Who takes the PSAT?
• Across the nation, test-takers are college bound juniors and sophomores
• FWISD pays for ALL juniors and sophomores to take the test
• Paschal pays for ALL freshmen to take the test as well
• So, for comparison purposes, we are showing the averages of Paschal’s college-bound students as we compare their scores to the national averages
5

Scoring Format for the PSAT
• All students will receive three two-digit scores for their PSAT Reading, Writing, and Math
• The range is from 8 to 38
• The Selection Index is then computed by adding the three scores together and doubling the sum
• Example: R – 18, W – 20, M – 24
• 18 +20 + 24 = 62 x 2 = 124

Scoring Format for the PSAT Part 2
• College Board also provides a score result to be used as a comparison to the SAT, which is the college entry exam
• This format has two scores, 3 digit numbers, one Verbal and one math
• Each section is worth 760
• 1520 is the highest score
11
12
Example for the Verbal:
Add the two scores and multiply by 10
18 + 20 = 38 x 10 = 380
Example for Math:
Double the score and multiply by 10
24 +24 = 48 x 10 = 480
