can be seen in the ball. They can divine the future of the

person from the crystal ball, and they can conjure the image of a person in the crystal

ball and possibly shoot or afflict the person in the crystal ball. All these emblems are

placed inside some sacred places where demons regularly traffic, where sacrifices

would have been made and the presence of demons and demonic anointing is usually

high.

5. Ouija Boards: Ouija Boards are what satanic priests like magicians as satanists

and cultists use for their evil purposes. The Ouija board has a lot of things on it like

a chess board. You can play with somebody’s life by manipulating the objects on the

board.

6. Box Altars/ CLONES: This is a satanic ‘juju’ box which when opened after very

serious incantations and demonic invocations, can bring forth the image of the

individual to be afflicted.

7. Marine Altars/Water spirits : Marine altars are built in rivers, the sea, dams, or

any body of water. Names and images of people can be dropped into various bodies

as well as images of people. And as long as the water covers that object, the progress

of the individual concerned will remain covered.

8. Forest Altars: Forest altars are shrines situated in the forests. They are sacred

spots in the forest where you have very mysterious trees, under which the priests of

the forest altars worship and do a lot of sacrifices.

9. Body Parts Representation Before Altars: Body parts from people have been

commonly used as a means to afflict people. By body parts we refer to such things

as urine, hairs, feaces, fingernails, menstrual pads, etc.

That is one reason why women have to be careful about how they dispose of their

menstrual pads.

10. Clothing Altars: They can take clothing to altars. That is why we must be very

careful about our clothes. Everything that has contact with our bodies or which are

from our bodies, can be taken to these places

and then used to afflict.

11. Astral Altars: Astral altars are heavenly bodies like the stars, the moon, the sun,

the constellation to which men can speak. In the Book of

Judges Chapter 5:20, Deborah, the prophetess, spoke words to the heavenly bodies

when she was fighting alongside with Barak against Sisera and the enemies that

attacked the people of God. The Word says, “They fought from heaven; the stars

in their courses fought against Sisera”.

3.2 ACTIVITIES OF EVIL ALTARS

Here are a few indications. Some of what we suffer in life can come as a result of

curses or spells, and some as a result of ancestral covenants. An altar is the

satanic operational headquarters where a lot of negative things are released

against the lives of men, women and children.

1. Regular, Repeated Tragedies and Delayed Blessings: If a person has a regular,

repeated tragedy, maybe at a point he ought to pass an examination, that is the

time he normally falls sick or have accidents, an altar may be in operation.

2. Periodic Sickness: You have come to know yourself that when it is raining

season, something will happen to you. If it is regular and can be monitored, then you

must know that an altar is against your life.

3. Compulsive Actions (Irrational behaviour): You may be the kind of person that

is very gentle, a humble person, but all of a sudden you just discover that after

somebody’s visit to your home, you stopped seeing eye to eye with your spouse and

once in a while you just get mad with him/her, and physically attack/get beaten up

4. Death Wish and Suicidal Tendencies: This was the kind of th ing that happened

to Elijah after Jezebel had cast a spell on him. She had said she would kill Elijah.

She probably went to her altar and started working on the prophet. From that

day on, the man of God lost his balance.

5. Abnormal Losses: Your money just disappears mysteriously or even the hair on

your head is disappearing without any explanation! Though you were not aware of

anybody stealing from you, you have losses all the same. This may be the influence

and action of evil spirits from the altar.

6. Inexplicable Discouragements: Do you just sit down feeling depressed? You

look around and say, “why me”, even when things may be going fine with you.

Can you imagine a man like Elijah who had just brought down fire on Mount

Carmel, a man who had just caused a sudden revival in Israel, the man who had just

brought rain after three and a half years of famine and drought, who had just brought

rain by prayer and the next minute, sitting down under a juniper tree, sleeping and

wishing for a quick death to end it all?

7. Suspicions: Negative altars cause you to suspect people. You may have dreams

about people or the enemy just suddenly makes you to begin to suspect people. They

may not be the people who are behind your problem but because of the altar

influence, you begin to suspect people and live in fear.

