It is with great pleasure to to invite you to participate in the 9th European Multidisciplinary Colorectal Cancer Congress 2019!

The European Multidisciplinary Colorectal Cancer Congress (EMCCC) is the European conference that truly provides a plat-form for in-depth multidisciplinary interaction among the various research areas involved. The Dutch Colorectal Cancer Group (DCCG) has taken the initiative for the EMCCC since 2001. The conference in 2019 builds upon eight previous successful multidisciplinary conferences on colorectal cancer which were held in the Netherlands, Germany and France. The EMCCC offers an intimate scientific/educational environment for more than 700 participants.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common types of malignancies and much progress has been made in recent years in un-derstanding the biology and treatment of this disease. These developments encompass almost the full research area including genetics, biology, pathology/prognostic markers, surgery, screening, systemic treatment, radiotherapy, and imaging. This implies that both pre-clinical and clinical research is becoming much more multidisciplinary oriented.

The conference will have separate workshops on surgery, medical oncology, radiotherapy, pathology, imaging, gastroen-terology, and genetics, but all other sessions are plenary in order to have optimal interaction between all disciplines. The format of the conference consists of workshops, keynote lecture, controversy sessions, satellite symposia, and oral and poster presentations on prevention and screening, diagnosis and follow-up, translational research, multidisciplinary management, genetics, evaluation of treatment, and updates on randomized CRC trials.

The meeting will be hosted in the Lisbon Congress Center, Lisboa, Portugal from 9 March until 11 March 2019.

EMCCC 2019 will be held in the Lisboa Congress Center (LCC) (www.lisboacc.pt), located only a few minutes from the city center located near the Tagus river and near the historic buildings of Belém quarter. Several hotels are situated on walking distance of the congress center. Lisbon has an excellent public transport system with stops in front of the congress center. TIMINGThe congress will start on Saturday 9 March 2019 with registration, a satellite symposia, opening ceremony and welcome reception. On Sunday 10 and Monday 11 March, plenary sessions, satellite symposia, workshops and poster sessions will take place in combination with sessions focused on gastroenterlogists. 3 time slots are available for sponsored satellite symposia (please see the programme at the glance for exact timing – sessions printed in bold). The congress will end on Monday 11 March. At the end of the day in order give the delegates to fly home the same evening to most European destinations.
