Thanks to everyone for a great job during the Tornado Drill! Thank you to Palm Beach Fire Rescue station 58 for allowing our students to tour the trucks and station! Experiences like this make our academy an exciting place to learn.

As a reminder, please make note of our school-wide expectations below.

(Remember that we want ALL students to be ON TIME to class. Two tardy violations in week generate a Saturday detention. Multiple infractions lead to progressive discipline.) Week at a Glance (Sept.8th-Sept. 15th)

West Boca High School is a closed campus for lunch. Students are not permitted to leave campus to go out for lunch. The dates for the student blood drives this year are: Oct. 31, 2019 Jan. 29, 2020 Apr. 14, 2020 Currently there aren't any Parent Drives scheduled. West Boca Community High School has updated the procedure for dropping off materials for students and for students who need to leave campus during the school day. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas legislation requires schools to increase security and have mandated increased safety drills for the upcoming school year. To help with restricting the flow of access to campus to increase security, we will be following these procedures. 1. Dropping off Material/Items for a Student After 8:00am All materials that need to be dropped off for a student after 8:00 am will be collected at the main gate by the school personnel. Please make sure the item can be visible for the school personnel to check. Clearly mark the student's name on the item(s) being dropped off. The items will be placed in a container and delivered to student service for the student to pick up. Please text the student that you dropped the item off and let them know it will be in student services. After dropping off the item, you will be directed around the front barricades to the exit side to depart. 2. Students Leaving Campus. Parents will not come on campus to sign a student out of school. There are 2 ways to sign a student out of school:

1. Call student service at 561-672-2029 and give the information to the secretary. They will get a pass to the student. It is advised that you call ahead so you do not have to wait. 2. Send a note to school with the student. The student will bring the note to Student Service before

______________ GUIDANCE______________ AP and AICE Information:

This year CollegeBoard has revamped its Advanced Placement (AP) process. As a result, AP coordinators must order exams earlier than ever before. In the past, exams were ordered in March. Now they are ordered at the end of first quarter . Withdrawals from an AP course after October 18th will result in an obligation of $40 per withdrawn AP course on the student's account.

Also, students with a 504 plan or IEP have the option to take their AICE and AP exams with testing accommodations. This process is different than the process used for FSA or EOC and requires an application through College Board or Cambridge. For students to utilize testing accommodations on AICE exams, an application of need with specific documentation must be submitted and approved by Cambridge. If you have an IEP, 504 plan or use any school based accommodations, then you are not automatically qualified to use test accommodations on AICE and AP exams. Therefore all students seeking to use accommodations on their exams must see Ms. Lombardi (IEP) or Ms. Wolfe (504) by the start of second quarter to begin the process.

Students who are taking an AP course on FLVS must provide us with the “2019-20 Exam only join code request form” by October 4, 2019. Students can get the form from FLVS and they must return it to Jennifer Napuli in guidance in order to register for the exam. AICE November Series Retakes Students who did not pass one of their Cambridge AICE exams from the June Series, have the opportunity to retake the exam in the November Series. This is important for students who are taking to earn an AICE diploma. The retake exams will be offered in October and early November. Students interested in retaking an exam must complete the registration form and pay 99.81 per exam except Global Perspectives which is 161.39. Additional fees may apply for students seeking to earn the AICE Diploma through retakes. For additional information please contact Ms. Sawyer at [email protected] or a school counselor. Registration forms can be picked up from AICE teachers or school counselors. Remember AICE Diploma = Bright Futures!!! ACT Information:

Seniors who still need a concordant score in reading or math for graduation will be given the opportunity to take the ACT test during school hours. Guidance counselors will be contacting the individual students who need to take the test. The test dates are as follows: October 1st and 3rd for students who need the reading concordant score. October 2nd for students who need the math concordant score. If students need both reading and math scores, they will test all three days. PSAT Information:

The school-day PSAT for all 9th and 10th graders will be Wednesday, October 16th. If an 11th grader would like to take the PSAT test, tickets will be available for sale in guidance in the upcoming weeks. Information regarding ticket sales will be forthcoming in future principal updates.

All 10th graders will receive a student guide complete with a practice test through their English teachers. If the student loses that guide, an online copy can be found at the following link: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/pdf/psat-nmsqt-student-guide.pdf Hard copy books are not available for 9th graders but can be accessed online at the following link: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/pdf/psat-8-9-student-guide.pdf School Counselor Request