8. Mysterious Body Marks: You sleep at night and by the time you wake up; you

discover that all kinds of marks and lacerations have been made on your body. This

is the work of evil spirits from hell to tamper with your blood and health.

9. Terrible Nightmares: You have terrible nightmares where you dream that they

throw you from a big mountain down into the va lley below, or they take you from a

bridge or cliff and drop you into a big river. It may be that in your dream you just

find yourself falling , or somebody shoots at you or pierces you with a knife or

whips you.

10. Hearing Abnormal but Familiar Sounds or Voices: Maybe you are walking

and all of a sudden, you stand still and hear your name being called distinctly at a

distance without any visible person calling it. If you reply or you answer, you may

be a dead man or go insane.

3.3 PURPOSE OF EVIL ALTARS

1. Altars are used to make contact with the Spirit World (Genesis 8:20-21):

Sacrifices are made at the altars in order to make contact with the spirit world, with

demons, (evil spirits) and territorial powers. In the Old Testament, the people of

God erected or built altars in order to make contact with the Living God, Jahweh the

Elohim.

2. An Altar is a Place of Invocation of Evil Spirits (Genesis 12:8):

An altar is a place for invoking evil spirits, once the necessary sacrifices have been

made. Sacrifices are tokens given to the demons to request for their assistance in

afflicting people. No witch will fight you physically; no wizard will take you on

physically, they do it spiritually. And all they do at the altar is to invoke evil spirits

for help after giving them token sacrifices.

3. Altars are used to Monitor the Progress of People:

Once your name has been submitted at an altar or your image is there or they are

using a crystal ball or a satanic mirror to monitor you, wherever you are, they can

influence your life. Whether you are in Saudi Arabia, Britain or Japan does not

matter. Once they call your name and your name or image appears on the crystal

ball, they can see how far you have gone, the progress you are making and then

they can begin to hinder you.

4. Altars are also used to Determine a Person’s Spiritual Level:

An altar is used to know who an individual is. Your spiritual ability, whether you are

powerful and prayerful or not, can be monitored from the altar. They can know if

you have potential for success or not or whether they should waste their

ammunitions on you or not. Satanic people also use the altar to know people’s

moral weaknesses in order to understand how to attack these people.

5. Altars are used to control People:

This type of control can be in the form of sickness. Once your name or your image

is at the altar, if you are trying to rise up in life, your enemies can give you a little

sickness to shoot you down. Anything can happen to you since your entire life is

under the altar’s control. You cannot do what you want to do. You cannot go where

you want to go. This is typical of how a generational curse operates.

6. Altars are used to Intimidate:

Intimidation comes when you begin to have nightmares or when you are living

under an undue fear. Some people normally fear their parents, even though they are

grown up enough to take decisions on their own. But because altars have been built

against their lives, whenever they are to take any major decision, they find it difficult

because they fear their parents.

7. Altars are used to Afflict:

Many of the afflictions we have in our contemporary society whether in a form of

barrenness, limitations in life, severe afflictions that remain in spite of prescribed

medications and prayers, trouble that will not go away, repeated, regular trouble,

maybe with law enforcement agencies, etc, all come as a result of some altars of

affliction in existence somewhere.

8. Altars are used to Destroy People:

The end result of every altar of affliction in a life of a man is his destruction. Little

wonder then, the Bible says in John 10:10 that, “The thief does not come except to

steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” Satan is a destroyer and he uses satanic

priesthood and men at the altar to destroy people.

3.4 MINISTERS OF EVIL ALTARS

Who can build an Altar?

An anointed priests or somebody who has authority. Someone who represents

another with authority. Someone with a mandate and a spiritual connection.

EXAMPLE Balaam. Num. 23:1

“And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here

seven oxen and seven rams”.

For Whom Do You Raise An Altar?

