KKS designation system
Introduction
This document describes the designation system used by Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB (SIT) for steam turbine deliveries. The system is based on the Kraftwerk-Kennzeichen-System (KKS) and is used for identifying plants, sections of plants and equipment in a clear manner according to their function.
The KKS includes three identification types, namely process related identification (function), point of installation identification and location identification. The designation system used does however only use the process related identification of the KKS.
Process related identification
The process related identification is built up from four parts, reading from left to right, narrows in the described component, i.e. top down approach. The four parts are:
0. Total plant. This part is for example used to define the steam turbine unit if more than one steam turbine is installed at the power station.
1. System Code. This second part classifies the system and what section of the system is meant.
2. Equipment unit code. This part classifies type of equipment unit, apparatus, control or instrumentation equipment. If more than one equipment unit exists they are numbered.
3. Component code. This last part of the name classifies the type of component, signal or signal application. If more than one component exists they are numbered.
For example the number “MAV21AP005-M01” should be interpreted as:
MAV 21 stands for lubricant supply system, where 21 represents one of two redundant oil supply sections.
AP005 stands for one lube oil pump unit, where 005 is the numbering of the pump unit.
The hyphen (-) in front of the M01 means that the component is electrically connected, used e.g. for solenoid valves, heaters etc. Manually operated valves, filters etc. are without “-” sign.
M01 stands for motor and 01 is the numbering of the motor.

KKS identification for measuring circuits Measuring circuit symbol The connection of the measuring circuits to the main is shown on the system diagram (P&I) in a consistent and simplified manner regardless of the type of measuring circuit or sensor. The symbol represents a complete measuring circuit with the associated instrument, valves and pipes.
The symbol has different appearances depending on the reading place.
Identifications in the measuring symbol The lower part of the measuring circuit symbol specifies the system code of the main and the following KKS unit identification.
