Connect Your VPN

1. If you are off-campus, make sure you are connected to the GlobalProtect VPN.

Download and Run the Installer

2. Go to http://jabber.wvu-ad.wvu.edu/ and click “Windows(.msi)”

3. If you are prompted with a warning from Sophos Web Protection, click “Proceed.” This will download a file to your computer.

4. Once the file is finished downloading, run it. Below are instructions on how to download and run the file in various web browsers.

Google Chrome Instructions

A box with the name of the file will pop up in the bottom left corner of the window. Click the box to run the file. Go on to Step 5.

Mozilla Firefox Instructions A box will pop up in the middle of your screen. Click “Save File.”

This will cause the download symbol in the top right corner of the window to turn blue. click the symbol.

Click on the file you just downloaded.

If a box warns you about the file, click “Ok”. Go on to Step 5.

Microsoft Edge Instructions A box with the name of the file will pop up in the bottom left corner of the window. Click the box to run the file.

Edge may warn you it could harm your device. Click the three dots and click “Keep.”

Edge may then warn you again. Click the downward arrow beside “Show More” and click “Keep anyway.”

Click “Show in folder” under the file’s name. This will open File Explorer.

Microsoft Edge Instructions cont. Double-click the file in File Explorer to run the file. Go on to Step 5.

Internet Explorer Instructions Internet explorer will often refuse to download the file complaining that its security signature is invalid or corrupt. Use a different web browser to download the file.

Install the Jabber Client

5. After running the file, Windows Defender may warn you about the file. This is normal. Click “More Info.” Then click “Run anyway.”

6. Click “Accept and Install.”

7. A message will pop up and dim your screen

asking if you want to let the program make changes to your computer. Answer “Yes” to this message.

8. Click “Finish.”

9. Your Windows Jabber Client is now installed and ready to use.