For a particular nation, community, people or person. It may be those you like or

those you do not like. You raise up altars against them using their names. In the

Old Testament period, if you wanted to destroy, frustrate or afflict someone, all you

needed to do was to raise an altar using the name of that person and you would

achieve your goal.

3.5 HOW TO DEAL WITH EVIL ALTARS

1. Recognize their Existence.

2. Know why they exist.

3. Submit yourself to God. 2 Corinthians 10:6

“And having the readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is

fulfilled.”

Your own obedience must be fulfilled before you can have authority to deal with

the enemy. The enemy will not yield any ground if he has any legal hold over any

area of your life. If you are living in secret sin, the enemy will contend that area with

you and he will not give up easily. Take a fast to cleanse, purge and empower

youself.

4. Ask for Discernment.

When you have submitted yourself to God, you go to the next step of asking for

accurate discernment. Ask God to really show you, maybe by dream or by

revelation, where those attacks are coming from.

5. Ask for Forgiveness – stand in the gap.

As a priest of the Most High God, ask forgiveness for the sin committed to allow

this attack against you/the Church, family, marriage etc.

6. Resist the Enemy.

After you have received discernment either by prayer or by revelation through

dreams, visions, prophecy, or by the Spirit to your spirit, you now go ahead to resist

the enemy

7. Pray Prophetically and Aggressively.

You can now begin to do prophetic praying, prophesying against the altars. Use

the Word of God to prophesy against the altars. Go to the Book of Ezekiel chapters

9 and 11, you will see examples of how Ezekiel prophesied against satanic altars.

8. Pray for the Salvation of the Priests at the Altar.

Stand in the gap for these agents of Satan as they are so deceived. FORGIVENESS

is very important. You need to separate the persons involved from the evil spirits.

9. Withdraw your Name.

When you have done all these things, then go ahead to withdraw your name,

emblem and image from any altar.

10. Possess your Possession.

When you have done the above, go ahead and possess your promised land in the

Name of Jesus. You must recover all lost ground in the Name of Jesus. Take back

what the devil has stolen from you in Jesus Name.

11. Give Praises to God.

Begin to praise the Lord, rejoice in the Lord and walk in your victory. When you ave

done this repeatedly, particularly at midnight when evil people normally work at the

altar, you will begin to sense victory and of course, all the devil has stolen will begin

to get restored unto you. You must possess your promised land for God has called

you into an inheritance of blessings.

CHAPTER FOUR

4.0 THE ALTAR OF GOD

There is no way anyone can serve God successfully without an efficient prayer altar.

We learn from the Bible that the Godly men of old accorded the altar its rightful

place in their lives. So, every time they wanted to know more of God, or they

wanted to meet with Him, they went ahead and raised altars with which they

connected themselves with the throne of God. God is calling out to men and women

today, to the Church, and to nations to raise altars unto Him -meaningful, heart-to-

heart altars, because the altar generates anointing. The altar generates the grace of

God. The altar brings about the favour of the Lord upon men, women, the Church

and upon nations. Whenever God wants to work out deliverance, He would require

men to build altars.

Some of the ALTARS outlined.

1. Noah’s Altar

“And Noah built an alter unto the LORD, and took of every clean beast, and

every clean fowl, and offered burnt offering on the altar. And the LORD

smelled a sweet savour and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse

the ground any more for man’s sake, for the imagination of man’s heart is evil

from his youth neither will I again smite any more every living, as I have done”

Gen8:20

God smelled a sweet savour which ministered to Him and touched His Heart. He

then gave blessings and favour to Noah and to generations of mankind through the

ministry of the altar.

2. Israel’s National Altar

“They brought before the Tent of Meeting what Moses commanded; all the

congregation drew near and stood before the Lord. And Moses said, This is the

thing which the Lord commanded you to do, and the glory of the Lord will

appear to you. And Moses said to Aaron, Draw near to the altar and offer your

sin offering and your burnt offering and make atonement for yourself and for

the people; and offer the offering of the people and make atonement for them,

as the Lord commanded. So Aaron drew near to the altar and killed the calf of

the sin offering, which was designated for himself”. Lev 9: 5-9

3. The Altar of David

“Then the angel of the Lord commanded Gad to say to David that David should

go up and set up an altar to the Lord in the threshing floor of Ornan the

Jebusite. And David built there an altar to the Lord and offered burnt offerings

and peace offerings and called upon the Lord; and He answered him by fire

from heaven upon the altar of burnt offering. Then the Lord commanded the

angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath.” 1 Chron 21: 18, 26-27

Anytime God wanted to deal with mankind, to bless, forgive, heal, or set free, an

altar was usually raised to enhance this. In the above scripture, pestilence and

tribulation had been in the land and thousands of men and women were already dead

or dying. To solve the problem, God commanded David through the prophet Gad to

raise up an altar.

4. The Altar of Solomon.

“And Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the

assembly of Israel and spread forth his hands.” 2Chron 6:12

Solomon had erected this very big brazen altar and thousands of animals had been

sacrificed upon it as peace and burnt offerings.

5. The Altar of Elijah

“Then Elijah said to all the people, come near to me. And all the people came

near him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that had been broken down.

Then Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the

sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord came, saying, Israel shall be your

name. And with the stones Elijah built an altar in the name of the Lord. He

made a trench about the altar as great as would contain two measures of seed.”

1 Kings 18: 30-32

After he had built the altar, Elijah then had the confidence to ask God for fire. While

awaiting the fire, he put the sacrificial animals upon the altar.

4.1 FEATURES OF GOD’S ALTAR

Altars are a memorial to the place where God meets us

Altars represent the occasion and place where we have had a personal encounter

with God. We may not always be able to make a physical altar, but there can be one

established in our hearts. When we celebrate communion, we are celebrating the

grandest altar of all--the Cross of Calvary upon which the Son of God was laid forth

as the sacrifice: To reconcile all humankind to God; and to make possible the

infusion of our lives with meaning, the forgiveness of all sins and the promise of

eternal life. Altars appear throughout the Bible in many different forms. They are:

A place of encounter : The Lord met Jacob in a crisis and the next day he built an

altar at that place (Genesis 28).

A place of forgiveness: The brazen altar of the tabernacle sacrifice was offered as

an advance testimony that there would be a once-for-all sacrifice in God’s Son.

A place of worship: The most common altar built by people to acknowledge their

praise to God was the altar of incense, the holy place where priests would offer

worship to the Lord on behalf of the people and themselves.

A place of covenant: An altar was built where the covenant was made between the

Lord and Abraham, and the land was sealed as a timeless promise to Abraham and

his offspring (Genesis 15).

A place of intercession: The prophet Joel called for intercession by leaders* on

behalf of the people and their devastated economy. (*If you know Jesus, you’re a

leader!) God has a place of “altaring” for us

4.2 MINISTERS AT THE ALTAR

Aaron was the first who was solemnly set apart to this office (Ex. 29:7; 30:23; Lev.

8:12). He wore a peculiar dress, which on his death passed to his successor in office

(Ex. 29:29-30). Besides those garments which he wore in common with all priests,

there were four that were peculiar to himself as high priest:

1. The “robe” of the ephod, all of blue, of “woven work,” worn immediately under

the ephod. It was without seam or sleeves. The hem or skirt was ornamented with

pomegranates and golden bells, seventy-two of each in alternate order. The

sounding of the bells intimated to the people in the outer court the time when the

high priest entered into the holy place to burn incense before the Lord (Ex. 28).

2. The “ephod” consisted of two parts, one of which covered the back and the other

the breast, which were united by the “curious girdle.” It was made of fine twined

linen, and ornamented with gold and purple. Each of the shoulder-straps was

adorned with a precious stone, on which the names of the twelve tribes were

engraved. This was the high priest's distinctive vestment (1 Sam. 2:28; 14:3;

21:9; 23:6, 9; 30:7).

3. The “breastplate of judgment” (Ex. 28:6-12, 25-28; 39:2-7) of “cunning work.” It

was a piece of cloth doubled, of one span square. It bore twelve precious stones,

set in four rows of three in a row, which constituted the Urim and Thummim

(q.v.). These stones had the names of the twelve tribes engraved on them. When

the high priest, clothed with the ephod and the breastplate, inquired of the Lord.

4. The “mitre,” or upper turban, a twisted band of eight yards of fine linen coiled

into a cap, with a gold plate in front, engraved with “Holiness to the Lord,”

fastened to it by a ribbon of blue.

5. To the high priest alone it was permitted to enter the holy of holies, which he did

only once a year, on the great Day of Atonement, for “the way into the holiest of all

was not yet made manifest” (Hebrews 9; 10). Wearing his gorgeous priestly

vestments, he entered the temple before all the people, and then, laying them aside

and assuming only his linen garments in secret, he entered the Holy of Holies alone,

and made expiation, sprinkling the blood of the sin offering on the mercy seat, and

offering up incense.

Aaron was the first anointed priest. His descendants, “the house of Aaron,”

constituted the priesthood in general. In the time of David, they were very numerous

(1 Chr. 12:27). The other branches of the tribe of Levi held subordinate positions in

connection with the sacred office.

Aaron was a type of Christ in his official character as the high priest. His priesthood

was a “shadow of heavenly things,” and was intended to lead the people of Israel to

look forward to the time when “another priest” would arise “after the order of

Melchizedek” (Hebrews 6:20).

4.2.1 PRESENT DAY MINISTERS

A Minister for the purpose of this discussion is one called by God specific

assignment in His vineyard or ministry. Hence the word ministerial speaks of

disposition or duty at the altar of God.

The book of first Timothy chapter three gives the ethics and coded of conduct of a

person desiring the office of a minister.

4.2.2 QUALIFICATION OF A MINISTER

A. Must be genuinely born again Jn.3:3,5,7

B. Must be baptized with the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongue for

self and church edification (1Cor.14:4,5,18-19)

C. Must have a prayer altar which is divided into three:

i. Personal altar

ii. Couples altar

iii. Family altar

D. HE must make the word of God is sole standard and not any human (2Cor. 2:15)

E. Must operate in the gift of the Holy Spirit (Eph.5:18)

F. Must be discipline, He must be a husband of one wife or wife of one husband

4.2.3 MINISTERIAL ETHICS

What is Ethics? ETHICS - having to do with right and wrong. Good behavior and

conduct. eth´ics , n. 1. A system of moral principles. 2. The branch of philosophy

dealing with right and wrong and the morality of motives and ends.

. The Basis of Ethics: Christian ethics is based on the knowledge of God. Without

the love of God, true ethical behavior is impossible. Ethical behavior cannot be

imposed (forced) on us. It must come from within

1. The starting point for ministerial ethics is found in being BORN AGAIN.

2. Respect the ministries (and pulpits) of others.

3. Stay out of the internal affairs of other churches.

4. Never perceive another minister as a threat to one’s ministry.

4.3 ALTAR IN HEAVEN

“And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the ALTAR the souls of

them that were slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they

held”: Rev.6:9

The above scripture make it categorically clear that there is an ALTAR in Heaven.

The Old Testament in ALTAR in the tabernacle, priests, holy of holies and

mercyseat were all a shadow (or replica) the ALTAR of the Tabernacle in Heaven.

“Who serve unto the EXAMPLE AND SHADOW OF HEAVENLY THINGS,

Jesus Christ is the HIGH PRIEST to this ALTAR “For he testifieth, Thou art a

priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec”. Heb.7:17

“For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the

figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now TO APPEAR IN THE PRESENCE

OF GOD FOR US” (Hebrews 9:24). Jesus had to appear before God the Father with

the shed blood. This is why He told Mary not to touch Him when He arose from the

dead. “Jesus saith unto her, TOUCH ME NOT; FOR I AM NOT Y ET

ASCENDED TO MY FATHER: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I

ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God” (John

20:17).

If Mary had touched Jesus, the blood sacrifice would have been tainted with

corruption. Jesus was heading towards heaven with the blood which needed to be

applied to the mercy seat in Heaven. “Now of the things which we have spoken

this is the sum: We have such an HIGH PRIEST, who is set on the right hand of

the throne of the Majesty in the heavens” (Hebrews 8:1). Jesus is our High Priest!

“Seeing then that we have a great HIGH PRIEST that is passed into the heavens,

JESUS THE SON OF GOD…” (Hebrews 4:14). Jesus’ tabernacle is in Heaven, not

on earth, “A minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord

pitched, and not man” (Hebrews 8:2).

When Christ came as high priest of the good things that are already here, he went

through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say,

not a part of this creation. (12) He did not enter by means of the blood of goats

andcalves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having

obtained eternal redemption.

4.4 IMPORTANCE ALTARS

We must have an altar for our own benefit. It is impossible to live for God with a

carnal mind. The carnal mind is the enemy of God and is not willing to be subjected

to the law of God...indeed, it cannot be! To be spiritually minded, one must

continually stir up the gift of God that is within him.

We must build an altar for the benefit of our children. As I have previously

mentioned, my parents provided exemplary teaching on altar building through their

lives. How many nights did I hear my father pray? How many mornings have I

awakened to hear the sounds of my mother's prayers

We must build an altar for the benefit of the lost. There are those whom we all

love who do not have an altar. They have either never built an altar, or they have

allowed their altars to fall into disrepair. They have left the house of the Lord and are

living in sin. We must build an altar for those will not build one for themselves.

The Word says, " I sought for a man among them who would make up the hedge

and stand in the gap, and I found none." We must have an altar of intercession

in our lives for the benefit of the lost!

CHAPTER FIVE

5.0 SUMMARY OF FINDING

Altars are a memorial to the place where God meets us

Altars represent the occasion and place where we have had a personal encounter

with God. We may not always be able to make a physical altar, but there can be one

established in our hearts.

Conditions for the Altar

1. It must make contact with God. God will always respond in one way or

another.

2. It must move God to take action. Blessing upon mankind, direction, judgment

against our enemy, etc.

3. It must impact the society or community surrounding it. The altar must bring a

spiritual covering – peace, joy, progress, liberty, righteousness, and Godly fear.

4. It must succeed in connecting men with God. Unsaved people will suddenly

begin to long and cry after God.

The Law of The Altar.

Lev 6 : 12-13 “ And the fire upon the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall

not be allowed to go out. The priest shall burn wood on it every morning and lay

the burnt offering in order upon it and he shall burn on it the fat of the peace

offerings. The fire shall be burning continually upon the altar; it shall not go

out.”

IT SHALL NEVER GO OUT!!

FOUR KINDS OF ALTARS.

1. Our heart is a type of altar.

2. Your room or wherever you pray and have a regular encounter with God is

another form of altar.

3. The family altar –where the family gathers together for prayer, eg, weekly

shabbat, daily prayer times, etc.

4. Your Church is another altar.

5. Conferences where there are prayer rooms become citywide/

national/international altars.

5.1 CONCLUSION

A place of worship –The most common altar built by people to acknowledge their

praise to God was the altar of incense, the holy place where priests would offer

worship to the Lord on behalf of the people and themselves.

A place of covenant – An altar was built where the covenant was made between the

Lord and Abraham, and the land was sealed as a timeless promise to Abraham and

his offspring (Genesis 15).

A place of intercession – The prophet Joel called for intercession by leaders* on

behalf of the people and their devastated economy. (*If you know Jesus, you’re a

leader!)

God has a place of “altaring” for us

5.3 RECOMMENDATION

The aftermath of fire is GLORY! Unfortunately, people are expecting the glory of

God in the Church today without altars.

THE FIRE FALLS UPON THE ALTAR!!

THE FIRE COMES BEFORE THE GLORY!

WITHOUT AN ALTAR, THERE WILL BE NOWHERE FOR THE FIR E TO

FALL!
